What Is A Beka Academy?
A Beka Academy isn’t a recording of a stationary teacher lecturing to the
camera all day, and it’s not a program requiring your child to read lessons
on the screen or sit for hours watching lessons without participating.
It’s a flexible, complete homeschool distance-learning program for
kindergarten through grade 12 recorded in real classrooms with actual
students and their teachers.
Using proven A Beka Book textbooks, the skillful teachers on video
engage both the students in their classroom and students watching
through A Beka Academy streaming or DVD. Creative, effective teaching
methods produce quality instruction that means the homeschooling day
for many grades can be done by lunch.
It's a way to homeschool that families have trusted since 1985, and
now over 50,000 students are enrolled every year. A Beka Academy is
accredited by MSA CESS (Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools) and FACCS (Florida Association of
Christian Colleges and Schools).
I love how the video teachers incorporate the students
“ watching
into the class. I felt like I really had a seat right
there in the classroom! –Student, Georgia
”
How Does It Work?
Because your child is included in group assignments, activities, and
games, he feels like a part of his class. His active participation in each
lesson, getting to know the students in his class as the year goes on,
and learning through their questions and answers, helps him master
the material in every lesson. All subjects work together to strengthen his
understanding of each concept and build a strong academic foundation.
You won’t have the responsibility of taking hours to plan and teach, but
you'll still be involved with your child's education and know his progress
every step of the way. Video manuals keep you on track, and quizzes,
tests, and worksheets help you check his understanding. You'll have the
freedom to be your child's learning coach, helping him reach his best.

A Beka Academy teachers will help you guide your child to be a lifelong
learner by challenging him to develop thinking skills and share in the
excitement of learning.
Your child’s education shouldn’t be an experiment; that’s why your child

their academic potential. For over 40 years, students using A Beka Book
have gained the strong educational foundation that equips them with the
knowledge and critical thinking skills they need to succeed.

Values that Last
You know that academic success is just part of what your child needs
to succeed and make his mark in the world. With A Beka Academy,
you can trust that he’ll be well-grounded spiritually as well as prepared academically.
Protecting your child from the different
views that come his way every day can
feel overwhelming, but A Beka Academy
makes that job easier. Since every subject
is presented from a Christian worldview
by teachers who care about helping
you instill biblical values, your children
learn to filter what they hear and read
through the truths of God’s Word.

You’ll be able to do more every day because you'll spend less time
planning. Homeschooling with A Beka Academy isn’t just effective;
it’s flexible. You can easily homeschool more than one child at a time,
even when you're away from home.
After our first year of homeschooling via video streaming, we are

The lively academic program in K4 will grow your
child’s desire to learn! This enjoyable educational
foundation introduces phonics and develops early
reading skills through teaching kindergartners to
read one-and two-vowel word stories. He will be
excited to show what he can do as he learns to
trace and write letters and his name, as well as
recognize and count numbers to 100. A dedicated
skills time each day develops his visual perception,
listening skills, and motor skills. A daily Bible class
provides opportunity for your child to sing, learn
verses, pray, and gain age-appropriate knowledge and application through lessons from the
Old and New Testaments. Music, art, language
development, and poetry continue to develop
your child’s skills and get him ready for the fiveyear-old program.

Interesting and engaging lessons expand your
child’s natural curiosity and excitement for learning.
Songs, verses, prayer, and a walk through Genesis
and the life of Christ during Bible time instill biblical
values daily. Building upon an early foundation in
phonics, your child will learn to read one-and twovowel word stories, as well as stories with more
difficult phonics special sounds. Her reading comprehension develops as you hold her accountable
for what she reads with comprehension questions.
Eye-hand coordination develops through learning
to write individual letters, then consonant-vowel
blends, then sentences. Through a dedicated
daily numbers time, your child learns to count, recognize, and understand number concepts to 100.
Learning number combination families 1–10 will be
exciting! Social studies and science pique her curiosity to learn new things. Vocabulary, language,
and cognitive skills, as well as character and social
development, complete this popular kindergarten
program through language enrichment, music, art,
and skills development time.

GRADES 1– 3
Your child will gain a lifelong enthusiasm for
reading as he learns to read using the A Beka
phonics-first approach. You’ll see your child
master phonics and watch his reading comprehension skills grow as he reads delightful
stories with character-building themes. As
his reading and spelling skills improve, creative writing becomes a natural outflow as
he organizes thoughts into sentences and
applies his grammar knowledge in order to
communicate. Learning and practicing the
proper formation of letters and the correct
spacing between letters, words, and sen-
tences helps perfect writing skills for a good
overall appearance. Learning computation
skills, problem-solving skills, and how to apply
arithmetic concepts exercises his reasoning
and thinking abilities. In science, health, and
history and geography, he’ll learn about God’s
world and begin to appreciate it more as he
ventures into a biographical study of people
who made an impact on America. Most
importantly, studying lives of real people in
the Bible will help him learn how to respond
to situations in his own life. Art and music
round out the academic program.

grammar will deepen and practical skills
increase with a thorough review of capitalization, punctuation, and the eight parts of
speech. He'll learn how to read quickly for
information through challenging reading
selections emphasizing comprehension skills
and speed-reading activities. Creative writing and word studies encourage maintaining
valuable penmanship skills. There’s a focus

he studies fractions, decimals, proportions,
percents, and many other topics. A study

education offer a fascinating look at the
world and show how to take care of the body
God created. Through daily Bible lessons
your child will see how God can do mighty
acts when a person has faith in Him. Appreciation of fine arts will also grow through an
introduction to accomplished artists and art

Stimulating academic courses challenge and
grow your child throughout his high school
years as part of the well-rounded collegepreparatory course of study. Core academic
courses in English, mathematics, science, and
history meet standard graduation requirements
and provide him with outstanding preparation
for further studies. His study of grammar, great
literature, writing, and vocabulary usage in
English develops critical thinking ability and
leads to mastering effective communication
skills. He’ll apply previously mastered basic
math skills to higher levels of study in algebra,
geometry, and precalculus with trigonometry. Additional practical course options in
consumer and business mathematics teach
about taxes, balancing a budget, and other
useful information. History courses give an
in-depth look at people, cultures, and nations
in a geographical context for an overall picture
of the world. Your high school student will
also learn creation-based biology, chemistry,
and physics, with included labs that enhance
his understanding of scientific concepts and
provide thrilling virtual hands-on experience.
Bible courses covering Genesis, Revelation,
Life Management, and more, teach God’s truth,
continuing to give him a strong foundation that
will carry him through life. Elective selections
provide an avenue for him to further develop
skills in particular areas of interest. He may
elect academic opportunities in additional
honors-level mathematics, science, and foreign language courses, or choose to focus on
developing performance skills in speech and
music or aptitude in practical arts. Electing a
variety of these courses will benefit him as he
prepares for college and his life’s work.
