A Note to CCKC from Bob and Terry Henn:
Since we will not be able to attend the June and July
meetings, Terry and I wanted to personally thank each and
every one of you who has expressed their sympathies to our
family. We lost our beautiful daughter in law Megan on May
11th and Terry lost her mom on May 18th. The outpouring
of kindness from our CCKC members has been
heartwarming and deeply touching. Thank you all so much
for the cards, Facebook postings, and most importantly, your
prayers that you have offered up for our family. We are
humbled by the love and sympathy you have shown our
family. God bless you all and thank you from the bottom of
our hearts.

Guest Speaker Schedule:
JULY- Hendrick Chevrolet (Robert Weigers & Bernie
Smith). They will be discussing the benefits of our club's
corporate sponsor....buying a Corvette from Hendrick and
getting your Corvette serviced at Hendrick. Plus, club
discounts available to members at Hendrick Chevrolet.
AUGUST-Mid America Motorworks (Mike Yager). MAM is
from Effingham, Illinois. This company carries and supplies
replacement parts for years of Corvette! Mid America
Motorworks will talk about their company, the benefits of
purchasing from them. Plus, they will discuss their HUGE
annual show called Corvette FunFest, which is in midSeptember this year.
SEPTEMBER-NCRS (Harry Ledgerwood). Harry is the
President of the Kansas City chapter of the National
Corvette Restorer's Society. He will be giving a presentation
about what the NCRS means to a Corvette owner, how you
can join and how being a member of both the CCKC and the
NCRS is beneficial.
OCTOBER-to be determined. We are working on getting
someone from the National Corvette Museum to come to
speak.
June Activities:
Hendrick Corvette Show
Seventy-nine Corvettes were registered for the 2015
Hendrick show on June 5th and the weather was close to
perfect. Forty-four of the registered cars belonged to CCKC
members with the balance representing several other clubs
and non-affiliated owners. Even with registration fees
dropped $5 from 2015 registration rates net income was
slightly above 2015 levels due to effective
cost control and proceeds from the silent
auction and bake sale. Thanks to Chuck
Levenson for coordinating the show and
all of the volunteers that helped.

Lakeview Village Cruise
Barb Kerns coordinated a Flag Day cruise for Lakeview
Village and was pleased that 14 Corvettes showed. Dinner
was served and Fox 4 News covered portions of the event.
Thanks to all that participated.
City Market Cruise
Father’s Day turned out to be a fun day for CCKC members
that participated in this Cruise on June 19th! Ten cars
registered for the event and cruised to the Farmer’s Market
in Downtown Kansas City. Approximately 19 people
attended the event coordinated by Steve Garret and
included a couple of new members! We were able to set up
our Corvettes in the courtyard area of the Farmer’s Market.
It was a great turnout for a Father’s Day Sunday and
everyone that attended the event had a great time. We
might do this again!
Culver’s Cruise
The second Culver’s Cruise of 2016 took place on Tuesday.
June 28th with 18 Corvettes and 30 people in attendance
including a new member with his NCRS certified 69.

