The regrouping of the three municipalities, Sainte-Agathe-Sud, Sainte-Agathe-Nord and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts in 2002, and the decennial strategic plan implemented in 2005 have brought winds of renewal into the town. Revitalization of the downtown area and Place Lagny The downtown area has gone through a true metamorphosis. This transformation, conceived for the people, facilitates pedestrian activity: street furnishings and signage have been improved and parking lots have been added. New businesses and boutiques as well as cafés and restaurants have joined the downtown core making it exciting and inviting. Trees have been planted, cables buried and numerous buildings restored. Place Lagny, alongside Lac des Sables, underwent a major transformation in 2003 and is at the heart of community life. It is situated in the downtown core and the bicycle path running though it is in close proximity to the P’tit Train du Nord linear park. It is the meeting place for popular events, the main site for outdoor show presentations and the ideal place for family leisure activities. Conscientious development To ensure the harmonious growth of its territory, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts proposes conscientious development. Different programs have been put in place to ensure preservation of nature, the existing patrimonial architecture as well as the quality of the drinking water. Landscape protection The Architectural Implementation and Integration Plan, was implemented by the town to ensure proper development of specific areas such as the patrimonial sector and mountain lots. This essential tool allows for proper adaptation of projects according to specific areas while maintaining precise criteria. Protection of riparian strips Adoption of a family policy that meets the needs of families and ensures a quality living environment. This first family policy that applies to all municipal services was adopted in 2009. Preservation patrimonial architecture The Town has invested notable efforts to restore the value of many of the patrimonial buildings in the downtown core; some resident owners have contributed by restoring their homes. A one hour walking tour on the circuit around the town will let you discover the rich history of the community. Creation of a cultural policy Implemented in 2007, the town’s cultural policy affirms Agathois’ sense of identity and renders culture more accessible for the entire community. The recent creation of Sainte-Agathe-des-Arts, a local organization created for show presentations in collaboration with le Théâtre le Patriote, is a concrete example of this policy. Residential and commercial development • Substantial increase in commercial activity, 50 new businesses joined the downtown area between 1999 and 2009. • A 149 % increase in construction and renovation permit value between 2002 and 2009, reaching close to 28 million dollars in 2009.
