SOLD … FOR $2.6 MILLION!
Those exuberant words sum up the success for the week-long charitable celebration of TWO x TWO for AIDS
and Art, which collectively raised a record $7 million for amfAR and the Dallas Museum of Art at the
16th annual gala. In true fashion, it was a week filled with parties — forum dinners, Rat Pack
reunions, “Cher” cameos and evenings befitting a dynasty.
Cindy and Howard Rachofsky opened their home (which remained open for the next
Gabrielle
six days) and invited VIPs to an exclusive tour of the exalted auction items on exhibition. DMA
de Papp
forum chairs Lisa Moore and Nasiba Hartland Mackie (who also served as chair of First
Look) greeted guests as they sneaked a peek at the art, Möet in hand, and mingled with
Gabrielle de Papp of Farfetch, the evening’s sponsor.
Later that week, it was time to whip out one’s finest costumes as socials headed to First
Drew
Ireland
Look.
The Rat Pack-themed evening had the convivial crowd not only in good spirits but also

in impressive ensembles. Cindy Rachofsky rocked a pink feathery headdress; Brian Bolke

sported a suit decked out in dollar-bill signs by Moschino; and Elaine Agather channeled
Marilyn Monroe with a vintage gold sequined jumpsuit, fur stole and cat-eye sunnies. Lombardi
Family Concepts served bites, Belvedere grapefruit cocktails were shaken-not-stirred by a
bartending Elvis, and DJ Lucy Wrubel got everyone’s groove on — as did the audacious
Chad Michaels, who turned back time dressed as Cher.
The festivities that followed two days later got a little more … golden. Gala chairs
John and Lisa Runyon welcomed celebrants back to the Rachofsky residence for round
two of TWO x TWO, a star-studded evening that welcomed actress Allison Janney,
emcee John Benjamin Hickey, songstress Erykah Badu, and Mavs center Tyson
Chandler. Todd Events (which also designed First Look) transformed a 7,000-square-foot,

48-foot-tall geodesic domed tent for a week of festivities with white orchids, candelabras
Sagansky
and a honeycombed canopy draped across the main stage.
After the seated dinner by Cassandra Fine Catering, the live auction caused quite a
stir. Sotheby’s chairman Jamie Niven auctioned off noted works of art including Frank
Bowling’s Cathedral, 1975, an acrylic on canvas, courtesy of Bowling and Hales Gallery
in London; Jeff Koons’ polyurethane resin Dom Pérignon Balloon Venus, 2013, and Shinro
Ohtake’s Retina #24, 1991, a photograph and plastic resin on wooden board. But the shock value
soared when Cindy Rachofsky, taking an offer over the phone, announced that she had a $2.6 million
bidder, vying for 2014 honoree artist Wade Guyton’s Untitled, 2008, an Epson Ultrachrome inkjet on
linen, courtesy of Guyton and Petzel Gallery in New York. “Sold!” shouted Niven.
After the record-breaking bid, it was time for a little entertainment from five-time Grammy-winning
CeeLo Green, who wowed the crowd with his over-the-top performance. Hitting the dance floor:
brunch hosts Amy and Vernon Faulconer; and gala guests Gayle and Paul Stoffel, Eric Muscatell,
Kevin Fink, Michael Patrick, Andrew Lipman, Curt Shepard, Jan Showers, Piper Rogers, Sam
Tsao, Gabriel Ritter, Chris Salgardo, Peggy Lanigan, Bianca Anderson, Nancy Nasher and
David Haemisegger, Ann Barbier-Mueller, and Marguerite Hoffman.
