EDDM Retail – A new product
 There are some key differences to note
between EDDM and EDDM Retail.
A. EDDM requires permits.
B. EDDM Retail improves the customer
experience for small and midsized businesses
by eliminating required fees and permits but
does require a special INDICIA. (slide 6)

Supported Mail
Classes
• Standard Mail Flats Only
• Mailing destined for local delivery area only, must be dropped at
Destination Delivery Unit (DDU). Maximum weight per piece is
3.3 ounces
Mailpiece
Limitations
• Minimum 200, maximum 5000 pieces per site per day.
• Must use new indicia provided by USPS
• Mail must be bundled, 50 pieces per bundle

What is a flat?
1- Mail piece must be longer than 11.5 inches but not greater than 15 inches – or
2- Mail piece must be higher than 6.25 inches but not higher than 12 inches - or
3- Mail piece must be thicker than 1/4 inch but not thicker than 3/4 inches - or
4- Minimum thickness for a flat is .009 (Card stock)

Some other key points:
 Mail Service Providers can enter EDDM Retail at
retail for their customers
 5,000 piece per day per unit restriction is per
customer. If the MSP has multiple customers, MSP
can enter 5,000 pieces per customer, but that will
require separate mailing statements and full
payment for each mailing
 EDDM Retail is not eligible for credit towards
incentive programs such as the Saturation Mail
Incentive program—incentive program mail must
be deposited at the BMEU (EDDM)

How customers can use
EDDM Retail
 Target a location without an address list
 Send out local mailing to specific delivery routes, include
coupons to drive traffic to local stores or events, etc.
 Prospect for new customers at reduced preparation
costs from regular Standard Mail

 Ads can be produced quickly
 The larger than average sized ad stands out in the mailbox
 Once in a resident’s hands, their focus is solely on the logo,
message and offer
 Ad comes in with the important correspondence and stays in
the household until removed
 Can be passed along to all household residents or friends

EDDM Retail
Pieces Required
 Mailer prepares enough pieces to provide complete
distribution for each carrier route chosen, either every
 active residential delivery (household residence) or
 active delivery (residential and business) in accordance
with the process described in the revised DMM 509.1.1,
Delivery Statistics File.
 Mailer can choose to mail to only one carrier route,
or as many as desired.

Retail Mailing Statement
PS Form 3587-Ret
Must be used by all retail customers who are dropping mail
at a delivery office.
If a Mail Service Provider has multiple customers,
must have separate mailing statements for each of their
customers, and must pay for each mailing separately

Compliance with “Do Not Deliver” Requests
Listed on Facing Slips
We are asking all mailers to observe
the wishes of their customers for
Do Not Deliver requests,
by providing that address to the USPS
via the facing slip. The carrier will
then note the address and not deliver
the identified mail piece to that customer

Service Standards
 Delivery units will be expected to handle each
mailing according to the delivery standards
established for the class of mail they are;
according to current service standards and as
directed by local management, consistent
with national policy.
 No In-home delivery dates available

Mailer goes to www.usps.com/everydoordirectmail to obtain more
information and to register.

If all Decision Tree answers are “Yes” they will be taken to EDDM Retail
page to begin the registration process

Customer taken to Business Customer Gateway registration screen when
hits Program Registration link
