odd years of racing; both being accomplished drivers in their own
right. Mike is a one time NZ1, Rob in his shadow but boasting a few
podiums along the way in NZ and offshore. Together or individually
we have raced in all four continents and remain stalwart supporters of
this beloved sport.
Born in the sea to play in the rivers we have owned, worked, played in,
crashed, and sunk more jet boats than any other family known to NZ.
Mike is one of NZ's most accomplished rock lobster fisherman. Rob is
predominantly involved in Greenshell Mussel Production. On the home
rivers we still hold the odd record and can give any team a stir up on
the right day. We readily concede the turbines in the hands of the
young turks are bloody hard to pin a tail on now, but they all know to
keep looking over their shoulder as the Pooleys are never too far
away.
Rob, Mike, and families have a long standing relationship with Canada
either racing or in support, and have formed life long relationships with
several very special people in your country. Why wouldn't we? Coming
from strong Irish stock themselves who know to put baileys in your
coffee in the morning!!!
It is because of these special relationships we are able to race this
year with a borrowed boat and a borrowed truck. How lucky are we.
Special thanks to Chad Burns for these and to Paddy for support.
"We look forward to a hard fought, safe and enjoyable hit up with all
you guys, good luck, go hard, stay safe and may the best man win."
~ Rob and Mike

Recognizing History
The McGregor’s
2015
Memories of 35 years of Jet River Racing
In 1981 the Great Canadian Marathon Race started in Whitecourt, Alberta. Brian watched the start of this race, went
home and told his wife Lois, “I can build a boat & motor which will beat all those boats”. After the race, he sold his
1965 Corvette and bought a boat with a broken 427 engine, naming the boat Magoo II.
The next year, 1982, the McGregor’s helped organize the Great Canadian Marathon and started a River Jet
Boat legacy that will last numerous life times.
Besides racing and accomplishing many podium finishes Brian has held every position from Chairing races,
organising Canadian, and World events to Race Captain; along with positions in the Canadian Boating Federation,
Western Zone, UIM and too many more to list. In 1995 The Grande Prairie boat launch was renamed Magoo’s
Landing after Brian’s race boats.
Lois McGregor has done everything from organizing, recorded as secretary, accounting as treasurer, been
part of the flagging crew, taken care of race registration, to many jobs to list. She has supported her family and the
sport of Jet River Racing for many years.
2000 found Paula McGregor navigating with her Dad in a sprint boat, Miss Magoo. That same year Corry
McGregor was a first time race flagger, and has since navigated for Dale Whiteside. In 2003 son, Michael McGregor,
began racing. In 2013 Paula was honored by the Western Zone Racing Association for 25 years on the start line
flagging and timing. As well as being the Chief Scorer for the 2015 World jet Boat championship, she also navigated
for Tim Greber in St. Maries, ID for a first place finish.
2014 Brian was inducted into the Canadian Jet Boat Hall of Fame. He had this to say in conclusion to his
spectacular write up, “I have always loved racing high speed boats, however, over the years I have put the
organization of the races ahead of my actual racing of the boats. After the 2015 World Race, I am planning on
retiring from the organization of jet river races. However, my involvement with the CBF & UIM who’s to say when
that retirement will happen!!!”
Thank you to the McGregor’s
