We are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair with the many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fastback from 1964½ to the current model or the 2004 Cobra, we love them all. The mission of club members is to collect, restore, and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for membership, your enthusiasm, expertise, and / or love of the automobile are most welcome. Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are always exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter, The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information, advertisements and business service locations and more. Some club activities include car shows, picnics, sporting events, cruise nights and technical sessions. It seems like yesterday, we were at our January planning meeting, and now we are already making plans for Mustang Memories 2016! I have never been busier in my entire life. In April, I switched jobs and boy have I been busy. It is nonstop, but yet I love waking up every day and heading into work. It has really affected my time with my beloved Mustangs; I have not had a chance to even drive my 1993 yet this year and only had my 2005 out 3 times. At least I have driven my cars in all of the time I have owned them. Work and travel has consumed all of my time. I did purchase a new summer daily driver, a truck, of course, as I am always hauling something. I picked up a 1995 SVT Lightning F150, and so far I love it! It looks pretty good and always turns heads. God knows I don't need any more trophies for the rest of my life, so I just went for one that can be used as an everyday pickup truck. I think this one will stay with me for a while! Hope to see everyone very soon! MOCSEM is a very unique club; it's a family filled with passion and pride for our beloved Mustang. Again Thank You, Lon MOCSEM Calendar By Jennifer Smith, MOCSEM Social Director Dawn Orosz’s 2001 Mustang Cobra I grew up around cars, however all GM products. And my mom has had four Corvettes over the years. But, I remember seeing a Terminator going down the street and hearing that rumble and thinking to myself…someday. My priorities changed once my kids grew up. We were by chance looking on Craig's list in March of 2012 and there it was! Not a Terminator, but a Cobra and red at that!! That's where my love affair began. My Cobra came with all the documentation, original window sticker, SVT certified and both remotes with the original keys. It has changed a lot since that day, but I still love it. All Things Mustang Can you believe September is here already?! We sure do cherish our summers here in Michigan especially since they are so short! Enjoy every bit that you can while making memories with your Mustangs. Thank you to all of the volunteers that worked Mustang Memories. The worker appreciation dinner has been scheduled for November 14th at Fox Hills Golf and Banquet Center, Plymouth, MI. Please sign up by November 1st. Please note that the September general membership meeting will be held at the Automotive Hall of Fame at 21400 Oakwood Blvd, Dearborn, MI. Our featured speaker will be Giuliano Zuccato, one of the clay modelers of the original Mustang. You must be a MOCSEM member to attend this meeting. We will be serving a complimentary pizza dinner. This month’s featured event is the Berardi Collection Tour on Saturday, September 26th. Mike Berardi has an incredible collection of Mustangs and has graciously offered an exclusive tour of his collection. You must sign up for this event online or in person at the next general membership meeting. By Lonnie Brammer, MOCSEM Vice President I would like to take a moment of your time to say a big Thank You to all the team leaders and workers that came to setup on Saturday and to work the Memories show on Sunday. We plan the biggest and best car show this side of the Mississippi. It doesn't happen if you don't step up and help us Below are just some of the upcoming area and regional events to note since events are still being added. Please check the website calendar frequently for the latest event details or feel free to contact me with questions. I look forward to seeing you at the next general meeting! CONGRATULATIONS! She received $1,000.00 from the scholarship fund towards her education at Eastern Michigan University. We wish her continued success in her educational goals. The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan Scholarship Fund was created to encourage and reward youth participation in MOCSEM and the Mustang hobby. The scholarship provides financial funds to be used for college/university/trade school training. It is available to MOCSEM members and their immediate family members. Thank you MOCSEM members for contributing to this fund. Also thank you to the scholarship committee members, Mark Berk, Phyllis Berk, Norma Brammer, Dawn Davis, Bill Davis and Mike Trosell. This is my first ever scholarship! Hi my name is Allana Beyar; I would like to thank everyone who helped make this possible; it really helps a lot. I grew up loving Ford Mustangs, through my family's love for Fords. My first car is a Bright Atlantic Blue 2000 convertible. I received my Mustang when I was 15 years old. I didn't even have my license yet, but I had my car and could hardly wait to drive it. The deal was if I found a car in the budget I could get it. I went and only looked at Mustangs. I found the one I have now and fell in love. My parents are a huge part of my love for Mustang because they all drive Mustangs. My dad has taught me so much about my own car and other cars. He has also helped me clean up my car, with fixing the rust and suspension as well as adding some awesome details. I learned how to work on brake calipers and detailing under the hood. My parents and I attend as many cruises as we can. We spend a lot of our free time volunteering at MOCSEM events. I will be attending Eastern Michigan University this fall to become a travel trauma nurse; I am thinking about obstetrics as well. I will be taking 15 credit hours, which is a full-time student while living on campus. