Sponsorship Package Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race Winnipeg 2017 February 8-12, 2017 www.gnctr2017.com 23 December 2015 Dear Potential Sponsor: I am pleased that the 2017 Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) will be hosted by University of Manitoba engineering students and the event held in Winnipeg during February 2017. Since its start in 1975 this event has continuously grown and about 450 student competitors from as many as 20 engineering programs from across Canada are expected to compete here in Winnipeg next winter. The GNCTR gives students the opportunity to showcase their technical prowess, as well as a chance to meet with prominent engineers and engineering students from across the country, establishing friends and networks that can last a lifetime. The competition is designed to refine students’ public speaking, technical writing and other communication skills through the planning, design, fabrication and presentation of their concrete toboggan – all skills that complement their engineering studies and help them excel in their careers after graduation. To host and organize the GNCTR takes a team of dedicated and driven students – attributes inherent to our University of Manitoba engineering students. A well organized student team has been established to ensure that the 2017 GNCTR here in Winnipeg is the best ever and showcases Manitoba talent to the rest of Canada. To host this event requires substantial financial support beyond that available from competitor registration fees. I invite you to review the sponsorship package and discover how your organization can help maximize the success of the 2017 GNCTR – it will be an ideal venue for you to meet dozens to hundreds of future outstanding engineers. On behalf of the 2017 GNCTR organizing committee and the Faculty of Engineering, we thank you for your interest in supporting engineering students, their project and their future success. Sincerely, Jonathan Beddoes, Ph.D., P.Eng. Dating back to 1975, this adaptation of the American Concrete Canoe Race brings together over 400 engineering students accross all disciplines, from technical institutions across Canada. These students will be given the opportunity to apply and develop their skills in design, technical writing, networking, and management. GNCTR was last held in Winnipeg in 2007. A full decade later, the 2017 Organizing Committee is excited to be carrying on the GNCTR tradition of teamwork, sportsmanship, school spirit, and innovation in Winnipeg once again. The Toboggans Competitors will be asked to design and build a toboggan which can safely carry 5 passengers. All toboggans must consist of an entirely concrete running surface, a structural frame, a breaking system, and a functional steering system all while weighing less than 350lbs. Teams will be judged on a number on categories including concrete mix design, frame design, steering, breaking, technical report, race day performance, and school spirit. Teams will not be allowed to compete if their toboggans do not meet the safety and technical guidelines. 4 Why Sponsor GNCTR?
