Vikon® Quick Release
IF A SURGICAL INSTRUMENT CANNOT BE CLEANED,
IT CANNOT BE STERILIZED
Design considerations for ease of cleaning have been incorporated in the new Vikon® Quick Release
Kerrison Rongeur, for easy and effective cleaning. Inaccessible locations no longer exist so you can clean
places you couldn’t reach before.
INEFFECTIVE CLEANING OF SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS
CAN BE A VECTOR FOR THE TRANSMISSION OF HOSPITAL
ACQUIRED INFECTIONS
In one study of instruments that had been cleaned, more than 60% of the instruments showed a high
degree of protein soiling (0.4 to 4.2µg protein/mm2) or crystalline deposits that may consist of a potentially
hazardous material that contribute to inflammation and surgical complications.

ACQUIRED INFECTIONS IN MEDICAL FACILITIES
Recent studies have shown that there are approximately 2 million cases of “HAIs” responsible for nearly
100,000 deaths in the United States every year. If instruments are not cleaned properly prior to sterilization,
they are a serious risk factor in the spread of “HAIs”. Anyone in contact with these instruments, up to and
including the patient on which they are used, is at risk of contracting an infection due to this bioburden.