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University, I plan on traveling the world applying my nursing skills. Someday I plan to completely restore my 2000 Bright Atlantic Blue Mustang convertible and keep it as a show car. I would like to buy a 2015 Mustang convertible as a daily driver. I will also continue to be a proud MOCSEM member, helping give back and supporting this scholarship for other students like me. Winning this scholarship is such a blessing. This scholarship helps me with my career path while enjoying my hobby. It is a dream come true! Thank you, Allana R. Beyar Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan • PO Box 39088, Redford, MI 48239 • www.mocsem.com The Accelerator Page 8 Racers Corner By Becki Belcher Route 66 Raceway Joliet, IL NMRA/NMCA Superbowl July 30th – August 2nd NMRA & NMCA rolled into the fifth stop of the NMRA race tour at Route 66 Raceway. We were not only prepared to drag race but to go head to head at the finale in an all-out FORD vs. CHEVY SuperBowl style race. Route 66 is sister track to Chicagoland Speedway, a 1.5 mile D-Shaped tri-oval that it hosts to some of the largest events such as NASCAR Sprint cup, NHRA Lucas Oil Series and NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. There was a record setting attendance of over 275 cars; this stop in the tour was one of the biggest turnouts in the ten year history of the series. The excitement was intense coming into Joliet, as Route 66 has been the home to many record setting passes and personal bests; racers came to deliver nothing shy of that. Over 30 race classes filled with all types of astounding sheet metal designed to traverse the famous quarter mile track that is Route 66. The action was as red hot as we envisioned it would be. We sat on edge of our seats watching everything from 5 second promods to the true street warriors battle it out for supremacy and the coveted Diamond tree ring at the end of the weekend. The Adrenaline-charged conclusion to this four day event was the anticipated SuperBowl of Street Legal Drag racing Shootout. The pairing winners receive bonus money and the winning team brings home the Nitto Tire Diamond Tree ring. Strange Engineering Coyote Stock lining up with Chevrolet Performance Stock; the winner gets two points in the shootout to eliminate any tie. It came down to the final pair for the third year in a row; at the finish line it was Drew Lyons taking home the win for NMRA and Ford and sealing the fate of the NMCA with a 10.45 at 127 mph in his Coyote Stock mustang against Glen Pushis in his Chevrolet Performance stock Camaro. It was a dramatic end to the shootout and Lyons was the hero for NMRA and Ford fans everywhere. The finale was intense and Team NMRA walked away with the Nitto Tire Diamond Tree ring for the eighth time in the past ten years. The 2015 NMRA Keystone Automotive drag racing season concludes October 1-4 at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY with the 17th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA All-Ford World Finals. The stage is set for one of the best races of the year and one of the most action packed races in years. The Bowling Green, KY finals will crown the NMRA Champions as well as hold host to a special “Grudge” night starring the Racers of Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws TV show. It’s surely the race to be at for excitement and some of the fastest Fords in the country. The SuperBowl shootout is not an easy or equal crossover; this year we had twelve pairings. Team NMRA battled back and forth with Team NMCA before going behind 1 point heading into the final pair which seemed like a story book race of Ford VS Chevy. The tie breaker was the final match with Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan • PO Box 39088, Redford, MI 48239 • www.mocsem.com The Accelerator Page 9 Another Successful Mustang Memories BY CRAIG ZYGMUNT The temperature wasn't the only thing that made things hot on August 16th at Ford's Product Development Center in Dearborn, MI. The 2015 Mustang Memories show turned on the heat. It was a nice casual atmosphere this year after all the hoopla last year over the Mustang 50th anniversary. There were lots of Mustangs, lots of vendors in the Midway and as usual lots of great Mustang enthusiasts. It was hot, but the sun was shining and the weather was otherwise perfect for the event. As always the show wouldn't be possible without the countless hours put in by an army of MOCSEM volunteers. In a show this size there are many moving parts and many opportunities for glitches but the staff kept things running smoothly and as always made this one of the best organized shows around. Thanks to MOCSEM's sponsors who make the vendor midway second to none. And thanks to Ford Motor Company for providing such and awesome venue for the show. The size and layout of the property and the support that Ford provides make such a large show possible.
