Botswana
Nature’s magnificent pageantry of life
Botswana is well known for having some of the best wilderness and wildlife
areas on the African continent. With its vast array of deserts, grasslands and
wetlands, Botswana encompasses the rich diversity and intense beauty of the
African landscape. Deep within the Kalahari Basin lies the jewel of the desert –
the Okavango Delta. Brimming with wildlife, the Okavango Delta is the largest
inland delta in the world and is home to some of the most diverse ecosystems on
the continent.
Partake in the numerous activities the Delta has to offer like bird watching, game
viewing, mokoro activities, quad biking and indulge in spectacular photography.
In addition to the Delta and desert areas, there are grasslands and savannas,
where Blue Wildebeest, antelopes, and other mammals and birds are found.
Northern Botswana has one of the few remaining populations of the endangered
African Wild Dog. From the Okavango Delta, to the Chobe National Park, Moremi
Game Reserve and the Linyanti Swamps, experience the abundance of fauna and
flora Botswana has to offer.
Travel inland across the vast expanse of the Makgadikgadi Saltpans, to the
largest game reserve in Southern Africa, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
The Kalahari is home to a large diversity of animals and landscapes. Due to its
Did you know
Present-day Botswana (former Bechuanaland) was a protectorate
under the United Kingdom from 1886 to 1966, when it became
an independent nation within the Commonwealth. In the
subsequent decades, inspired by Great Britain and the United
States of America, Botswana became a democratic society,
making it Africa’s best democracy.
Since the 1970’s, it is home to one of the world’s most peaceful
societies. No other place in the Third World has had a democratic
system comparable to Botswana. Contrary to most nations in the
world, this African nation has not had coups d’ etat, guerrillas,
warlords, military dictatorships, and Marxist revolutions.

Discover the fossilised rivers in Deception Valley and explore the Kalahari Basin which consists of sediments that have been deposited on Bedrock
over thousands of years. Bushmen, called San, have inhabited the Kalahari for thousands of years and date back as far as the Stone Age. As a
country renowned for its assorted areas of wildlife habitat, delve deep into the heart of Botswana with the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Tuli Block and
Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park. The Tuli Block boasts a unique and picturesque place unlike anywhere else in Botswana. Often referred to as
the Hardveld because of the rocky outcrops and the abundance of stones and pebbles of all shapes and sizes, it is an African wonderland that must
be explored.
The red sand dunes, sparse vegetation and the dry riverbeds of the Nossob and Auob in Kgalagadi show antelope and predator species off to
spectacular advantage and provide excellent photographic opportunities. With a variety of national parks and game reserves, a heritage site of
our oldest ancestors and a wealth of activities to choose from, Botswana is a destination ideal for game viewing, honeymooning, family trips, bird
watching and so much more. With the growing cultural tourism options, discover the people of Botswana, visit their villages and experience firsthand their rich cultural heritage.

Savute Safari Lodge completed a full refurnishing in 2014. Located on the banks of the fabled Savute Channel,

that water on the environment, makes Savute one of the most incredible game viewing areas within Botswana.
12 Ensuite safari suites with facilities, and lounge, bar, dining room and deck with expansive channel views

Savuti | Game Lodge
In the heart of the Chobe National Park, sometimes referred to as the elephant capital of the world, is the
Savute - an area that personifies the eternal contrast of Africa. Perched on the banks of the now flowing
Savute Channel, the Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge offers a spectacular birds eye view of elephant in their
natural habitat. The Savute Channel, one of the greatest mysteries and fascinations of Northern Botswana,
is flowing again after nearly 30 years of lying dormant. The Savute is a dramatic area which is home to high
concentrations of elephant and lions. Prides up to 40 strong are not uncommon, as are sighting of all the other
major predators; the endangered wild dog, leopard, cheetah and the hyena. Savute is also renowned for its
excellent birding during the summer months (December through March), as well as being home to some very
rare rock paintings drawn by the early San Bushmen, who once inhabited the region.

