MAY 16 TORONTO – TUNIS - HAMMAMET
Meet upon arrival and transfer to hotel. Dinner and
overnight at the hotel. D
MAY 17 HAMMAMET – TUNIS – CARTHAGE - SIDI
BOUSAID - HAMMAMET
After breakfast, departure to visit the Bardo Museum,
which houses the finest collection of ancient mosaics
and ceramics from the Mediterranean, then visit the
medina of Tunis, with its eternal animation where lie
the souks, covered with a barrel attached brick streets
for centuries. Lunch at Tunis. After lunch, tour the
archaeological site of Carthage, the ancient capital
of an empire whose fleet sailed up to the borders of
the new world. Continue to Sidi Bou Said, the San
Tropez of Tunisia. Take a ride through cobblestone
streets and to see the Andalusian architecture. Dinner
and overnight at the hotel in Hammamet. B/L/D
MAY 18 HAMMAMET - KAIROUAN - SBEITLA - GAFSA
After breakfast, depart to the holy city of Kairouan,
fourth city in terms of importance to Islamic faith,
after the Medina, Mecca and Jerusalem. Visit the
Great Mosque of Uqba Ibn Nefaa one of the oldest
and most revered mosques in Africa. You will also
visit the mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi barber and the
Aghlabid basins, ancient water cisterns built by the
the Aghlabids in the 9th century. Finally visit the
medina and souks. Lunch in Kairouan, after which
you will continue towards Sbeitla and visit the
Roman and Byzantine archaeological site. Arrival
and dinner and overnight in a hotel. B/L/D
MAY 19 GAFSA - METLAOUI - LIZARD - TOZEUR
Departure from the hotel towards Metlaoui. Board
the Red Lizard train, a 19th century train that runs
along old mining tracks from Metlaoui to Redeyef.
The journey travels through red and pink rocks and
the canyons of the Saharan Atlas mountains in central Tunisia . Lunch in Tozeur. In the afternoon enjoy
a city tour of Tozeur and the medina and the Dar
Chraiet museum. Opportunity to visit the local oasis
by horse-drawn carriage (optional and must be paid
locally). Tonight enjoy dinner before your overnight
at the hotel. There will also be an optional folk evening
dinner and show (must be paid locally, approx. 35

MAY 20 TOZEUR - DOUZ - MATMATA
This morning there is an optional half day excursion
by 4X4 to explore the mountain oasis of Tamerza
and Chebika (must be paid locally, approx. 40
dinars). Continue towards the immense Chott elJerid salt lake and salt desert. Depart for Douz,
also known as «the gateway to the Sahara” once
an important stop on the trans-Saharan caravan
routes. Upon arrival enjoy lunch and free time for
an optional camel ride (must be paid locally, approx.
25 dinars per person) before departing on the road
to Matmata for a tour and visit of the Troglodyte
dwellings. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. B/L/D
MAY 21 MATMATA - MEDENINE – CHENINI –
TATAOUIN - DJERBA
Breakfast at the hotel before departing to Medenine,
in pre-colonial times, the most important trading
center in southern Tunisia. Visit the ancient graineries or ghorfas where the Ksar or castle housed the
central granaries of the various nomadic Berber
tribes of the region.. Visit the Berber village of
Chénini before lunch. Travel to Tataouine, a former
place of exile for the French military. Departure to
Djerba and check-in at hotel. Dinner and overnight
at hotel. B/L/D
MAY 22 DJERBA
After breakfast enjoy a tour of the island, famous
for its white sandy beaches, dramatic sunsets and
whitewashed domed houses. The Djerban people
are culturally distinct from mainland Tunisians
and preserve many of their traditions and unique
architecture. Visit the heritage museum in Guellela,
a small village known for its pottery, and the El
Ghriba synagogue renowned throughout the Middle
East. After lunch, visit Houmt Souk, the capital of
the island for some shopping and free time. Dinner
and overnight at the hotel. B/L/D
MAY 23 DJERBA
Day at leisure.
B/L/D
Known in ancient times as Thydrus, it was one
of the richest cities of Roman Africa and is home
to the sixth largest Roman amphitheater in the
world. A visit of the amphitheater is followed by
a departure to Monastir and visit the mausoleum
of the late President Habib Bourguiba. Dinner and
overnight at a hotel in Sousse. B/L/D
MAY 25 MONASTIR - SOUSSE - PORT ELKANTAOUI HAMMAMET
Visit Sousse, pearl of the Sahel, with its old city,
harbour an stunning resorts. Enjoy some free time
in the medina before heading to Port El Kantaoui for
some free time to shop or perhaps enjoy a beverage
on one of the many terraces that overlook the marina. Back to Hammamet and lunch at the hotel.
