New EMV Security Chip
for Credit & Debit Cards
Financial institutions throughout the United States
have begun the process of enhancing
payment security by introducing
EMV chip card technology. EMV
chip cards feature an embedded microprocessor chip that
creates unique approval codes
for each purchase made in store.
Rather than swiping your credit or
debit card through a card reader,
new EMV card processing equipment
will allow you to insert or tap your chip
card against the reader. The micro chip on
your card will then communicate with the reader
to establish a secure connection and to create an authorization token unique to your transaction.

What Is An
ATM Skimming Device?
An ATM skimmer is a device that attaches inconspicuously to an
ATM and secretly captures credit and debit card information when
cardholders slip their cards into the machine. Often no larger than
a deck of cards, ATM skimmers can blend right into the machine
they’ve been placed on and are often hard to spot.
Here’s what to look out for
when using an ATM:
➔ A card slot that is a different color
than the rest of the machine
➔ Loose wires hanging from the machine
➔ A machine that looks like it’s been tampered with
➔ Nuts or bolts that seem to be out of place
➔ A card slot that does not slide your card smoothly
If you notice anything suspicious when using an ATM, do not use the
machine and notify the owner of the ATM right away.
