This is Ed Moelands. He is not a marketing
commodity and he is not a puppet.
He started out styling his friends at a local house
party. It didn’t take long for his infamous party
trick to become a global styling phenomenon.

a smoother bend, brush the hair towards the face.
3. While blow-drying the hair, focus on building
extra height at the crown. Add more VOLUPT

4. Use a straightening iron to create a smooth
surface on the long front pieces to keep then
controlled. VOLUPT SPRAY also provides heat
protection and keeps the hair completely soft.

2. Take a soft natural bristle brush and backcomb
the hair at the roots and on top of the head.
Create a tight cushion at the roots to support the
hair and to put emphasis on the volume.
3. If needed, spray SHAPER ZERO GRAVITY onto
the hair while you define the shape. The bigger
the better. Keep the ends soft and defined, freeze
the movement while keeping a soft illusion.

lemon-sized amount of MOUSSE FORTE to toweldried hair and comb it through for an even distribution. Blow-dry the hair with a medium-sized
round brush for extra volume and root lift.
2. Take a large barrel iron and beginning with
a Mohawk section, barrel-curl the entire head,
applying a thin layer of MOUSSE FORTE to each
strand before curling for extra support. Allow
hair to cool down before brushing through in all
directions using a large soft brush.
2. Power-dry the hair using a big round
brush and focus on creating root lift.
3. Start using a smaller iron at the nape
on crescent-shaped sections to create
spiral curls. As you move up, curling the
hair in circular sections, use different
sizes of curling irons on various sized
sections. Fix each section with a small
clip and allow to cool.
4. Take out clips and use your fingers to
separate the curls, unveiling the volume
without losing the definition. To create
more fullness, backcomb some of the
strands with a small brush.
5. Apply SHAPER ZERO GRAVITY to
increase the hold and define tips.
3. Backcomb the top area slightly at the roots for
fullness at the crown and hold.
4. Create a smooth frame around the face and
detail the ends with additional MOUSSE FORTE
using your fingertips.

layered cut built into a rounded shape enhances the gentle
swing of voluptuous curves and feminine forms before being
blasted up into a frenzy of rising hair. Soft curls and billows

2. Starting at the fringe, blow-dry the whole head
with a large round brush and fix each finished
section into a large barrel with a duckbill clip.
3. Allow the hair to cool for 5–10 minutes.

3. Remove the pins and brush with a large soft
brush to expand your style.
4. Add SHAPER ZERO GRAVITY at the roots and
tips, backcomb the root area with a large soft-bristle
brush. Spray over with SHAPER ZERO GRAVITY to
freeze a 3D shape with a weightless hold.
5. Apply additional layers of SHAPER ZERO
GRAVITY while blow-drying for blown-up
movement.
4. Remove the pins, tilt the head over and brush
the hair using a large brush, working up hair into
a soft voluminous mane. Bring the head up and
slightly backcomb with a natural bristle brush at
the roots to create a cushioning effect, keeping
the top surface and fringe areas smooth and
beveled.
5. Apply SHAPER ZERO GRAVITY if needed.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
REFERENCE POINTS ON THE HEAD
CROWN –
The area on top of the head including the axis.
RECISION –
The area of the hairline that recedes just above the temple.
TOP OF THE EAR –
The high point of the ear.
OCCIPITAL –
The rounded protrusion at the back of the head, just above the nape.
Some are more prominent than others.
HAIRLINE –
Where the hair meets the skin of the face, sides, or neck.

CUTTING TECHNIQUES:
BACK CUTTING – Cut at a 90-degree angle in
vertical sections, scissors curve inwards as
they cut with the heel of the blades toward
the head. This will enhance movement,
separation, and texture on long hair.
CURVE CUTTING – Gently hold the blade between
the thumb and the two first fingers (like a pen),
cut using a curving motion, starting at the
mid shaft through the ends. This will open
spaces into the hair, allowing movement.
POINT CUTTING – Using the tips of the scissors,
keeping fingers away from the desired
length, cut directly into the hair, creating an
erratic line within the shape or creating a
serrated edge. Can be used on wet or dry hair.
• For a more choppy texture, the shears
cut at a diagonal angle.
• For a more subtle serrated edge (broken
line), the blades of the scissors are vertical,
practically parallel to the hair for a more
diffused effect. The deeper the cut, the
more diffused the line. This technique is
preferable on dry hair.
SKIMMING – This consists of a fluid motion with
the blade: The blade is laid flat on the hair
shaft and using long, smooth strokes, skim
the surface of the section, making sure to go
all the way to the ends. This creates a smooth,
even reduction of bulk, and a soft edge.
SLIDE CUTTING – This consists of sliding the
shears along the hair shaft to remove weight,
soften the ends, and increase movement and
separation of the hair.
SPLICE CUTTING – Using the blade, work along
the hair shaft vertically or horizontally and
cut soft, open spaces. Or, holding a section
between the fingers, pinch the hair between
the thumb and the blade, removing the
desired weight (use blade with a guard only).
