I n additio n t o causin g th e c a n c e l l a t i o n o f Tuesday' s classes, th e sno w wa s a night mare fo r students with car s o n campus. Resident s fro m Ne w Castle to Washington had hor ror storie s t o t e l l . Student s reported tha t th e Cranmor e Lot wa s plowe d only once an d while i t was stil l snowing . This led t o two-t o three-hou r dig ging-out struggles . M a n y i n Lot #1 0 encountere d difficul ties tryin g to ge t thei r vehicle s up a hil l covere d i n blac k ice . Those i n W i n n i p e s a u k e e found a plo w blocked the en trance. Other s complaine d o f insufficient number s o f shov els tha t P u b l i c Safet y h a d available. I encoun tered a l i n e tha t stretche d along bot h side s o f th e hall way, fro m th e SA S door, pas t the Career , Learne r an d Aca demic Suppor t Service s of fice, ou t th e doo r o f Exete r H a l l an d int o th e snowstor m outside. A t 7 a.m . th e S A S door s opened, a n d I reache d th e registration counte r a t 8:2 0 a.m., thre e hour s afte r I ha d a r r i v e d . B u t , I wa s l u c k y . H a v i n g alread y complete d a good numbe r o f credits, I wa s able t o ge t a l l th e classe s I wanted. That , however , wa s not th e cas e fo r m a n y s t u dents wh o waite d i n lin e a s long an d longer . Wa s i t th e case fo r you ? Speaking wit h a numbe r o f my classmates , I learne d tha t the majorit y arrive d betwee n 1 a n d 3 a.m . w i t h th e firs t group arrivin g at 1 1 p.m. th e night before , a s I a m sur e many o f you remember . Physi cal fights erupted i n that eight hour line , an d som e o f thos e who waited the longes t di d not get any o f th e classe s the y needed o r hope d for , necessi - tating goin g back to th e en d of the l i n e a n d s t a r t i n g over . Five o f thos e student s fel l asleep i n my 8 a.m . clas s - fo r which I ha d bee n a half-hou r late, an d otherwis e depend able student s j u s t s k i p p e d their 8 an d 9:3 0 a.m . classe s because the y ha d no t slept , choosing thei r bed s instead .
