Adam Arthur
Let Adam Arthur, a student registered nurse anesthetist, tell
you what he thinks makes for a good job and great scrubs.
Landau: What do you like most about your job?
Adam: Anesthesia has a certain mystery to it—I like that. It’s like
an art that nobody else knows. It’s unique and fascinating knowing
how to do it.
L: What’s a typical day like?
A: In clinicals, I work about 12 hours in trauma. The students
do everything—we intubate, administer epidurals, spinal and
regional blocks, and provide pain management. We do everything.
L: Is there anything in particular you like in a
pant or a top?
A: A lot of tops seem boxy. I like more of an athletic fit.
L: If you were designing scrubs, how would you
make them?
A: Not too tight, not too loose—just somewhere in the middle.
L: On a scale of one to 10, how important is fit
to you?
A: Ten. You want them to be light and to breathe well because
guys sweat a lot.
L: Is there an item you can’t do without?
A: My cell phone. I use it to calculate drug doses and to look
up information.
L: What healthcare professional, real or fictional,
do you most admire?
A: When I worked in Arkansas, I met a doctor who was just great
all-around. He was fun to work with, and he was really good at
what he did.
