What is the 2% Lodging Tax?
Who Pays the 2 % Lodging Tax?
The lodging tax is a tax paid on overnight
stays at hotels, campgrounds, and bed &
breakfasts in Sweetwater County.
The tax is paid by
visitors who stay in
Sweetwater County
lodging establishments.
Sweetwater County
residents do not pay
the tax unless they stay
in one of these establishments.
Is this a New Tax?
No. The lodging tax was first approved by
Sweetwater County voters in 1991 and
has been renewed four times since. The
lodging tax will be up for renewal again
on the November 2, 2010 ballot.
Travelers support recreational and
event opportunities that area residents enjoy.
What is the Purpose of the Tax?
To enhance the economy of
Sweetwater County and its municipalities
by encouraging the promotion of
activities and other recreational
opportunities, which will attract and
retain visitors to Sweetwater County
and its municipalities.