June Minutes:
On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 07:00 PM, the CCKC
meeting held at Uncle Buck’s/Bass Pro was called to order
by President Jim Cahill. There were approximately 62
people in attendance. Hendrick was not represented. Jim
Cahill reported there were 80-cars at the club show at
Hendrick; he thanked Chuck Levenson for all of his hard
work in putting the show together. Jim reminded all that he
was selling tickets for last years’ club NCM banner; if
interested see Jim.
Vice-President: Steve Garrett explained the evening’s raffle
items; donations were received from Hendrick and Jim
Cahill. We raised $137 from the raffle. Steve also gave us a
preview of the speakers he has arranged for upcoming club
meetings: Robert Wiegers, Sales Manager of Hendrick
Chevrolet-July club meeting; Mike Yager of Mid America
Motorworks-August club meeting; and Harry Ledgerwood of
NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society)-September
club meeting. Steve introduced this month’s guest speaker,
Rob Howard, President of KC Auto Gifts & Accessories. Rob
and his wife Laura are the owners; Rob spoke to us about
his business, its history, and how he started his business.
Membership: Chris Shinners reminded those present she
has several unclaimed name badges, please see Chris for
your name badge. Chris announced there were five couples
joining CCKC in the past week; she introduced the new
members: Kal & Makaila Dulke, Raymond Gierstikas &
Lucinda Franke, Robert & Stefanie Culley, and Bill & Debbie
Santa Maria. Chris explained the Executive Committee was
working on three initiatives as a result of the feedback from
the club survey. Those initiatives were: 1) secure a
coordinators for club volunteers 2)
determine and coordinate fun activities for
the women of the club 3) spotlight a club
member at the meetings. Chris advised
CCKC membership is currently at 200+.
Secretary: Carol Schwartz obtained approval of the May
2016 meeting minutes with the following revision from what
was published in the Hi Beams; December CCKC Gala
Event; the new Social Chairperson is Marie Burns, assisted
by Eileen Benskin, Linda Downing, and Chris Shinners.
Also, Barb Kearns’ former employer/law firm donated one
pass to the Speedway which was raffled at the meeting.
Carol Schwartz also announced her resignation as
Secretary of CCKC due to family obligations.
Treasurer: John Southerland presented the current financial
report including a summary of receipts and disbursements
for the month. He reported 79 people registered for the
Hendrick show (82 registered in 2015). Of the 79 registrants,
44 were CCKC members. Guest registrants were from
KCCA, S. Central Nebraska, Touch of Glass, NCRS,
Leavenworth, St. Joseph, and several without any club
affiliation who were provided CCKC membership
information. John reported registration income from the
Hendrick show was less than 2015 primarily because the
2016 entry fee was $5 per car lower than the 2015
registration fee. Expenses were well controlled by Chuck
Levenson with a resulting net club income slightly in excess
of the 2015 Hendrick show. CCKC’s net charity income
exceeded that of 2015 due to a successful Silent Auction
and Bake Sale. Our charity income at the present time
exceeds $2000; it includes proceeds from the club’s monthly
raffle, special Speedway raffle, and the 50/50 raffle.

Ongoing charity items include NCM raffle ticket sales and
the cruise raffle tickets. The financial report was approved.
Jim Cahill reported we raised money from the ADA
Fundraising and Auction items but it was not as successful
in comparison to the Zona Rosa show as there were too
many large ticket items. Jim will have items from ADA
fundraising at the Zona Rosa show and has requested items
that should generate interest.
NCM (National Corvette Museum): Ambassador Adam
Hoehn told us a story of a visitor to the museum which
portrayed the passion of those employed at the museum.
The visitor was queried over and over about his car and
what could be improved; he ultimately reported a noise in
the roof area which was repaired that day via a
demonstration at the museum. Adam reported the club flag
was purchased and should be on display.
Activities: Kathy Denning summarized the Lakeville Village
Cruise on June 14; there were 14 cars. She thanked Barb
Kearns, who reported the club participants to the event were
on Fox 4 News the night of the event.

July 9: COR show, flyers were on the
table. Joe Campbell announced the show
is for all types of cars.
July 15-17-The Great Des Moines
Escape: coordinated by Arnie & Cynthia Sdano; flyers/signup sheet was on the table.
July 24: T-Bones game and car show coordinated by Todd
Ford. A flyer is on the website
July 28: Culver’s Cruise
Upcoming Events/August:
August 21: Cruise to the K-CANCELED! Linda Downing
announced the Royals rules for this year’s “Royals/Cruise to
the K” states “all vehicles must be model year 2000 or older
to participate.” As many in CCKC, including herself would
not be able to participate in the car show/ special ticket
package prices, Linda will not be coordinating this event.
August 26 & 27: 20th Annual Summers End Corvette Show,
Rogers, AR. Joe Campbell provided preliminary details; a
sign-up sheet and flyers were on the table.

