a wide variety of wood material choices.
Hand Hewn fireplace mantels provide character that cannot be replicated.
These beams were created by hand using a broad axe and retain the charm
embedded by the artisans who created them.
Rough Sawn beams provide a more refined mantel inherent with the
saw marks created when the beams were originally milled more than
a century ago.

We bear something in mind when we reclaim the sources of our livelihood:
We hope to still be useful when we're old. And look really, really good.
We have a deep respect for the environment and creations of nature. And
for those passionate craftsmen who, generations ago, carefully wrought
classic materials from nature’s offerings. So our production process is slow
and intimate compared to the warp speed and detachment with which
many building materials are made today. The wood has waited for us; the
least we can do is treat it right. Again.

Elmwood prides itself on being green. Wouldn’t have
it any other way. The Forestry Stewardship Council
thinks so, too. It even certified us for doing exactly
what we’ve done for some time now — maintaining a
low ecological impact all the way from the woods to
the finished building.
But upholding those standards means there’s only so
much timber to reclaim. Sometimes it’s scarce. Other
times, there’s a surplus and an opportunity to score a
