*Greetings Open Salt Collectors*
Welcome to Ohio. We are the Buckeye State! Home
to major universities and professional ball teams, rich in
history as part of the Underground Railroad, and great
salt buying at the many antique stores and malls located
around the area.
Whether you’re arriving by train, plane or
automobile from the east, west, or south but not the north, unless of course you’re
coming by boat via Lake Erie, I would like to say, “Welcome to the North Coast!”
Ohio has been my home since 1982 and I have never been at a loss for something
to do. If you are planning a vacation around the salt convention, then you’ll have a
great time in Cleveland and the surrounding area.
We have a festival for everything! There are many great wineries (just ask
me, I’ve been to one or two!), even a wine train that runs through the Cuyahoga
Valley National Park. Whether you like to hike or just sit by the fire in one of the
lovely park cabins, Salt Fork to name one, you’ll certainly enjoy yourself here in
Ohio.
You can find updated convention information at www.opensalts.info and if you
are a social media fan, on Facebook at Open Salt Collectors of the World.
Thank you for attending the 14th NOSC. If at any time during the convention
you need something, have a question or concern; please don’t hesitate to ask me or
one of the committee members.
So, put on your blue suede shoes and come Rock, Salt and Roll with us!
Sincerely,
Diane Wittik
Chairperson 14th NOSC

14th National Open Salt Collectors
Convention Salt
Designed by
Glass Artist Aaron Buchholz
MOSS is pleased to present for your viewing pleasure the 14th NOSC Convention Salt
beautifully designed, created and signed by Glass Artist Aaron Buchholz of central Ohio. The
hyacinth colored glass was pressed and inflated into an optic mold to create optical ridges
which catch and refract light. This lovely salt sits on a pedestal foot and is approximately 2"
tall and 2.5" wide.
Aaron’s roots are in northern Minnesota where his small-town upbringing instilled in him a
sense of self and determination. After serving in the Marine Corps during the Gulf War, he
returned to Minnesota and earned a degree in photography at Moorhead State University.
It was at Moorhead that he had his first experience with hot glass, and he resolved to pursue
a career in glass artistry.
In search of a community that would meet his needs, he moved to Columbus, Ohio where he
worked for a production studio and began teaching glassblowing classes. After joining a
local network of glass artists he began volunteer work for a glass studio in Newark, Ohio.
This led to an opportunity to build a studio for a local museum where he made artwork,
taught classes and made daily public demonstrations. Eight years later he established his
own studio called St. Louisville Glass (www.stlouisvilleglass.com). His sense of fulfillment
and satisfaction in working with glass has helped him develop a style of his own which he
joyfully shares with us in this exciting example of rhythm and beauty.

REVERSE AUCTION INFORMATION
The Reverse Auction has become a favorite activity for
Convention attendees, and we will again hold a Reverse Auction
at the 2015 Convention. If you recall prior Reverse Auctions,
they are fun, challenging and give you an opportunity to acquire
some wonderful additions to your collection at prices you are
willing to pay.
A reverse auction is an auction that starts at market value and proceeds to lower
the bid. One of two things ends an auction—a bidder raises his/her paddle signaling a
desire to purchase at a certain price, thus closing the bid - OR - the item reaches the
reserve (minimum set by the seller) without a bid, the auction is stopped and the salt is
returned to the seller. If multiple bidders raise their paddles simultaneously, the bidding
is closed to all other bidders on that item and the bid price is raised until only one bidder
prevails. Historically, NOSC attendees look forward to the Reverse Auction and strong
bids are achieved for wonderful items of low, moderate and high values. If the salt sells,
90% of the winning bid goes to the owner and 10% to the convention to offset convention
costs. Salts will also be accepted to be auctioned solely for the benefit of the convention.
A color Reverse Auction Catalog that will include a picture of every salt preregistered will be a part of every Registration Packet. In order to complete this catalog in
time for the Convention, we are asking for pre-registration of auction salts. Please
forward a description and a good quality digital picture of each salt to be auctioned to Al
Diamond per the instructions below. Reverse Auction Submittal forms are included in this
mailing. Salts for the Reverse Auction will be accepted up to the start of the auction but
info and pictures must be submitted to Al Diamond no later than March 30, 2015 for
inclusion in the color catalog. While we welcome salts of all price ranges, we would
especially like to offer salts that are unusual and hard to find.
Procedures for Submitting an Item for the Reverse Auction
1. You may simply complete a Reverse Auction Submittal Form for the item you wish to
enter and email it along with a digital picture to al@agencyconsulting.com and then bring
the item to the convention to be delivered to Al Diamond before the auction.
2. You may send Al the item along with the completed form. He will take the photo for the
catalog, store the item, and bring it along to the NOSC.
3. You may bring items with you to the NOSC for the auction and complete the forms at
Registration. The items will not be included in the catalog, but will still be in the auction.
3. Use the Reverse Auction Submittal Forms in this mailing. If you need more, please feel
free to copy.
