CLUB INFO
Promoting the Club!
Derrick Barnett
General Manager
This year, as BallenIsles’ Members journey
far and wide enjoying their usual summertime
activities, they may be surprised to see that the
BallenIsles brand has followed them on their
travels.A continued dedication to Club marketing efforts includes an
integrated marketing plan with greater reach and market penetration
than ever before. The cable TV advertising that has already shown
measurable success in local south Florida markets will shift to select
markets in the northeast, with placement scheduled during popular
televised tennis and golf events.Wherever you are in the world, you
may notice a BallenIsles image advertisement, digital banner or
video promotion embedded in targeted websites as you are browsing the internet. Some print advertising is planned for Met Golfer
and Executive Golfer, in addition to the Troon Golf & Travel magazine. BallenIsles also benefits from listings in several Troon marketing
vehicles and the Troon Privé Privilege reciprocal golf program further extends the reach of the Club brand to a worldwide luxury
lifestyle audience.
Look out for BallenIsles in the news media too. After another
successful season of strong public relations coverage, we hope to
generate tremendous pick-up of the second annual Junior Cup
Tournament. Last year, this event was featured as a prominent televised sports story by several local news stations, earned valuable print
media coverage and secured a spot on the Reuters jumbotron in
New York’s Times Square. For those Members who may be worried
that they might miss out on coverage, make sure you follow the
Club on Facebook or via the BallenIsles Channel on YouTube. We
have fully embraced the concept of integrated marketing - blending
the best of traditional and emerging media to target and track
prospective members, and build awareness of BallenIsles.
Performance metrics are constantly analyzed across a strong mix of
paid, earned and owned media to ensure that every marketing dollar in the joint Club and BICA marketing budget is being used as
effectively as possible.
Building brand awareness and growing brand equity takes time,
but we are confident that tangible progress is being made. BallenIsles
home sales are pacing 22% ahead of last year, while many competing club communities are experiencing flat sales or even a decline in
their sales performance. In this pending election year, with volatile
world financial markets and a national economy that continues to
struggle, the local real estate market is not out of the woods yet. As
you know, the Club and BICA recently announced a preferred real
estate relationship with Waterfront Properties & Club Communities
to assist in marketing and selling homes within BallenIsles.
Waterfront Properties & Club Communities will utilize their
sophisticated marketing platform to aggressively promote BallenIsles
locally, nationally and internationally, building on the Club’s existing
marketing efforts. An on-site real estate office in the main
Clubhouse will be staffed seven days a week, providing professional
services to prospective members and visiting realtors. The tools and
techniques utilized by Waterfront brokers are highly effective in
marketing and selling club properties across all price ranges in the
market. A commitment to a strong marketing mix is secured in the
new agreement including extensive internet marketing cross-linked
to the BallenIsles website, local newspaper advertising, direct mail,
interactive media projects, and public relations. It is our intent to
leverage the combined strengths of both organizations to create a
competitive edge in what we predict will continue to be a challenging real estate market. Once again, Members are reminded that a
BallenIsles resident may list their home for sale with any real estate
professional from any company of their choice. The primary marketing objective of the preferred real estate relationship is to increase
the overall number of sales leads, introducing more potential home
buyers interested in all real estate listings within the community.
Once a prospect is introduced to the Club, new equity installment
plans have been designed to facilitate the membership purchase and
provide extra assistance to attract younger buyers.
Our professional interest in promoting the lifestyle advantages of
living and playing at BallenIsles can be significantly advanced by
your personal testimonials. The key to building brand equity is establishing a strong brand identity and communicating it consistently
over time. The power of positive word-of-mouth cannot be underestimated. Your voices have tremendous value in a business that
thrives on referrals. Together, we can build value in the BallenIsles
brand for the benefit of all residents and members.
During the months ahead, the Club staff will be engaged in summer maintenance projects and planning for an exceptional
upcoming social and sporting season. Summer is a time when golf
courses are groomed for the coming winter season, including verticutting, aeration and general maintenance. Details of course closings
and a complete list of local clubs offering reciprocal privileges may
be found on the Club website.
We hope that you all enjoy the summer, wherever your travels
may take you. Remember to keep your eye open for the BallenIsles
brand! For those of you who plan on relaxing and enjoying your
summer fun here in south Florida, we promise to keep you entertained and look forward to seeing you often at the Club.