Zarafa Camp
HIGHLIGHTS
Selinda Reserve | Wilderness Camp
Zarafa Camp, located in the 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve is synonymous with exclusivity and perfection. The
spirit comes from Dereck and Beverly Joubert, who together designed Zarafa to incorporate all the components
of what they envisioned as the ‘perfect’ safari camp. It embodies authenticity, luxury and simplicity to create
a camp that has been clearly considered, and thoughtfully planned to be as environmentally sensitive
as possible, the culmination of years of safari experience. Zarafa Camp sits on an island in the floodplains
of southern shores of the Zibadianja Lagoon, which is the source of the Savute Channel. Positioned in the
extreme Eastern side of the Selinda Reserve, its location is in prime wildlife territory. Each of the camp’s 4
immense tented suites are raised up on wooden decking and shaded by a canopy of African ebony and red

viewing wildlife with hardly a moment in camp where there isn’t an animal in sight. Selinda Spillway weaves
east, linking the Okavango Delta in the south with the Linyanti water systems in the east. Selinda Reserve is

diversity of species, from resident prides of lion to huge herds of elephant and packs of wild dog. Exploration

Kabbo Houseboat

Okavango Delta | Houseboats
The Kabbo Houseboat, operates in the ‘Panhandle’ area of the Okavango Delta in Northern Botswana, which

lines which ensure that some 11 billion cubic meters of water form a single, broad channel, over a 100 meters
wide and a 100 kilometres long, winding along the floodplain in a series of exaggerated S-bends and oxbow
lakes. Kabbo floats along this water ribbon-offering guests the opportunity of spending time on this water
wilderness, experiencing the solitude of this beautiful river. Consisting of 2 decks- the lower deck has 8 ensuite cabins with sliding glass doors opening on to the pristine wilderness that is the Okavango Delta.

Victoria Falls
Zimbabwe
Journey to a land of intrigue and natural beauty
Zimbabwe remains one of the most intriguing destinations in the world. The
country offers a large variety of scenery, one of the African continent’s finest,
and largest concentrations of wildlife and a perfect climate with an average of
7 hours of sunshine daily throughout the year. Also home to the one of the 7
natural wonders of the world, the magnificent Victoria Falls, this avalanche of
water beckons invitingly in the heat of the African sun.
Enjoy the finest views atop the infamous Knife-edge Bridge or walk through
the Rain Forest that grows within the billowing spray. Wonderful activities
surround this spectacle, from bungee jumping and micro-lighting to white water
rafting, canoeing and river cruises. Remarkably well preserved, the falls and its
surrounding areas have been declared national parks and a World Heritage Site.
As the country with the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Southern Africa,
Zimbabwe’s hundreds of San rock paintings and ancient ruins from the Iron
Age satisfy the most avid history connoisseurs. Blessed with fertile soil, mineral
wealth and breath-taking scenery, Zimbabwe has two major rivers which form its
Northern and Southern borders. The Great Zambesi River cuts across the North
and the Limpopo River forms the Southern border.
Did you know
Zimbabwe has a magic that has puzzled people for centuries,
many of them famous, like David Livingstone the explorer, they
felt compelled to come back again and again, each time the
love becoming deeper than before.
Great Zimbabwe Ruins is one of sub-Saharan Africa’s most
important and largest stone ruins. Designated a World Heritage
Site in 1986, the large towers and structures were built out of
millions of stones balanced perfectly on top of one another
without the aid of mortar.
Zimbabwe was formerly known as Southern Rhodesia, Rhodesia
and Zimbabwe Rhodesia. The present name, Zimbabwe was
derived from the 11th century city, The Great Zimbabwe and
“Dzimba dza mabwe”, which means “great houses of stone” in
the Shona language.

