Sharon Cracknell has caught the travel bug and her desire to see the
world whisks her off on some unusual adventures. Her voyage begins
in Indonesia where she is flung headfirst into a full time teaching job
and finds herself caught up between the corrupt police force and the
shady school owner, facing the prospect of five years in an Indonesian
prison. Escaping by the skin of her teeth, her enthusiasm is not dampened as she goes on to climb Kilimanjaro, explore several of the seven
‘Stans’ and climb to Everest base camp. These laugh out loud tales of
her travelling highs and lows will have you guessing at what perilous
escapades are next, but you will be wishing that you were there!
Go into Waterstones Leeds and you’ll find Pringles, Visas and a Glow
in the Dark Jesus featured amongst the likes of Bill Bryson and other
adventurers. Sharon has had features in the Blue Mountain Gazette
and the York Press.
“Full of astute and informed observation as well as being a genuine
pleasure to read. Who would have guessed that the humble
box of Pringles would be such essential currency for the intrepid
traveller?” – Anthony Bundock, Amazon Reviewer

Your Health Is Your Only Wealth is a book about us, as human beings,
taking ownership of our own health.
It explains how every person’s body is actually a kind of musical instrument; each has its particular resonance, as unique as our own DNA.
The practice of Vibrational Sound Healing works to keep us healthy by
re-tuning our bodies.
This book should be read by everyone who is concerned about maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. It is important to understand
that our bodies resonate and vibrate notes and by re-tuning these
notes we can achieve a healthy and ageless body.
Illustrations have been added to bring to life the words, and the heartfelt testimonials give power to this model of healing.
Kimberley is a Reiki Master and Vibrational Sound Healer with over
15 years’ experience working with life force energy and quartz crystal
singing bowls. She works extensively with cancer patients including
paediatrics, with the most incredible results. Her aim is to enlighten
the world to the benefits of VSH. Her wish is to be invited to take part

“Be ready to have your world turned inside-out because, as The
Guys Upstairs demonstrates, greater awareness and understanding
is a catalyst for change.” – DCI Steve Jackson, National Domestic
Abuse Co-ordinator, College of Policing UK
“Amanda Hart vividly demonstrates that abuse has less to do with
what families and coercive and controlling men do to girls and
women than with what they keep them from doing for themselves.
And it shows something else, that the antidote to power over
human beings is the power of self-creation, a power that shines
through every page.” – Evan Stark, PhD, MSW Professor Emeritus,
Rutgers University, Author of Coercive Control (Oxford, 2007)
“Amanda Hart’s The Guys Upstairs is a wonderful example of
trusting, unwavering faith and persistence” – Dr. Dolores Fazzino,

A pragmatic and moving account, of how the author came to terms
with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and learned to live life to the full
once more. The fact that the author was only twenty-one at the time
makes this portrayal all the more poignant.
It is hoped that this book will reach others in similar positions and help
them realise that some of the emotions they feel may be unique to
them but that the frustrations they feel are felt by others and they are
not alone in having these feelings.
“Jack’s book is in turns funny, sad and incredibly moving, but
never short of inspirational - especially looking at the incredible
odds overcome through Jack’s belief and strength (and the
desire to prove some aloof and assumptive onlookers wrong!) ...
I’d recommend this incredible book to anyone.” – Anonymous,

Simon May is one of the most successful and celebrated composers
for television the UK has ever produced. Best known for writing the
EastEnders theme – whose evocative drum beat gives this book its title
– Simon’s long and impressive list of TV themes includes the 1980s
smash-hit drama series Howards’ Way, as well as such perennial
favourites as Holiday and Animal Park. In Doof Doof: My Life in Music,
Simon describes the creation of these works, his lifelong vocation as
a teacher and even his short-lived pop career, with self-deprecating
humour and the sharp eye of the true professional.
With a wealth of music and TV anecdotes from Simon’s more than 40
years in the business, Doof Doof is a vivid and engaging self-portrait of
a successful composer, entrepreneurial businessman, earnest educator and committed family man.
“A really well written book that cannot fail to move you (unless you
are made of stone). A fascinating glimpse into the life of a man
who has brought pleasure to millions, without them probably even
knowing it! If you have ever listened to the theme tune to a soap or
other television programme and tapped your feet to it, then this is
the man that made you do that!” – Rob, Amazon Top 500 Reviewer
Alicia Douvall
Autobiography

