Filmmaker wants to show females

t’s no secret that Oscar —
and the rest of his filmmaking buddies — have
always preferred the company of men. Moviemaking
has always been a male-dominated art form, and Carrie
LeZotte is painfully aware of
how women and women’s
issues are generally sidelined
in the film industry.
“No woman has ever won
the Oscar for best director, and
only three have been nominated in the Academy’s history,”
says the Franklin-based filmmaker. “The statistics don’t
improve much when you look
at roles like producer, editor,
cinematographer, or pretty
much any position that works
behind the scenes.”

“Men in the film industry
just don’t seem to be interested in bringing this type of
story to production,” LeZotte,

issues that the movie deals
with impact men as well, this
is a story that deals very honestly with relationships
between women when one of
them is faced with something
like breast cancer.”

The Black Parade — a entirely separate band, comprised of the same
players, that dresses in military or
marching band-style uniforms. Way
refers to it as a dramatic “device”
that adds to the story of the album,
but he says it’s also a reaction to
the backlash the band experienced
after “Three Cheers ...”
“We had, in a lot of different
ways, become a different band
while we were making (‘The Black
Parade’), so we figured we’d just
kind of personify that,” he explains.
“It was like us saying that we’d
kind of developed this persona for
the band before, and we don’t like
how it’s been manipulated and
made into a fashion show. So we
wanted to do something nobody
would expect and do something
that nobody could really duplicate
without looking foolish. And that
was the band The Black Parade.”
Way says MCR will go in and out
of character as The Black Parade
during the shows on the group’s current tour, which kicked off last week
in New Hampshire. The group also
hopes to play “The Black Parade”
album in its entirety at some point,
but for now, its songs are being featured amidst MCR’s other two
albums’ worth of material.
“We’re going to retain the essence
of a rock show,” he says. “It’s going
to bring the music and the band
and the record to life, but it’s going
to be theatrical without being
detracting. It’s not going to be surface over substance.
“We’re really focusing on being
great performers, having the right
amount of instruments and everything in there, and then the theatrics will come into play. But it’s definitely about the music first.”

Staind frontman Aaron Lewis promises that he has “no intention of leaving
the band, in no way, shape or form.”
But he does have high hopes that the
solo work he’s doing will benefit the
hard-rocking quartet as well as himself.
Lewis is on the road playing acoustic
shows, performing the mellow end of
Staind’s catalog — including hits such as
“Outside” and “It’s Been Awhile” — as
well as some new songs that may end up
on his first solo
album.
The goal, he
explains, is “kind of

Lewis says that he and his
bandmates — who released a
