Dear Friends in Christ,
Happy Easter! The glorious time of rejoicing because of the Lord’s Resurrection continues every day until
Pentecost, May 15. I encourage you to daily remember that we are in this most sacred time of the year. Easter fills
our lives with Hope. The fifty days give us the strength that we need to conquer all of the issues that we face in life.
The followers of Jesus were filled with so much hope filled joy that they faced all obstacles set before them. The
Hope that Easter brings gives us the ability to live fearless lives because we know that the Lord is with us.
On Saturday, April 16, we celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a very
special day for our community. Bishop R. Daniel Conlon confirmed 141 members of
Immaculate Conception and celebrated their full initiation into the Catholic Church.
The Holy Spirit came abundantly upon them to share with each of them a strengthening
of the spiritual gifts. I pray that they will well use these gifts. I encourage you all to be
mindful of them as well. The gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding,
Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Pity and Wonder and Awe can have essential roles in
our lives. As we are aware of their presence with us we can use them to help others and to serve God well.

Good Shepherd Sunday: World Day of Prayer for Vocations
This Sunday celebrates Jesus as “the Good Shepherd.” When announcing this Jubilee Y ear of Mercy, Pope Francis
focused on Jesus’ “lost sheep” parable in Luke. “[Who] among you,” Jesus asks, “having a hundred sheep and losing one of
them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?” (Luke 15:4). A reasonable
answer? “No responsible shepherd who wants to keep the job!” Yet Jesus considers one lost person supremely important and
suggests blaming the shepherd. The sheep didn’t “go astray,” the shepherd “lost” it. Thus, “when he does find it, he sets it on
his shoulders with great joy” (15:5). That tender image of Jesus adorns the simple cross Pope Francis has always worn, the
Good Shepherd gently carrying the lost sheep home on his shoulders. During this Jubilee Y ear of Mercy, may we, who once
were lost ourselves but now are found, join Jesus in seeking, finding, and gently carrying home at least one precious lamb.

YEAR OF MERCY
PILGRIMAGE CHURCH HOURS AT IC
As part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Immaculate Conception parish is one of the
“Pilgrimage Churches” in the Diocese of Joliet. In celebration, we will open our IC
Church to pilgrims from the parish and around the diocese each Saturday from
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM beginning on Saturday February 13 through November
26, 2016. Our hope is that people will take advantage of the opportunity to visit the
church and pray. There is also the opportunity to obtain a plenary indulgence during
the Year of Mercy by visiting a Pilgrimage Church with the intention of acquiring the
indulgence, going to confession (before or after the visit), receiving Holy Communion,
making a profession of faith, praying for the Holy Father and for the intentions that he
bears in his heart for the good of the church and of the entire world. Please plan to
make a special visit with your family or friends during this Year of Mercy.
We will need volunteers during these hours each Saturday. If you are interested in spending time in prayer,
and being available to act as a host to welcome others who come to make a visit to our church, please contact

Immaculate Conception Updates/Renovations
In upcoming weeks, we will feature projects around the IC Campus which have been completed with funds from our
Operating Budget and from the Capital Campaign. This week we begin with the Marian Room, located in the Parish
Administrative Center. This project has been fully funded with funds from the operating budget for this fiscal year.
Renovation of Marian Room
The Marian Room has been totally renovated this spring. The renovation consisted of the following tasks:

Removed the red glass in the stained glass windows and replaced with clear water glass in order to add more natural
light to the room.
Removed the elevated platform by the curved wall to create more room and that the altar could be placed in closer
proximity to the wall.
Painted the entire room, including the ceiling, store rooms, kitchenette and washroom.
Installed new light fixtures that operate with LED bulbs. We will save over 70% in electric and also reduce the
frequency of bulb changes.
Reconfigured the cabinetry in the kitchenette and installed new countertops.
Installed new carpet and base throughout the room.
Installed new hardware on the entry doors and installed a new door on the storage closet by the elevator.