 £3.00 9781786123503
In this remarkable book entrepreneur, former model and occasional
reality TV star Alicia Douvall tells the story of a life with more than its
fair share of ups and downs. She opens up about her traumatic experiences with plastic surgery throughout the years and the treacherous
journey towards self-acceptance: from the turmoil of operations going
wrong, her inappropriate relations with one of her surgeons, to how
she’s now reached the point where she acknowledges the mistakes
she made by trying to alter her body so frequently, as well as the
consequences of undergoing such life-changing procedures.
Alicia reflects on her strict upbringing, her disastrously rebellious
teenage years - which included expulsion from school and spending
her young pregnancy moving from hostel to hostel and her often bad
choices in partners, which strangely mirrored the relationships with
her plastic surgeons. Alicia’s story is certainly emotive, yet allows the
readers to experience her positive humour throughout.
“Alicia Douvall is one of the most beautiful people I know! She
has overcome so much throughout her life. I was so inspired by
her silent strength! And I am confident that others will be equally
moved by her and her story! She’s a survivor and an excellent
mother! She’s got a lot to say and Don’t Call Me Ugly says it so
well!” – Perez Hilton, Celebrity Blogger

John Ffitch-Heyes shows how luck, determination, and a gallery of
contacts picked up along the way can make any dream come true –
except, perhaps, multi-millionaire.
Soldier, water ski instructor, actor, entrepreneur, horse trainer, music
promoter, the list of ‘jobs’ fills the pages, and so, too, does the galaxy
of stars; Oliver Reed, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Susan George, James
Hunt. For John Ffitch-Heyes the 1960s were not only fun, they were a
platform for experimentation and honing a gift of the gab that would
see him move from a tough London to a glamorous Mediterranean
with almost intuitive ease.
“Absolutely a lovely read. I was intrigued with such a deprived
background, the author writes how he went throughout his
journey in life. With highs and lows; from not having anything,
an unsupportive father and disruptive upbringing, the author
rose above of what was thrown at him. He has overcome many
challenges and obstacles. He created The Round House back in
the 1960s, rubbing shoulders with superstars, like Jimi Hendrix and
The Who ... A fantastic read for a long train journey. Enjoy!” – Sarah

The ballet: a demanding profession requiring talent and determination. But for Julie Felix, Britain’s first black ballerina, it required more;
it required the strength to climb above prejudice and win. In Brickbats

as she grows from a shy talent in 1960s cold Britain into a swan
dancing in the 1984 Olympiad.
“An incredible read - if you have ever felt you are ‘up against it’, have
been rejected or felt you have been unfairly treated, this book will
show how it’s possible to fight against all the odds and win! Brilliant
writing by John Plimmer, bringing to the surface in all its glory, the

Helen Murray’s Poetic Justice is a wonderful compendium of 11 short
stories, each full of dark twists, dry wit and delicious servings of just
desserts.
“Poetic Justice is a collection of 11 short stories from the Australian
writer Helen Murray. They portray the classic battle between Virtue
and Vice; in other words, 11 different ways Karma bites the wrong
doers with her deadly fangs. These stories showcase Murray’s
great skill of storytelling. But that’s not her only mastery. The term
Poetic Justice is used in pop-culture to mean how the twist of fate
ironically punishes the wrong doers and rewards the righteous
ones. Helen Murray maintains that ironic tone very cleverly and
in most of the stories, the climax is not reached until the very
last sentence. These stories bear the sign of her gifted sense of
humour and reflect her knowledge in various subjects ranging from
art to history. A must have trait of a true writer.” – Muhammad

