Sponsorship Opportunities - Braden`s Hope for Childhood Cancer
September 28, 2013 With Braden’s Hope, and a lot of help from our friends, we are striving for the day that no child or family will ever have to hear the words “no known cure” ever again. Every child battling against cancer deserves a chance to fight and win. Won’t you join us in our pledge? Together, we can be the change for our children. At Braden's Hope For Childhood Cancer, we believe in Heroes Opening People's Eyes HOPE...TAKE THAT cANCER! Dear Friends, Braden’s Hope For Childhood Cancer is a Kansas City based 501(c)(3) that was started after our son, Braden Hofen, was diagnosed with a relapse of a childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. Braden was initially diagnosed with Stage IV disease in December of 2007 and was given a 30% chance of survival for five years. In 2009, after almost a year and a half of treatments, we thought Braden was in a remission when his cancer returned. Relapsing Neuroblastoma carries with it the words, no known cure. We were absolutely devastated. About four months after Braden’s relapse, I was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer. The amount of information the doctors were able to tell me about my disease and the number of treatments available to me for my disease were in stark contrast to the small amount of information known about Neuroblastoma and the prognosis of “no known cure” for our son. We began researching to find out why things were so different for our son and we learned: Childhood Cancer is the #1 killer by disease among children. More children die from childhood cancer per year than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and pediatric aids COMBINED. The National Cancer Institute’s budget is about $4.6 billion. Breast cancer receives about 12% of that funding, prostate cancer receives about 7% but ALL childhood cancers COMBINED receive less than 3.5%! Only one new drug has been approved for use in treating childhood cancer since 1980...in comparison about 50 drugs were developed for adult cancers. 80% of the time when a child is diagnosed with cancer, it has already metastasized to other areas of the body making it stage 3 or 4 and much more difficult to treat. This is only true 20% of the time with adults. Our family knew that we had to do something to make a difference for children fighting cancer and that is why this foundation was created. Our mission is to raise awareness and funds for research and treatments of childhood cancer. In only 18 months, we raised over $260,000 thanks to many kind and generous people and businesses! We are thrilled to be able to award our first grant in the amount of $100,000 on April 1, 2013 to one of five institutions we are working with across the United States. Those hospitals are the top four ranked children’s cancer hospitals in the nation, #1 The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, #2 The Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, #3 Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, #4 Texas Children’s Hospital, and in addition Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City who is also conducting innovative research. Our $100,000 grants will help be used to find the activators of childhood cancer as well as targeted treatments to shut those activators down. It is the hope of these fine institutions that not only will the work in these areas help treat childhood cancers, but PREVENT adult cancers! In addition, our grant funds will help directly with research costs and will also be seen as “seed money” by the National Institute of Health (NIH) for studies making it more likely the NIH would be willing to contribute funds to the studies as well. We hope you will consider a sponsorship for our HOPE Gala so we can award our second grant in the immediate future! If you should have extra seats at your tables, you can donate those to some of our most special hero families or pediatric cancer nurses that we wish to honor that night. We would love to invite these special friends to attend the event to honor and thank them for their work and support. Thank you for your consideration. With your sponsorship, you will bring HOPE to our children. You will bring the word, “FUTURE” into their vocabulary which is the greatest gift our families could ever dream of having. Sincerely, Deliece Hofen President, Braden’s Hope For Childhood Cancer Imagine for a moment your family hearing the words “no known cure” concerning your child ~ MONEY for GRANTS to fund RESEARCH is our focus so that they never have to. Who Are We? Braden’s Hope For Childhood Cancer is a 501(c(3) foundation that was formed as a direct result of Braden Hofen’s personal battle with Neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer. We are an innovative and active foundation and with every success we will shout, “HOPE…TAKE THAT cANCER!” until the whole world hears the voices of the children who need to know we care and are serious about bringing them hope for a future! Why Do We Need Your Involvement? We need sponsorship donors who help our children with cancer by donating funds to raise awareness and fund $100,000 research grants to find the activators of childhood cancer and/or targeted treatments to shut those activators down. With your help, we can be a game-changing force to provide HOPE to our children and families who are battling these diseases every day. The institutions and hospitals believe that if we can find the activators of childhood cancer and then corresponding targeting treatments to shut those activators down, we not only effectively treat our children with cancer and bring them hope of a future, we may also prevent adult cancers! What Is Our Plan: Our foundation provides educational materials, and holds public events to create awareness about childhood cancers and funding opportunities for researchers working toward cures for children with cancer. Our $100,000 grants not only contribute a substantial amount of money for researchers to directly use, but they serve an indirect purpose as well. Because the grants are given in such a large amount, the National Institute of Health (NIH) sees those grants as “seed money” making it more likely that they will contribute additional dollars to the grant. AWARENESS: 80% of the 46 children diagnosed every school day will have a cancer that is already at Stage III or Stage IV compared to only 20% of adults being at those stages at their diagnoses. Earlier diagnosis is critical because treatments can be more successful. Currently, many medical professionals do not have the tools they nee to challenge this issue. We are putting childhood cancers on the radar, since our formal inception in January of 2011, WE HAVE… Raised: After only 18 months of being in existence, we have raised over $260,000 and our first grant of $100,000 will be awarded on April 1, 2013 Attracted: several thousand followers on social networking sites that allow us to educate, inform, and market our sponsors to online markets. Been Featured: in dozens of news stories on all four Kansas City news stations. In addition, some of those stories have been picked up by news affiliates across the USA and even into Canada and Mexico. We Have Produced: Four successful walk/run events attracting over 3,000 families “A Year of HOPE” calendars partnering with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, Sporting KC. The Kansas City Royals will be featured in 2014 and Sporting KC will also do a 2014 calendar again. Hope Heroes section of our website that puts children’s stories and faces with numbers. www.BradensHope.org Will celebrate our SECOND annual Hope Gala on September 28, 2013 Funding? Why Not Allow Major Cancer Organizations To Handle It? While large cancer organizations such as The American Cancer Society (ACS), do MUCH for MANY, sadly only about ¾ of a penny of each dollar raised by the ACS goes to childhood cancer research! The National Institute of Health’s budget is about $4.6 billion. Breast cancer receives about 1% of that funding, Prostate cancer about 7% but ALL CHILDHOOD CANCERS COMBINED receive less than 3.5% of those funds. Only ONE new drug has been approved for use to treat childhood cancer since the 1980’s compared to over FFITY drugs that were approved to treat adult cancers. Childhood cancers are different in their respective histology and pathology than their adult counterparts, yet the only drugs available to treat childhood cancer are those used for their adult counterparts. Imagine for a moment your family hearing the words “no known cure” concerning your child. MONEY for GRANTS to fund RESEARCH to help your child are needed now! With our help, we can insure no other families have to hear the words, “no known cure”.