1st Eucharist children and their parents are reminded of the special Reconciliation Prayer Service scheduled for Monday
April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church in anticipation of the celebration of 1st Eucharist in May.
Come celebrate this beautiful sacrament of God’s mercy as we continue our preparation to receive Jesus in the
sacrament of 1st Eucharist.
Families are remind of the importance of attending these final Religious Education classes for this 2015-16 school term.
The remaining lessons provide important closure for the many topics covered during the year as well as establishing
some key ideas in preparing for next year’s class work.
The Kindergarten Family Liturgy is scheduled for next Sunday, April 24 at 9 a.m. All Kindergarten children and their
families are encouraged to come join us in prayer at this special Family Liturgy. We look forward to celebrating with all
our Kindergarten children and their families. Plan to attend!

ICCP ADVANCES TO STATE & NATIONAL LEVELS IN
ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS
ICCP broadened our participation in academic based
events when we competed in the Academic Challenge
created and sponsored by the World Youth in Science
and Engineering (WYSE) program. After advancing out
of the WSYE regional competition held at Oakton
Community College in February, our 13 member team
competed at the sectional competition at North Central
College on March 17, and we are proud to announce that
the team has advanced to the State Finals to be held at the
University of Illinois on Monday, April 11. ICGS
alumnus Maeve Gillette earned a third place in the
competition in the English section.
On March 3-5, 22 members of the ICCP Business Club
participated in the Business Professionals of America
(BPA) Illinois State Competition held at the Doubletree
Hotel in Oak Brook. ICCP is proud to announce that 6 of
these students have advanced to the BPA National
Leadership Conference to be held on May 5-8, 2016 in
Boston, Massachusetts.
ICGS alumni Matt DeWitte and Brendan O’Brien
advanced to Nationals as a part of the Computer
Animation team by earning a first place in their event.

GIFT COLLECTION
Once again, we are collecting selfcare packages for women who
visit the IC Food Pantry and the
People’s Resource Center.
Individual gift bags can include
items such as shampoo, conditioner, hand or body lotion, face soap, nail polish and
polish remover, shower/bath gel, cologne, cosmetics, gift
certificates, jewelry, socks, note cards and anything that
would make someone feel special. Items should be in a
gift bag and deposited in the marked bins in the narthex
the weekend of April 30/May 1. Thank you for helping to
make someone’s Mother’s Day a little more special.
Mass of the Angels, our annual
liturgy which remembers and honors
infants and children who have died
through miscarriage, stillbirth or
other causes will be held at
Immaculate Conception on Friday,
May 6 at 7:00 PM. A special
ceremony will take place for
individuals and family members to
commemorate the lives of their loved
ones.

Our most needed items this week are milk, eggs,
cereal (totally out), canned tuna and chicken,
pasta sauce (nearly out), canned fruit and vegetables,
coffee, body soap/wash, shampoo, laundry detergent
and dish soap. Any cleaning items (sponges, Lysol,
Clorox bleach, etc.) are always needed and appreciated.

Metropolitan Family Services In-Home Senior Respite
Program will offer a free screening of “Alive Inside”
on April 30, 2016 at 2:00PM in the Marian Room of the
Parish Center/ Rectory. “Alive Inside” is a documentary
offering proof that minds we think have “shut down” may
re-emerge with the power of music. This is a must-see
for family members caring for a person suffering
from dementia, stroke or traumatic brain injury.

Kitchen Prayers
We are in need of volunteers to prepare meals for those within our parish community
who need help with meal preparation for a short period of time. Family illness, death
or other unforeseen circumstances might necessitate some short-term help. If you are

This is a vital ministry to our parish family, but we need additional volunteers to ensure that it continues.

In-vitro Fertilization and Surrogate Motherhood: What the Church Teaches
Fr. Thomas Loya, Pastor of Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church and famous radio host, author and lecturer, will speak at
Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church, 14610 Will Cook Rd,. Homer Glen at 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 21st. Fr. Loya,
a recognized expert on St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body, will review and define what the Church teaches about in-vitro
fertilization and surrogate motherhood. Dr. Robert C. Lawler, eminent OB /GYN and expert on IVF issues will be co-presenter.
He is a well-known speaker and advocate who consistently promotes the sanctity of life.
The program is hosted by the Multi-Parish Knowledge and Prayer Series presented by the Respect Life Ministries of Our Lady of
the Woods, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Bernard’s, St. Michael and Annunciation Byzantine Catholic parishes.