Zambia
A land of African myth and legend
Blessed with one of the seven natural wonders of the world and an abundance
of water, Zambia is hardly a land-locked country. Aside from the magnificent
Victoria Falls, Zambia is home to 17 other glorious waterfalls and 5 massive lakes
which flow and shimmer. Tiger and fly fishing, kayaking, elephant back trails
and bird watching are just some of the fantastic activities that have travellers
returning time and time again.
The Zambezi is Africa’s fourth largest river system after the Nile, Zaire and
Niger Rivers. It runs through six countries on its journey from central Africa to
the Indian Ocean. Its power has carved the spectacular Victoria Falls and the
zigzagging Batoka Gorge. Between the 2 great dams of the Zambezi, Kariba and
Cahora Bassa, lies an area known as the Zambezi Valley. Acacia-chocked, reedfringed islands braid the river into twisting channels, often blocked by snorting
hippo, wildlife and bird life.
The Valley’s beauty has attracted tourists from all over the world and provides
great opportunities for unprecedented game viewing and walking safaris.
Hippopotamus, crocodiles, elephants and lions are some examples of wildlife
you will find along various parts of the Zambezi River.
Did you know
Zambia is blessed with abundant water resources with over a
third of all the water in Southern Africa. 15 Stunning waterfalls
are found in the Northern Province alone.
More than two million years ago, the Upper Zambezi river used
to flow South through what is now the Makgadikgadi Pan to the
Limpopo River. The land around the pan experienced tectonic
uplift (perhaps as part of the African superswell) and a large lake
formed, and extended East.
Kasanka is infamous for the largest bat migration in the world.
Zambia also has the second largest Wildebeest migration in
Africa across Liuwa Plain National Park.

Zambia, it divides, one arm to the East encompasses Lake Malawi and the Western arm becomes the Luangwa Valley, which stretches some seven
hundred kilometres. The world’s largest concentration of hippos lives in the Luangwa Valley.
The Valley includes the South Luangwa National Park, the North Laungwa National Park, Lukusuzi National Park and Luambe National Park and is
one of Africa’s prime wildlife sanctuaries. Animals commonly seen include elephants, leopards, lions, buffalo, cheetah and more than 400 species

Norman Carr Safaris
HIGHLIGHTS
South Luangwa | Game Lodge
Back in the 1950’s a young game ranger called Norman Carr started walking safaris. His aim was to emulate
the traditional safari adventure of tracking big game on foot in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley, one of Africa’s last
havens of un-spoilt wilderness and home to some of the continent’s greatest concentrations of game. His
dream was to share this unique place and to secure its future by enabling the local people to benefit from
conserving it’s wildlife and infinitely varied habitats, we are proud to continue in his footsteps. Over 50 years
on, we are still passionate about sharing the thrill of tracking lions through early morning mists, the delight in
learning something new on every walk or game-drive and the adventure of walking from camp to camp the
original safari way. Become part of the legend and return to the wild with Norman Carr Safaris at Luwi, Nsolo,
Kakuli, Mchenja, Kapani Lodge or brand new Chinzombo.

Mozambique
A land of resilience and feral splendour
Mozambique offers a vast and varied holiday experience with its magnificent
collection of tropical islands. It is the perfect destination for a beach holiday and
an ideal place to relax after an African Safari. South of Pemba lies the unexplored
Island of Mozambique – the country’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Pemba is a port city in Mozambique renowned for its Portuguese colonial
architecture. In the centre of Pemba, there is an authentic local market where
arts and crafts, as well as traditional silverware can be bought.
A destination widely lauded as one of the best destinations in the world for scuba
diving and game fishing and, with its colourful and well-preserved coral reefs and
clear, warm waters it attracts snorkelers and honeymooners alike.
With its pristine coastline of long white sand beaches, a collection of the most
tranquil tropical Indian Ocean Islands with palm tree studded white sandy
beaches and warm turquoise waters, Mozambique is definitely the place to go
for an exclusive beach holiday to remember.
Did you know
Portuguese is the official language in the country of
Mozambique. However, Swahili, Sena and Makhuwa are spoken
commonly across the length and breadth of the country.
It also interesting to note, that Mozambique Island, a
comparatively small island off the coast of Mozambique, is a
World Heritage Site.
Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, was previously named
Lourenço Marques after a Portuguese navigator. Maputo is
nicknamed “The City of Acacias” and “The Pearl of the Indian
Ocean”. Located 90 miles north of the border with South
Africa, it is Mozambique’s major Indian Ocean port.

