If you don’t fancy painting freehand, don’t worry there are some iconic, new decorating sponges cut to make a professional finish nice and easy – including an Olympic cup, bicycle, football, an Olympic torch and rings, plus, of course, several famous London landmarks including St Paul’s, a London Bus and the London Eye. The studio will be adorned with the London 2012 theme and there will be pottery examples out on display to spark your imagination and help get you started. Studio fee £5.50 per person (not per item) covers all materials, demonstration, plus glazing and firing of all items decorated that session. Choose from an extensive range of blank pottery, which includes our own cream ware blanks, as well as Emma Bridgewater. The Gift Barn will be stocked with plenty of pocket money toys over the summer holidays for the children as well as the usual Emma Bridgewater pottery, gifts and cards, and selection of traditional toys and games. Mottistone Common Nightjar Walk: Join the NT ranger for this easy twilight stroll listening to and looking for the nightjars that live on the common. Bring binoculars if you have them and a torch. The walk is along an easy gravel track with a gentle ascent and is suitable for allterrain wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Sorry no dogs. Booking not required. Sandcastle and sand sculpture competition. Come and join in with this fun activity organised by the NT. Will yours be the last castle standing or the best sand sculpture? Guided tour of Bembridge Fort. Part of the fort is occupied by a factory and the remainder is in a derelict condition, being gradually restored by volunteers. The fort is not open to visitors but access is possible for adults and children aged 10 and over, on a guided tour which last approx 1.5 hours. In the evening we will be setting a light trap and looking for moths around the garden on this Wildzone activity for accompanied children. Visit their website www.dinosaurisle.com call them on 01983 404344 or call into the museum shop to book a place on the walks taking place at Yaverland, Shanklin, Brook or Compton Bay. There will also be a Landscape Geology and Fossil walk, suitable for Adults and Teenagers which will run from Ventnor Botanic Gardens to the Coastal Centre and back. To look at the way the moving geology at Ventnor has affected the shape of the gound, influenced coastal defences and buildings, plants and lizards, and continues to produce cracks in roads and walls. We will look for ancient fossils in the large blocks of Carboniferous limestone used to protect the base of the cliffs and sea-walls. Return to the Palm Court Cafe for optional lunch. Suitable for families and children visiting the site. The mosaics are made from 1cm and 2cm colourful glass tiles on a 10cm or 15cm ceramic tile. The family activities will run from 10am to 4pm each day. There will be a member of Brading Roman Villa staff on duty along with volunteers.