Thrust into the limelight when he is tipped for future stardom as

Conference. Shortly afterwards, visited by an elderly doctor he has

It says something that ‘When the Boer War began the state had been
shocked to find that as many as 60 per cent of young men were unfit
to fight (i.e. unable to run 100 yards with a rifle).’ Pre-NHS, healthcare
in Britain was a hit and miss affair with quality dependent on your
wealth, and even if you could afford a doctor or a stay in hospital, your
recovery was, to an extent, determined by luck as medical knowledge
was still fairly rudimentary.
In Health and Heartbreak – Healthcare Before the NHS, Jeannie
Duckworth takes the reader into the harrowing world of early 20th
century healthcare in the UK. In many homes even a meagre diet was
unattainable leading to a barrage of diseases and conditions where
people were resigned to illness and death and did not expect any
medical miracles.
The gradual introduction of drugs, hygiene, diet and financially accessible care are outlined in this very informative read.

In Blue Line – Pink Thread Carole Phillips recounts true stories of her
time as a female officer in Bedfordshire Police during the last three
decades of the 20th century, before equal opportunities and political
correctness, the integration of women into front-line services and her
journey through the ranks to Superintendent.
Carole writes with humour and sincerity to deliver numerous fascinating accounts, including those of her time as a detective and as the first
female patrol sergeant.
“Enormously enjoyable and very readable … Carole Phillips
intersperses the autobiographical thread of her story of rising
up through the ranks in the Bedfordshire police force with
very entertaining tales of events in which she took part. Many
are extremely funny, some are poignant and several are quite
shocking. Carole’s story shows how far women’s policing has
travelled since she joined the force, particularly with regard to the
attitudes of her male colleagues. The humour and determination
of her responses to their ‘robust’ behaviour shows her to be a force
of nature. I highly recommend this book as an excellent read.” –

Collins reflects on his tragically
intimate relationship with the ‘Jack
the Ripper’ killings that autumn
and takes a boat to Paris, soon
starting a new career as an investigator. But Whitechapel has a way
of drawing him back to the horrors
he hoped he had left behind… A fascinating variation on the Ripper
legend, with 14 full-page, full colour illustrations by the author.

This spooky tale follows Zackery
Grimm, who is holidaying in
a
Victorian
guesthouse
in
Scarborough with his family. Zak
and his cousin Amelie are immediately captivated by the house, with
its sweeping staircase, mirrors, old
paintings of the Claypole family
and a mysterious girl with copper coloured hair. Will Zak be brave
enough to unlock the secrets of the Claypole family’s past and put
the ghosts to rest once and for all?
This autobiography by British
boxer Kevin ‘The Look’ Lueshing,
now a successful boxing manager
and NSPCC advocate, tells of the
highs and lows of his sporting
career and the terrible psychological scars left by the physical abuse
he suffered as a child.

Penny Meakin, the author of The Meakin Diaries will be appearing on
the Discovery Channel to mark the one hundred year anniversary of
the Battle of the Somme.
The Somme, The First 24 Hours will focus on four members of
the Sheffield City Battalion, one of those being Frank Meakin, whose
memoirs are recorded within The Meakin Diaries.
In 1915 newlywed Frank Meakin signed up to the new Sheffield
City Battalion and joined the fight for King and Country in the First
World War. Although diaries were actually forbidden during active
service, Frank rebelliously kept one from 1915 until he was discharged
in 1918, 22 days before his battalion disbanded.
Through these diaries we can see the horrors of life on the Western
Front first hand; from the Battle of the Somme and its aftermath, to
the horrendous conditions in the trenches and the disillusionment of
these young soldiers. The Meakin Diaries is a vivid and fascinating
insight into the Great War through the eyes of a survivor, brought to life 100 years on.
In The Somme, The First 24 Hours Penny will be interviewed by historian, actor and television presenter
Tony Robinson – best known for his role as Baldrick in Blackadder and presenting the Channel 4 excavation
programme Time Team.
The Somme, The First 24 Hours, produced by Dragonshead Productions, is due to be aired on Friday
1 July 2016.
