INSIDE THIS ISSUE
August in southern California can be beautiful,
yet brutally hot! However, the Janet Goeske
Center is considered one of the “coolest” places
in town! Remember… we are designated as a
“Cool Center” and we encourage everyone to
come and join us for relief from the heat. Not
only are we a “Cool Center”, but we also have
lots of planned activities for you and your
friends! Be sure to read the Pacesetter from cover
to cover so you don’t miss out on any of our great
offerings!
Did you hear about the success of our annual
Independence Day BBQ? I hope you all had the
opportunity to join us because if you missed it,
you missed a good time, great food, and patriotic
singing by our fabulous Goeske Choir. Thank
you to all of the countless volunteers, staff, and
board members who made this event such a
success; together, we served over 400 seniors a
wonderful BBQ feast!
Do you want to get-a-way? Check out the trips
through our Travel Department! Whether it be a
day trip or more, we plan our trips for your
entertainment and they are reasonably priced. So
talk to one of the Travel volunteers and book
your getaway soon!
Have you ever thought of volunteering and did
not know how you could be of service? A
wonderful Volunteer OPPORTUNITY is now
ready for you to explore!
1. Do you have 2 hours per month to
volunteer?
IF you answered YES to this question and
can answer YES to ANY one (1) of the
questions listed below we would LOVE
to hear from YOU!
 Do you have the ability to teach/train
other seniors on various devices such as
an IPad, tablet or smart phone?
 Do
you
SKYPE
with
your
children/grandchildren/family members
out of the area and would be willing to
 Do you have a Facebook account (or use
other social media to stay connected with
friends & family) and may be willing to
share your knowledge of social media in
a small group learning exchange?
 Are you a “basic computer friendly
senior” who would like to share basic
computer knowledge with others to make
their life rich through the use of the
internet, email communications and/or
basic computer software tools?
 Are you bi-lingual English/Spanish and
can assist with teaching/training others on
tech savvy ideas such as those listed
above?
Remember you only need to answer at least ONE
of the questions listed above AND be willing to
provide 2 hours per month to enrich the lives and
connectivity for all seniors!
If you would like to further explore this volunteer
opportunity, please call or email Kate! Many
thanks for your consideration!
The Goeske Center staff wants you to enjoy a
healthy and happy summer! Please drink plenty
of water and liquids to stay hydrated and plan to
visit us as often as you wish!
Warm regards,
Judith
