A DEVOTED father has embarked
on the sporting challenge of a
lifetime to raise funds for the
hospital unit that saved his son’s
life.
Ivan Hollingsworth and his close
friend, TV presenter Ben Shephard,
were waved off from Tynemouth on
their week-long mission to cycle to
Cumbria.
They will then run five marathons to
get back.
The 280-mile challenge will raise
money for the Children’s Heart Unit
Fund at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital,
where medics carried out life-saving
surgery on Ivan’s son, Sebastian.
Sebastian was just 15 hours old
when Ivan and his wife Nadine were
told he suffered from a congenital heart
defect. Just 16 weeks later he underwent
lifesaving surgery.
Ivan’s university mate Ben has joined
him on many fundraising events, and he
was more than happy to do so again.
Scores of supporters turned out to

Ben said: “If I waiver on this journey
I simply think of the brave fight that
Ivan’s son Sebastian has been through –
and still faces. The team at the Chil-
dren’s Heart Unit needs all our support.
They are pioneering and incredibly
brave.”