BallenIsles Charities
Foundation Weekend
The newly formed BallenIsles Charities Foundation (BICF) which
was established with a mission of “Helping to Make a Difference,”
presented financial grants totaling $130,000 to 15 deserving local
area organizations serving the community. The awards represent
100 percent funding of each of the programs supported in our
inaugural year. That is, every beneficiary received every dollar they
asked for. As importantly, this also represents the power of the joint
spirit of giving within our community which collectively can create a bigger impact to benefit local programs and organizations in
the towns where we live, volunteer and use services. Designated
beneficiaries of the BICF grant awards for 2012 included:
City of Palm Beach Gardens Police Department
Palm Beach Gardens Recreation Department
Allamanda Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens
Scripps Florida Education Outreach Program
Gratitude House’s ‘Mothers and Infants in Treatment Together’
Alzheimer’s Community Care ‘Family Nurse Consultant Services’
Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School, in Palm Beach Gardens

As we begin to enjoy the summer months
here in Florida or wherever summer takes
you, remember to stay active.
During the summer we will be introducing
a group interval training class. This class will
enable you to workout with a group and receive wonderful
instruction from one of our professional training staff. We are also
looking at adding some additional group training classes and a
morning yoga class.
Take advantage of our summer special! Whether you are new to
fitness or would like to jumpstart your current program, we can
help. Monday’s will become our “Evaluation Day,” allowing our

Prevent Dehydration
BallenIsles Swim Program
Swim For Fitness
Living in the humid climate of South Florida puts individuals at
high risk for dehydration.
Dehydration is sweat-induced loss of body water. Activity that
causes dehydration resulting in a loss of 1% to 2% of one’s body
weight is sufficient to impair exercise performance. Dehydration of
greater than 3% of body weight impairs bodily function and
increases the risk of heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and even death.
Prevention of dehydration during exercise is important to maximize exercise performance as well as prevent heat injuries. The
following are guidelines to avoid dehydration:
Eight 30 Minute Sessions
$250 group rate per person
Improve your strength, endurance and overall fitness. Lessons are
scheduled at your convenience.
• Individuals should be well hydrated at the beginning of a round
of golf, exercise or outdoor activity. This can be achieved by drinking 14 to 20 oz. of fluid (water) within three hours prior to activity.
Single Lessons
Private Lesson
30 minutes
$45.00 per person
Semi-private Lesson
30 minutes
$35.00 per person
We provide instruction to help swimmers and non-swimmers ages
3 and older develop abilities in their swimming and water safety
skills. Private and semi-private lessons are available. Lessons are
scheduled at your convenience.
Competitive Strokes
Eight 30 Minute Sessions
$250 group rate per person
Learn how to speed past others! Competitive stroke training sessions
are aimed at refining competitive strokes, improving endurance,
strength, and speed through a variety of drills.
Baby & Me
Eight 30 Minute Sessions
$250 per person
For all those tadpoles 4 months to 2 years old, let's make a special
splash! Baby & Me helps children become familiar with the water
and learn the basics. This class is fun for both kids and parents.
• Consume 5 to 10 oz. of fluid every fifteen to twenty minutes
during play, exercise or activity. The actual amount of drinking
should be adjusted based on individual sweat rates and tolerance
for drinking during exercise.
• To determine one’s individual sweat rate during activity, weigh
yourself prior to activity and weigh yourself again immediately
after. Each pound of weight lost equals 8oz. of fluid loss (1lb=8oz).
This will tell you how much fluid you need to rehydrate. If you
remained hydrated you will not have lost any weight.
For hydration, water works best. Once dehydration has
occurred, the National Athletic Trainers Association has found that
well designed sports drinks are superior to water for rehydration
following exercise.

Do you take a big back swing and hit a flat ball from mid-court?
Big chance for error! The pros make an approach shot from midcourt look like a sure winner or very aggressive shot virtually every
time. Aside from the athleticism and amount of training involved,
they typically use some amount of spin (usually topspin on a ball that
is struck from waist level up to about shoulder level). This allows
them a full swing, with acceleration and control. When the Club
player attacks a shorter, high bouncing ball, they tend to take too big
a backswing, and hit far too flat a ball for optimum control. As a
result, they have a bigger backswing than they can control hitting
into what is effectively a shorter court by 15-20 feet; not a good
combination for success. To compensate, the player often decelerates
their swing, losing yet more ability to control the ball off the racquet, or the player must hit the perfect ball at exactly the correct
height of clearance over the net to have a successful shot (the ball
either hits the net or goes out).
The next time you approach a short, high ball with the intent
of being aggressive, add a bit of spin if you have the capability, or
shorten your backswing so you can still hit an attacking ball, but
maintain control and technique with a little less power, and still
allow yourself to accelerate your swing! Your success rate will
climb immediately, and boost your confidence on the shot!

MGA Makes Record Donation from One-day
Fundraising Golf Event
by Ed Gilbert
The senior MGA continues to enjoy a hectic and successful season with wide participation and an expanding roster of members
which can now be accessed online. Total membership approximates 250 golfers who compete in friendly formats on a weekly
basis and generally allows for team competition as opposed to
individual contests. Every effort is made to provide for equitable
competitive opportunity and the Knuth System has been the vehicle for parity.
Our dinner/dance held in March was a great success, with over
200 members and guests enjoying an evening of food, drink and
good fellowship.
A presentation was made to Sang
Hwang who is leaving BallenIsles
after 12 years to take a well deserved
teaching position in Northern
Virginia. The plaque was presented
by President Dick Natalizio following
which, Sang responded with a moving and heartfelt thank you to our
members. Needless to say, he will be
missed.
