Meeting Minutes
Opening prayer at 11:45 am

Meeting began at 12:00 pm
First order of business was to elect a new Chairman. Josh Foley with NC DOT was chosen for
that position, unanimously approved by all in attendance.
Sherry Jones with Onslow Water & Sewer Authority agreed to continue her duties as Secretary.
NC 811 Updates
 Howard Corey showed a video with pictures taken at various NC 811 functions
throughout the year 2015.
 Total Tickets for 2015 – 1,536,803 – that’s an increase of 18.3% from 2014.
 Total Transmissions for 2015 – 7,693,822 – that’s an increase of 22.4% from 2014.
 Onslow County had 1,236 locate tickets for December
 Jones County had 68 locate tickets for December
 In December 2015, there were 324 damage events reported from throughout the state –
that amount is up over 29% from December 2014. Overall, damage reports for 2015 in
North Carolina increased every single month in 2015 when compared to the same month
in 2014.
 Remote Ticket Entry use and Update Lite totals continues to rise almost every month.
 Pipes Plus training can be conducted on site as well as online for your staff.

Newly elected Chairman Josh Foley reminded the group of the lunch sponsorship slots
still available for 2016.
**Utility Updates**
Wayne Whorton with NC DOT stated that there has been an increase of fiber optic cables being
damaged. He also stated that many contractors and sub-contractors are not burying cables and
pipe deep enough. Howard Corey commented that the main question asked from home owners is,
“how deep are the lines buried?” The response is, anywhere from a few inches to several inches
in depth.
Donnie Pierce with Sadale Utilities said that supply lines for off-site sewer are being hit on a
regular basis. Nobody gets contacted to locate those lines.
Eddie Caron with ONWASA stated that a 6” force main will be installed (at Kenwood
subdivision, and on Firetower Rd to connect to an existing line on Pony Farm Rd), as part of
Phase II of the Western Onslow Trunk Sewer project.
Chairman Josh Foley and Anthony Harris with ONWASA discussed road work projects on
Ridge Rd, Drummer Kellum at Hwy 17, and Halltown Rd at Hwy 17. Josh talked of future work
to straighten Rhodestown Rd.
Sherry Mora of PRG Consulting stated that she is a (3rd party) investigator, working for Time
Warner Cable. She wanted to remind utility contractors that she will be in the area investigating
damages and just wanted everyone to be aware of what she is doing.
Randall Chappell, investigator for Duke Energy, introduced himself and advised that he is also
working to help curb loss due to damages. He suggested that utility crews take pictures of their
locate marks before digging.