September 10: Zona Rosa club sponsored car show
Old Business: Lloyd LaTurner won “Best of Show” at the
Hendrick show; several people questioned why he did not
also receive the “Best in Class” award? Chuck Levenson
explained he didn’t want to give out 2 trophies to the same
person.
New Business: Gwyn Hill announced they are collecting old
T-shirts to assist St. Michael’s Veterans in making pull toys
to benefit WaySide Waifs.

Julie Dailey was nominated and accepted the Officer
position of Secretary of CCKC, all members present
approved.
Jeff Moss reminded all that if you change your email or want
your anniversary or birthday published you need to notify
Chris Shinners, Membership Chairperson. Jeff updates Hi
Beams and mailing lists using the master list maintained by
Chris.

Tech Talk/News – Jeff Moss:
A member sent me a note about a
foaming sprayer for car washing that cost
significantly less than what you would pay
for a foaming sprayer from one of the
recognized detailing leaders (about $20.00 to $30.00
depending on where you shop vs. $99.99 from a leading
detailing company). Seemed like a good deal, maybe too
good so I did a little research via product reviews and as is
often the case it appears you get what you pay for. The
“economy” option was often reported to leak and, more
importantly, multiple reviews indicated it had to be filled
twice to wash one vehicle whereas the high dollar option
only required 2 ounces of soap. Given the cost of a decent
car wash detergent the “economy” option may prove to be a
false economy.

All car collector clubs are invited to CommunityAmerica Ballpark to attend Car Show Night!
Each collector will be able to participate in a pre-game parade around the warning track.
Collectors participating in the pre-game parade will drive down the outfield tunnel and around the warning track. From
there, you will park your vehicle in the parking lot of CommunityAmerica Ballpark and enjoy the game!
Note: If participating in the pre-game parade, please arrive at the clubhouse (locaed off of Sunflower Ln, between
Village West Pkwy and State Ave) no later than 12:10 p.m.

Judging Guidelines
This is a judged show. You will be judged on how clean your car is, inside and out. Your car
will not be compared to the car next to you.
This year we are awarding First, Second and Third Place awards, therefore judging will be more
stringent in all areas.
When your car is ready to be judged, place the “Ready to be Judged” sheet on the dash and
open the driver’s and passenger’s windows. Put COMPLETED judging sheet on driver’s seat.
Hood MUST be open or 25 points will be deducted
Hatch/Trunk (where applicable) MUST be open or 2 points will be deducted
Judges will open driver’s side door if not already open/ajar.
The following is how your car will be judged:
Exterior:
Cleanliness (dirt, dust, bugs, tar, wax residue) Windshield, mirrors and back glass (free of
smudges). Exhaust Tips. No deduction for paint chips or chips in windshield.
Wheels & Tires:
Cleanliness of wheels (free of dust, dirt, smudges, road tar).
Cleanliness of tires (reasonably clean, free of blemishes, free of stones).
Cleanliness of wheel wells (free of dirt, sand, gravel).
Interior:
Cleanliness of general interior (free of dirt, sand, debris).
Floor Mats (free of dirt, sand, debris).
Cleanliness of seats, dash, visors (free of dirt and dust, reasonably maintained).
Windshield, rear view mirror, back glass (free of smudges).
Engine:
Cleanliness of engine (free of oil, dirt, sand, smudges, dull or unpolished trim work).
Cleanliness of engine compartment (free of oil, dirt, smudges).
Cleanliness of frame rails (free of sand, rock, dirt).
Cleanliness of electrical harnesses and hoses (free of oil, dirt, smudges).

corvette shows in the Midwest. It’s only about 200 miles south of KC on
Highway 49 ( was Highway 71). Our host hotel is the Holiday Inn &

Enjoy a leisurely drive to Arkansas, with a stop at the famous Macadooles.
Spend a laid back relaxing Friday afternoon with over 150 corvette
enthusiasts, enjoy a cookout, share a few war stories, relax with the live
entertainment and detail your corvette or enjoy one of the many tours in the
area including the world famous Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
Saturday August 27th display your corvette at the show in Pinnacle Hills
Mall in Rogers (14 classes), ladies enjoy the fashion show at Dillard’s then
cap off the evening with the award banquet and dance with the Mike
