DAS HAUS – Interiors on Stage
Louise Campbell to design "Das Haus – Interiors on Stage" in 2014
The walk-in "Das Haus – Interiors on Stage" installation will be erected
at this year's imm cologne too – this time based on plans by Louise
Campbell. Following the format's successful premiere with London
design studio Doshi Levien in 2012 and Venetian designer Luca Nichetto's
elegant interpretation at the imm cologne 2013, the next "Das Haus"
will be created by an up-and-coming young designer from Scandinavia.
"Being given a free hand to tell the realistic story of an ideal home is of
course a really wonderful challenge," says Louise Campbell, evidently
delighted about the invitation to design "Das Haus" in 2014. "But it's
a difficult challenge too," she adds, "because although this is a unique
opportunity for any designer, it means you have to commit to a certain
direction, whereas if there's one thing my work has taught me it's that
there are as many ideal homes in the world as there are people.
"Louise Campbell is a Danish furniture and lighting designer with an
English instinct for interior design. She is undoubtedly one of the leading
protagonists in a new avant-garde generation of designers who are
evolving the grand tradition of Scandinavian Modernism not only with
respect but with new-found self-confidence as well. Between the poles
of traditional minimalism and a far more playful approach that exhibits
great courage in its willingness to experiment with forms and materials,
she creates furniture and luminaires that owe their appeal just as much
to their clear forms as to their emotional aesthetics. Louise Campbell's
works are anything but austere – instead, for all the stringency of their
forms, their warmth and the playful, sometimes even humorous way she
reinterprets everyday objects exudes an irresistible fascination.

Featured Editions
Featured Editions combines the exclusive character of this hall with the
experimental: on ten platforms spread around between the booths, various
designers – some of them young, some already well-known – collaborate
with the companies involved to create a series of compact and creative
exhibitions and installations. Just like the participating brands, the themes
for these stages are specially selected. Koelnmesse’s close collaboration
with the internet platform Stylepark ensures the Featured Editions shown
exhibit the appropriate interior design relevance.

Interior Innovation Award 2014
On the occasion of imm cologne and LivingInteriors Koelnmesse and
the German Design Council will present the Interior Innovation Award
for the 12th time and award therewith the best innovations in interior
design. The Interior Innovation Award stands for first-class innovative
achievements in all the sector’s product areas. It offers companies an
effective tool for corporate positioning and product differentiation on
the interior design market. The international jury consisting of Barbara
Friedrich, Carole Baijings, Gerhard Wolf, Giulio Ridolfo, Sebastian Wrong
and Andrej Kupetz will select the best product developments from the
accompanying exhibition and will award the title “Best of Best”.
And that is not all, for the competition also sets standards as regards
promoting up-and-coming designers. For the eleventh time, in 2014 the
Interior Innovation Award will once again go to three young designers
selected by the jury from the talent forum [D³] Contest 2014.

Pure One
The new platform for young design clusters the imm cologne’s innovative and established formats for the promotion of up-and-coming international designers. In 2014, the experimental exhibition format Design
Injections will be showing unusual scenographies and projects by young
designers and groups for the first time. The tried-and tested formats
[D3] Contest and [D3] Schools are home to the winners of the international
design competition and their sometimes spectacular designs, as well as
to the talent hotbeds of the international college scene.

[D³] Professionals
Rather than presenting portraits of individual designers, Design Injection
is intended to bring topics up for discussion by illustrating the design
process all the way from the idea to the finished product. All forms of the
experimental design market will be represented – from prototypes and
small production runs to concept studies and limited editions.
Hall 1
[D³] Professionals offers the opportunity for young and independent
designers and design studios to present their ideas to a wide audience
and to achieve herewith contacts to the industry and the retail business.
In 2014 21 young professionals from 8 different countries present their
ideas in product design and interior design. [D³] Professionals rounds off
imm cologne's activities dedicated to promoting young designers from
around the world and will be presented at the Pure Village in Hall 2.2.

The platform [D³] Schools at the imm cologne is showcasing the creative
potential of colleges from the areas of product design, interior architecture and architecture. They are presenting themselves to a design savvy
audience with some fascinating design and room concepts – a magnet
and contact forum for design’s future elite. The schools themselves are
responsible for the design of their fair stands and exhibition space.
The sometimes extremely unusual installations have nothing in common
with conventional information stands. They are often an aesthetic
highlight in their own right, presenting a sophisticated interior design
concept or telling their own design story.

[D³] Contest
For the 11th time imm cologne 2014 presents the [D³] Contest which is
one of the internationally best known design competitions for young and
up-coming designers. For the [D³] Contest 2014 452 products had been
submitted. Thereof 22 prototypes of 26 young designers from all over
the world had been invited to Cologne to present their ideas for furniture,
lighting and interior design to the international audience.

Lectures and presentations on themes related to design, trends, colours,
new book releases etc.

Book Lounge
On the occasion of imm cologne well-known authors, journalists and
publishers will present new publications in the Book Lounge.
In cooperation with Westermann Kommunikation exciting novelties
will be presented every day. They will also be available on site at the
bookshops in Passage 3/11 and the Boulevard.

Sleep Lounge
In the Lounge area, the German Mattress Industry Association (Fachverband Matratzen-Industrie e.V.) is this time presenting a topic with a lot
of heart and mind: neuromarketing. The focus question here is on what
creative impulses the industry and trade can gain from the findings of
neuromarketing for the POS. The lounge will be a walk-in installation
of the human brain. In addition to the installation there will be three
neuromarketing experts in Hall 9:

Worlds of moods invite guests to kick back
The future starts here.
The upholstered furniture hall 10.2 will delight visitors to imm cologne
2014, not only thanks to exceptional exhibitors and attractive exhibits.
For the first time, the project “Cozy & Crazy – The Mood Lounge @ Hall
10.2” will be located in a central position for visitors to take a break.
The lounge gives trade fair visitors the chance to kick back and take the
load off. Selected models from the companies represented in the hall
will ensure a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. But the new comfort zone
is much more than just a place to relax. Above all, it is a meeting point
for anyone wanting to find out more about the influence of light and
colour on design and furnishing. With exciting colour productions and
projections – supported by augmented reality recordings – the individual
suites will be immersed in entirely different moods, where a well-coordinated alternating rhythm will, in the truest sense of the word, reveal the
furniture in an ever new light.
“Cozy & Crazy” is a coproduction of Koelnmesse and trade magazine
duo MÖBELMARKT/InteriorFashion with the direct incorporation of
exhibitors from hall 10.2.

Interior Innovation Award 2014
At the end of the Trend Avenue, you’ll discover a philosophy of home
design. Here, in a variety of furnished rooms, you will find inspiring ideas
for designing your new home.
In this area the focus is on flooring, bathroom fittings, wallcoverings and
dramatic lighting.
For 2014, the architectural theme of “The Rooms” will be “Oases in
urban deserts” – in other words, how the desire for “green” instead of
“grey” can be integrated into city flats as well.

Numerous presentations, Trend Talks and DIY shows will invite participants to find inspiration and share ideas at the “LivingInteriors Forum”.
You can also look forward to celebrity guests such as Guido Maria
Kretschmer (Saturday, 18 January 2014), Brigitte von Boch

“Bark Cloth” special exhibition
All along the Trend Avenue, the trend presentation areas “Trends Floors
& Walls”, “Trends Bath” and “Trends Light” will offer you concise information about the current highlights in each of these sectors.

This special exhibition, organized under the auspices of UNESCO, is an
impressive presentation of the textile that is reputed to be the oldest
man-made fabric and is the only material to date that has been awarded
World Heritage status. This textile is “bark cloth”.
