June 12, 2016 - All Saints Church
Ordinary Time
June 12, 2016 ✦ Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (C)
2 Sm 12:7–10, 13 ✦ Gal 2:16, 19–21 ✦ Lk 7:36—8:3 or 7:36–50

hen I was seven or eight, I stole a package
of gum from the store. When my mother
found out about it, she dropped what she
was doing and made me take money from my piggy
bank. We then drove back to the store where I had
to bring my money to the cashier and confess that I
had taken the gum. She thanked me for bringing the
money and spoke those sweet words, “I forgive you.”
I never forgot the lesson, and I never stole anything
again. If only that were the only sin I had to worry
about!
Throughout our lives, we become increasingly
aware of the many ways we fall short of the holiness
to which God calls us. Male or female, ordained or
lay, old or young, we often give in to what tempts us
because it looks so good in the moment. Only later
do we realize the harm we have done to ourselves or
someone else. The woman with the jar of ointment
knew only too well that her life was not perfect. But
she also heard Jesus’ invitation to repent and the love
in his message. She laid her life and her service at his
feet and knew the forgiveness of God. The Pharisee,
on the other hand, could not imagine that he needed
forgiveness and so was not open to the transformation
that Jesus offered.
All of us sin and are in need of forgiveness. When
we ask for and accept that forgiveness in our lives, we
are able to give far more than we can imagine. Just ask
Mary, Joanna, Susanna, and all the other women and
men who followed Jesus.

A Word From Pope Francis
“To become merciful, we must first acknowledge that we have
done many things wrong: we are sinners! We need to know
how to say: Lord, I am ashamed of what I have done.”
“Mercy and Judgment,”
Morning Meditation, March 17, 2014

Human Trafficking and the Year of Mercy We are about 6 months into the Year of Divine Mercy, called for by our Holy Father Pope Francis. It’s time for us to discern and pray if we have been merciful to others, and accepting the call of the Pope. Have we been reaching out to those who may be different from us? Have we embraced the hungry in the streets? Have we accepted those who might be of a different faith and belief than ours? Are we acknowledging those who might be caught up in a way of life, that they feel they cannot escape from? I have been in contact with a gentleman named Robert Behr, who works with an organization known as Shared Hope International. Shared Hope International’s goal is to put an end to the human sex trafficking industry. But before we can end it, we must start with creating an awareness of this problem. The Human sex trafficking industry, is a very big problem in our own backyard, right here in Hayward and Alameda County. We don’t think this is our problem, until it affects us personally. Unfortunately, this is all of our problem, as it affects our daughters, sons, friends, and others who are sold into the sex trade, and sometimes at very young ages. On Sunday June 12th, Robert Behr is coming to All Saints to discuss this growing problem with us. He will be doing a presentation in our auditorium after the 9:00 am mass. This will be an opportunity to create an awareness of this quick spreading disease that is destroying lives every day. He will be presenting a video and then have a question and answer session afterwards. We are working in conjunction with Catholic Charities of the East Bay and the Diocesan Office of Life & Justice on this issue, as they are taking a very strong stance in regards to this problem. All are welcome to attend. We are planning a potluck breakfast, so please bring something to share with others. Please pray over this, and see if God is calling you. This is a problem, that affects all of us, and is much bigger than we realize. In this year of Mercy, we are called to answer the message of the Gospel. Blessings, Chuck Kennedy Outreach / Service Commission ASSISTANT CATECHISTS ARE NEEDED FOR NEXT
YEAR HERE AT ALL SAINTS.
Here at All Saints Catholic Church we have a dedicated group of men and women
who teach the Children's Faith Formation Classes immediately after the 9:00 a.m.
Mass. We need Assistant Catechists who can work closely with the lead Catechist
and assist with instruction.
The Lord calls each of us into ministry according to the gifts that He has generously
bestowed on us. If you feel the Lord's call to the ministry of teaching God's little
ones, please contact Angelica Hernandez, Children’s Faith Formation Coordinator