Burchells Zebra stallions, Etosha Natinoal Park
Namibia
The land of enduring tribes and timeless tradition
Home to one of the world’s wildest coastlines, Namibia borders the South
Atlantic Ocean between Angola and South Africa. Boasting one of the greatest
wildlife populations in the world, some species are truly unique, many are rare,
and a few whose lineage goes back long before the first ancestors of mankind
evolved.
In the Etosha National Park, huge herds of springbok, gemsbok, zebra, and blue
wildebeest, as well as smaller numbers of red hartebeest, Bruchell’s zebra, lion,
cheetah and the elusive leopard gather at waterholes and are spotted easily
against the stark white background of immense salt pans.
The Central Plateau which is home to the highest point in Namibia, runs from
North to South and is bordered by the Skeleton Coast to the Northwest, the
Namib Desert and its coastal plains to the Southwest, the Orange River to the
South, and the Kalahari Desert to the East.
The Kalahari, while popularly known as a desert, has a variety of localised
environments, including some luxuriant and technically non-desert areas. One
of these, known as the Succulent Karoo, is home to over 5,000 species of plants,
nearly half of them endemic.
Did you know
The country, known as the “Gem of Africa”, is a unique place
for eco-tourists. Much of Namibia is as it was centuries ago.
Due to this, it has a host of natural wonders and amazing
places. From one of the world’s biggest deserts and national
parks to tropical forests and savannahs with one of Africa’s
highest concentration of wild animals, including lions, zebras,
elephants, rhinoceros, hyenas, and marine mammals.
The Namib Desert, at 80 million years, is the world’s oldest
desert. Namib means “open space”.
Namibia is the second least densely populated country on
earth, after Mongolia which is also a vast country, there are just
over two million people living in a country which is half the size
of Alaska.

A desert country of panoramic beauty, rich in culture
The landscape is Namibia’s defining asset and the Coastal Desert is one of the oldest deserts in the world. Its magnificent sand dunes, created by
the strong onshore winds, are the highest in the world. The Fish River Canyon is ideal for hiking.
Swakopmund is Namibia’s playground and offers quad biking, sand-boarding, sand-skiing, parasailing and a variety of other activities, while there
travel to Walvis Bay and enjoy dolphin cruises, lagoon and kayak tours. Encounter the ancient Himba people and learn about the Himba tradition,
their lifestyle and watch in awe as they perform the traditional Himba dance called Ondjongo.
The enduring and beautiful Twyfelfontein, Namibia’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an art gallery carved into red rock by ancient Bushmen dating
back to pre-historic times. Visit the Ghost town of Kolmanskop in the Namib Desert, named after a transport driver named Johnny Coleman who,
during a sand storm, abandoned his ox wagon on a small incline opposite the settlement. Once a small but very rich mining village, it is now a
popular attraction for travellers.

Mount Kilimanjaro
East Africa
A country distinct in every sense
Kenya, the land of the classic safaris, luxurious lodges and the greatest wildlife
spectacle on earth. Every year, almost two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle
leave the Southern Serengeti in May, arriving in the Masai Mara from late June.
The Masai Mara together with Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks and the Chyulu
Hills, offer fantastic all-year-round game viewing. Lake Naivasha is a popular
stopover offering glorious colonial houses, a wildlife sanctuary on Crescent
Island and the Hell’s Gate National Park, where blasts of steam issuing from the
volcanic rock give the park its name.
Tanzania is famous for being one of the best wildlife destinations in the world.
The country’s rivers and lakes contain huge populations of hippo and crocodile
and can be tinged pink with hundreds of flamingos, and high concentrations
of elephant and giraffe. Bordered by idyllic beaches, Tanzania is also home to
Mount Kilimanjaro, and Lake Tanganyika.
The Mahale Mountains offer an exclusive base to observe chimpanzees at close
quarters in their natural habitat. Ngorongoro Crater is at the centre of an 8 000
km2 conservation area, which includes the Olduvai Gorge also known as ‘The
Cradle of Mankind’.
Did you know
Forty ethnic groups, including Kikuyu farmers and Maasai
cattle herders, crowd the countryside, still home to threequarters of Kenya’s people.
Kenya is one of Africa’s major safari destinations and shares
Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest fresh water lake, with
Tanzania and Uganda.
Kenya is named after Mt Kenya, the tallest mountain in the
country (5,199 metres, 17,057 feet) and gained independence
from the United Kingdom in 1963.
In terms of sports, Kenya is perhaps best known for its middle
distance and long distance runners, with the country frequently
producing Olympic champions.
