GREETINGS
You're holding in your hands the Suara sustainability report, a summary of the work
carried out by our cooperative in 2013 in terms of finance, society and the environment.
We're still immersed in an adverse economic and social situation at a time with more
questions than answers, making us, the 3,171 Suara professionals, work with even
greater determination and diligence to build a better future. 2013 was a year of growth
for the cooperative thanks to the effort of our whole team and the trust of our clients,
while maintaining a commitment to the people we attend.
The changes made to our organisational model implemented in 2012 have begun to
bear fruit. Because, at Suara, we believe in people and in their immense potential to
create new projects and build a more prosperous future together, both for the people
we attend to and for the professionals themselves.
We feel more like a cooperative than ever, with 861 members that actively and
democratically participate in an enterprise like ours, at a time when hard work of
all these people is essential to ensure the sustainability of our joint project; without
forgetting that each individual helps to build a future within Suara.
This participative model means we can apply innovation throughout our whole
cooperative, through all the different jobs and all the different professional profiles.
Because we all have a lot to contribute, alongside our spirit of continual improvement,
to provide a service that gets better every day and that's tailored to the needs of society.
We do all of this and will continue to do so without losing sight of Suara's values (the
rudder that sets the course for our daily work) and side by side with other organisations,
projects and people to weave our way towards a stronger collective future.

THE ROLE
of a network organisation
Suara's organisational model is based on a network
approach to ensure efficient solutions tailored to all
kinds of needs. Each of the direct care services forms
the core of our activity and is directly supported by
each of the cooperative's areas.
As a cooperative enterprise, the Members' General
Assembly is the main decision-making body. The
Board of Directors, made up of nine members,
represents the interests of the Assembly in the
organisation's everyday work and also deals with
Suara's General Management.

Providing first-class services is one of Suara's priorities,
with quality certificates guaranteeing its process of
continual improvement through the ISO 9001:2008
regulations.

introduction of new projects. 36% of our professionals
are aged between 25 and 39.
The cooperative model guarantees the participation of professionals
in the company's decision-making. In 2013, the number of members
increased to 861.

the highest involvement are service routes (163 people), Espais

TRAINING
Suara is committed to a work-life balance, believing
it encourages commitment among professionals,
ensures a high degree of job satisfaction, retains
talent, boosts productivity and reduces absenteeism
and psycho-social risk.
Suara's team of professionals received 26,497 hours of training in 2013.
There was a high level of participation and a positive assessment of
training in basic IT and basic English. In the corporate sphere, new
training was included in 2013 for members to help them recruit more
members for the cooperative, welcomed and ranked highly by the
participants.

PUBLIC PROMOTION
In 2013 the general, local and specialised media
published a total of 55 pieces in which Suara was
mentioned. Some that stand out are the reports on
cooperativism as a successful, crisis-resistant business
model. Other important events were the conference
Weaving relations, the awarding of the Fem Talent
Prizes and those of the Catalan Association of
Journalists, the growth in jobs and turnover, a report
on Catalan Television about the future of the "Third
Sector" and the first steps in the programme Un, dos,
coop, among others.
In 2013 Suara also raised its profile through actively
organising, attending and participating in conferences
and seminars. The first seminar on early childhood
education, Weaving relations, was held in Sant
Feliu de Guíxols and Suara also co-organised and
sponsored the Social Impact Investment Forum at
ESADE. Other examples of participation include the
4th Congress of the Social Third Sector of Catalonia
(with talks, experiences and visits to the services),
attendance at MedESS (the first social and solidarity
economy meeting of the Mediterranean, in Tunis),
the Housing First conference (held in Berlin by the
European Observatory on Homelessness), and the
International Social Work Conference (Deusto).
In 2013 Suara's website received an average of
52,000 monthly visits. Suara's social networks also
consolidated their presence with a notable increase in
Facebook followers (800) and Twitter followers (1,700)
and more publications on the corporate blog (20
articles).

Information and Resources Centre for Women (CIRD) of Barcelona City Council.

LIABILITIES
At 31 December 2013, the non-current assets on the
balance sheet totalled 10,888,000 euros. In 2013, the
main investments made by the cooperative were
allocated to setting up new facilities for two centres,
the Residential Centre of Educational Action Fluvià in
Olot and the Drop-in Centre/Foster Centre in Amposta.
At 31 December 2013, there was a considerable increase
in current assets compared with the previous year,
caused mainly by the rise in the debit balance and above
all due to the increase in turnover in comparison with
the previous year.
At 31 December 2013, equity had increased by 670,000
euros compared with the previous year, reaching
12,831,000. This is due mainly to the increase in
contributions from members, the increase in reserves
to reinvest surpluses, and profit from the year.
Debts with credit institutions basically correspond to
financing for the investments made. At 31 December
2013, the Cooperative Education, Training, and
Promotion Fund (FEPC) totalled over 1,505,000 euros,
resulting from the agreement of members to allocate
part of the profit to these funds.

At 31 December 2013, the balance sheet of Suara
Serveis SCCL was financially strong, solid and
solvent. At the same date the working capital totalled
11,450,000 euros, almost the same as the previous year.
Approximately 57% of the income comes from health
services, promotion of personal autonomy and
care for dependant persons. Of this income, 84%
corresponds to home care services (SAD). In terms
of education, which accounts for 18% of Suara's
total income, 94% corresponds to income from the
management of nursery schools.

AGGREGATE TURNOVER OF THE COMPANIES IN WHICH
SUARA HAS A HOLDING
The turnover includes Suara Serveis SCCL, Garbet
Garbet EI SCCL, Residència Pla de Martís SCCL, and
Garbet Bugaderia SL. In spite of the current economic
and financial situation, in 2013 a significant increase
in the volume of sales was achieved in comparison
with the previous year. If we compare the increase
in turnover with that of 2008, the growth is equal to
108%.

FOR THE ENVIRONMENT,
looking from the present to the future
Suara's commitment to respect for the environment
helps to reduce energy consumption year after year.
The Resources Efficiency Guide is applied to all the
centres where the cooperative provides a service,
helping to make this possible through good practices
in relation to mobility, energy consumption and
waste management.
MOBILITY
Remote work is promoted in order to
reduce travel, with a growing use of videoconferences for meetings. Suara is also
committed to the use of public transport
and shared vehicles, as well as other
measures.
Consequently, in 2013 fuel consumption
and kilometres travelled were reduced
even further, thereby also reducing CO2
emissions.

WASTE
MANAGEMENT
ENERGY
CONSUMPTION
All the offices and services managed by
Suara are committed to reducing waste and
preventing contamination, despite the fact
that care services for people generate a very
low environmental impact.
Electricity consumption fell by an average
of 21% at the Suara offices thanks to the
promotion of responsible consumption.
Some examples of these practices are
separated waste collection and the use of
recycled material in the centres' activities.
At Suara's nursery schools, for example, we
promote the use of the 'basket of treasures'
and a heuristic game in which children
experiment with discarded objects and
materials.
