WHERE
BIEN-ÊTRE
TO EAT
The street food trend is
coming to the mountains!
Savoie Mont Blanc is
famous for its mountain
specialties, as well as its
gastronomic and Michelinstarred restaurants,
but it now also offers
excellent street food.
Insider’s Tips
Food Vans
La K-Bane is a hut at the bottom of the
slopes of Praz-sur-Arly. The owners, a couple
from the Netherland, are serving delicious
meat skewers, salads such as the humous
Dubai salad and their famous K-Bane burger
with a home-made sauce. It can be taken
away or eaten at some of their outside
tables. La K-Bane has been awarded a
Certificate of Excellence by Tripadvisor.
In Megève, three excellent restaurants
have a food van.
The W’s, the food van of the famous
restaurant Le W du Christomet, is the trendy
place to be! Located on the Jaillet slope, the
W’s has some deckchairs, music and serves
delicious sandwiches and paninis.
© Caron Freeride Café_Val Thorens
Restaurant Le Farto is another excellent
recommendation in Praz-sur-Arly. At the
bottom of the slopes, the restaurant offers
a platter with a mini raclette, a mini
tartiflette and a mini rissole de Reblochon,
with some charcuterie and a small salad.
This is the perfect way to try several yummy
Savoyard specialties, for only €15! The
rissole, which is a type of doughnut filled
with cheese or meat can be bought to take
away.
In Les Arcs, at 2,000m, the Bulle Café is
an igloo made of glass. Skiers can enjoy
oysters without even taking their skis off!
€9 for six oysters and the Bulle Café serves
Savoie white wine by the glass. This is the
perfect combination of sea and mountain
products!

Restaurant Le Dahu, ideally located at
the bottom of the Rochebrune piste, has a
food van for those who want to eat
something quickly or take it away. However,
the quality is as good as in the restaurant.
Restaurant Le 540 also has a food van,
called the Monkey Diner. It serves excellent
sandwiches, paninis, salads and soups for a
quick lunch or snack before going back on
the slopes.
In Orelle, Anne-Marie’s food van, located
at the bottom of the gondola, delights skiers
and pedestrians with her pizzas prepared
with a delicious home-made base.
Arêches-Beaufort hasn’t got a food van,
but a bus! Le Bus Gourmet is a restaurant
located in a bus. Next to the Grand Mont
slope, the friendly owners of the bus, Michel
and François, prepare original dishes based
on local products, as well as a few Asian
dishes. It is around €10 for a main.

I want a burger!
Everybody loves a burger! Classic,
gourmet or unusual, all types of burgers
can be found in Savoie Mont Blanc.
For an unusual burger at high altitude,
try the Caron Freeride Café in Val Thorens.
Located at the top of the Cime Caron, at
3,200m, the highest café in the 3 Valleys
serves a Scandinavian reindeer burger with
Girolle mushrooms as well as a bison burger.
In Val Thorens too, le 2.MILLE.3, the
restaurant of five-star hotel the Altapura,
offers an excellent burger, the Burger des
Cimes, which can be enjoyed on the beautiful
terrace, watching the skiers passing by. The
same burger is served at the mountain
restaurant the Alpette, in Megève. Both are
owned by the Sibuet family. The Burger des
Cimes costs €14 at le 2.MILLE.3 and €16 at
l’Alpette.
La Peau de Vache is a mountain
restaurant in Val d’Isère, located in the
middle of the legendary run La Face de
Bellevarde. La Peau de Vache offers six
gourmet burgers, with buns coming from
Boulangerie - Patisserie Chevallot, one of
the Alps’ best patisseries. Le Bellevarde
Burger with Reblochon at €25 is especially
popular. There is also a Sweety Burger, made
with Savoy biscuit, myrtilles and cream.
In Val d’Isère, restaurant Les Crozet
offers a very original burger. The Rösti
Burger is made with horse steak, on a potato
base. It must be ordered the day before.
The Panoramic, located at the exit of the
funicular in Tignes, makes a yummy burger
with local produce. The Burger Savoyard is
made with meat coming from Séez, a small
village down the valley plus Beaufort cheese
and bacon from the valley too. It can be
enjoyed standing up on the terrace, in a deck
chair, or inside, in the lounge which was
redecorated last year.
Le Howard’s in Haute Maurienne Vanoise
also prepares delicious burgers with local
products. The cheese comes from the local
dairy and the meat from Val-Cenis Vanoise.
The Reblochon cheese, traditionally used
for the local dish Tartiflette is also more and
more used for burgers. Le Bistrot Savoyard
in Peisey-Vallendry has a Burger Maison au
Reblochon at €15 and La Chavinette in the
heart of La Clusaz also makes a delicious
Reblochon burger.
The Micro-Brasserie de Chamonix-MontBlanc (MBC) offers 21 different burgers.
Beef, chicken and lamb, but the MBC hasn’t
forgotten vegetarians with four types of
veggie burgers.
