INTRODUCTION
This brochure is designed to help you and your school achieve significant
impact from School Sport Primary Premium funding. The Humber
Sports Partnership along with the Youth Sports Trust, AfPe and Sport
England have come together to ensure every primary school in the
Humber is offered a range of sporting opportunities which are designed
to improve the quality of the PE curriculum. The service is free to your
school and connects you directly to National Governing Bodies of Sport,
qualified coaching providers and active coaches in your community.
The Humber Sports Partnership is committed to working with School
Sports Partnerships and organised clusters to best support member
schools. However, schools that sit outside of these
arrangements are offered the support of the
Humber Sports Partnership directly.
The Humber Sports Partnership now plays a vital
role in supporting the development of school
sport and particularly ensuring schools, national
governing bodies and communities are linked up
to enjoy “A Sporting Habit for Life”.

Community Games is a
great opportunity for
individuals to bring a
community together to
take part in sporting and
cultural activities
inspired by London 2012.
BASKETBALL
Community Games can
support the celebration of
local or national events, can
be used to raise vital funds
for a community and/or to
raise awareness within a
local community. A
community can be made up
of any local group e.g. a
school, a street, a sports
club etc and the events can
include anything that is of
interest within that
community as long as there
are sporting and cultural
activities and there is an
opening and/or closing
ceremony.

THE HUMBER SPORTS
PARTNERSHIP
The Humber Sports Partnership is part of a network, comprising of 49 local
delivery teams across the country, which are responsible for supporting local
partners to effectively engage local communities to lead healthier and active
lives. Physical Education, school sport and physical activity for children and
young people is seen as a priority.
We encourage collaboration and partnership working to make the best use of
resources. Before making any investment decisions we encourage Headteachers
to seek guidance and work in partnership with national and local agencies. For
example, Children’s Services, Local Authorities, Headteacher’s Networks, School
Sport Partnerships/School Games Organisers and Community Clubs.
Sport England recognise the key role County Sport Partnerships can play and as
such is investing £1.5 million a year of lottery funding to build capacity in each of
the 49 CSPs to strengthen links between Primary Schools and Sports Governing
Bodies. This means primary schools can access this support at no cost.
The Humber Sports Partnership is set to receive a share of this investment
to provide coordination and support services to primary schools which
could include;
• Advice on the use of external suitably qualified and high quality coaches
• Linking schools to community sports clubs
• Identifying and promoting a range of appropriate CPD products and
opportunities linked to national and local programmes
• Support in assessing teachers confidence in delivering PE and identifying a
plan for improvement

SAINSBURY’S
SCHOOL GAMES
The Sainsbury’s School Games is a unique opportunity to inspire millions
of young people across the country to take part in competitive school
sport. In this area the Humber School Games is the largest school sports
competition programme covering the Humber sub-region.
The first events were delivered in July 2012 and the
Games are designed to build on the magic of 2012
and are a real legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games. Since 2012 the Humber School
Games has evolved each year including more sports
and providing more opportunities for schools and
young people to be involved.
In 2013 the Humber School Games saw over 1600
athletes compete, equating to nearly 200 school
teams from across the Humber, take part in the
County wide finals alone. The Humber School Games
finals consisted of 17 different sports across winter
and summer and provided competitive opportunities
for pupils in years 3 to 10. In addition to the athletes
the Games attracted 130 young volunteers who
support the delivery of the event and the running of
the sports. Photos, videos and news stories of the
events are all published on the Humber Sports
Partnership website www.humbersport.com
The Games are made up of four levels of activity:
competition in schools, between schools, at
county/area level and a national finals event. At a
local level the Sainsbury’s School Games are
delivered by the School Games Organisers, with the
Humber Sports Partnership taking a lead to organise
the county rounds working with the Local
Organising Committee and the School Games
Organisers and working in partnership with National
Governing Bodies of Sport, local clubs and coaches
and other key stakeholders.
Nationally the Sainsbury’s School Games is delivered
through a partnership made up of the Government,
specifically the Department for Culture, Media and
Sport (DCMS), supported by the Department for
Education (DofE) and the Department of Health
(DOH), Sport England and the Youth Sports Trust.
Over £128m of Lottery and Government funding is
being invested to support the School Games.
