Who Pays the 2 % Lodging Tax? The lodging tax is a tax paid on overnight stays at hotels, campgrounds, and bed & breakfasts in Sweetwater County. The tax is paid by visitors who stay in Sweetwater County lodging establishments. Sweetwater County residents do not pay the tax unless they stay in one of these establishments. Is this a New Tax? No. The lodging tax was first approved by Sweetwater County voters in 1991 and has been renewed four times since. The lodging tax will be up for renewal again on the November 2, 2010 ballot. Travelers support recreational and event opportunities that area residents enjoy. What is the Purpose of the Tax? To enhance the economy of Sweetwater County and its municipalities by encouraging the promotion of activities and other recreational opportunities, which will attract and retain visitors to Sweetwater County and its municipalities. This spending takes place throughout the county at all types of businesses and employs 1,900 people. Marketing Materials www.TourWyoming.com T he T&T Board implemented a media campaign in Spring 2009 and measured the effectiveness of the campaign by commissioning a conversion study. Results of the conversion study indicated that there was a return on investment to the local economy of for every $1 spent on advertising. –SMARI
