Fourth Quarter 2014
...The Umbrella...
HFS Voted Best Bank/
Credit Union in East Hawaii
Mahalo East Hawaii and readers of the Hawaii Tribune-Herald for voting HFS
Federal Credit Union the Best Bank/Credit Union for 2014. We are humbled
and thankful for this special recognition. We would like to thank our
valued member-owners, dedicated employees, and our community for
their continued support. This award validates our continued commitment
to providing outstanding member service each and every day and the
development of financial products designed to help our members achieve
their financial goals.
HFS Fights Back Against Cancer
Through the generosity of our outstanding members and employees, HFS FCU was able to raise over $18,450
for the American Cancer Society! We would like to thank our members and employees for their donations
and fundraising efforts during the months of June and July and to the many employees who volunteered at
the Kona and Hilo Relay for Life events.
Special recognition goes out to our top employee fund-raisers, Lorna Krahner from our Keaau office, and Dawn
Shiroma and Charis Watanabe-Atiz from our Hilo office.
The American Cancer Society is committed to saving lives and creating a world with more birthdays by helping
people stay well and get well, finding cures, and fighting back. Thank you for helping us to raise these funds for such
a worthy organization.

Credit or Debit - Which do you Choose?
When you’re at the store checkout line using your HFS Debit
MasterCard® and are asked “debit or credit?” which form of
payment do you choose? Do you know what the differences are?
Here are the facts:
• Both options withdraw the money you’ve authorized from your HFS Share Draft account. Plus, beginning on October 17, 2014, MasterCard® will expand its zero liability coverage to both
signature and PIN authorized transactions when fraud is reported
to help protect you, should you become a victim of Identity Theft.*
• Opting to use “Debit” requires you to authorize your transaction by using your PIN. The funds will be immediately taken out of your account to pay the vendor. Remember, do not write down your PIN number or share it with others.
• Selecting “Credit” means that you will authorize your purchase
with your signature. Although the money will come out of your checking, it may take several days to post to your account and for
the money to be withdrawn. Credit purchases, or those
authorized with your signature qualify you for ScoreCard Rewards Points. Redeem your points for merchandise, hotel reservations,
car rentals, and more.
Attention all Travel Enthusiasts!

chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas plus a
$500 MasterCard® Prepaid Card or other great
prizes. Simply use your HFS FCU Debit MasterCard®
for your everyday purchases and with each
qualifying signature transaction made in the month
of October you will be automatically entered to
win. For additional information and the Official
Rules, visit www.hfsfcu.org and click on the Ticket

Have you Enrolled in your Free $2,000 Accident Insurance?
If something were to happen to you, how would your family be impacted financially?
Accidents can happen at any time and loss of income can dramatically affect your family’s
ability to pay for basic household expenses, childcare costs, and more. HFS Group Accident
Insurance pays for a covered loss which is caused by or is a result of an accidental injury
including loss of limb, sight, hearing and speech. You could also qualify for additional benefits
if you are in the hospital or become permanently and totally disabled.
As an HFS member you receive $2,000 in free Accident Insurance simply by enrolling. If you
haven’t enrolled in your free coverage, download and complete the Group Accident
Insurance Enrollment Form from the HFS website and return it to Royal State Insurance.
You can also enhance your Group Accident Insurance protection by adding more coverage
for a very affordable price. For example, you can purchase $50,000 in coverage for just $3.60
per month and up to $250,000 in coverage for just $18.00 per month!
For a complete list of rates and plan benefits, exclusions and restrictions, please refer to the Insurance Products
page under Resources on our HFS website.
