The release for this week’s competition is focused on who Arizona students are in the classroom and community. ACADEMIC SPOTLIGHT TOP PERFORMERS GymCat Academic Standouts: Senior Danielle Buchanan as the 2015 female recipient of the Pac-12 Leadership Award Sunday. The award, established in 2002, is a $3,000 scholarship for postgraduate study. The conference created the award to recognize student-athletes who have served on their Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) and awards one male and one female each year. Buchanan has served on the committee for the past two years and was recognized for the leadership she demonstrated within the committees. Buchanan, a physiology major with a 3.454 cumulative GPA, was recently accepted into Northwestern’s graduate program. She also received an AllConference Academic honorable mention in 2013. This year the GymCats have visited Diamond Children’s Hospital and Ben’s Bells several times, participated in charity runs/walks and visited ArtWorks, a local art studio for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Buchanan has has completed 110 hours of community service at Ben’s Bells, Team Impact, Casa Maria Food Kitchen and has engaged with local schools speaking at a number of events. Junior Gabrielle Laub plays the guitar and sings, this summer she auditioned for American Idol. Sophomore Kennady Schneider is a painter and dances in her spare time, she even choreographs her own floor routines. NUTRITIONAL CORNER Did you know? The meet is set to air on the Pac-12 Networks. Live stats will also be available via arizonawildcats.com/gymanstics. Last year, the Wildcats were 2-0 against Arizona State after beating them in McKale and in Salt Lake City at the Pac-12 Championships. FOR THE CUP One point for the Territorial Cup will be on the line at Monday’s meet. The Sun Devils currently lead the Wildcat in the race, 5.5-1.5. LAST TIME AT HOME Last time the Wildcats competed in McKale was Jan. 30 against UCLA. The team scored their highest team score of the season with a 196.475, but fell to the Bruins who earned a 196.80. The team stuck seven routines between the vault, uneven bars and balance beam apparatuses. The team captured the beam and floor titles over the Pac-12 rival. NUMBERS TO REMEMBER •3,025 average attendance, the highest in program history •Over 375,000 views of Arizona Gymnastics’ Whip Nae Nae video on YouTube •In the rankings: No. 27 (V), No. 16 (UB), No. 26 (BB), No. 20 (FX) •Event team averages: 48.796 (V), 48.975 (UB), 48.696 (BB), 48.975 (FX) DAB QUEEN Sophomore Kennady Schneider has become a conference floor exercise icon. She shocked the crowd in week one after doing the popular hip hop dance move, the “dab”. Since then she has won two floor titles and has scored 9.90’s twice. DEPTH IN THE CHARTS Arizona has been able to take advantage of its depth in the first four meets of the season. Five GymCats have contributed as specialists on three events: senior Shelby Edwards (V, BB, FX), senior Lexi Mills (UB, BB, FX), senior Jessie Sisler (V, BB, FX), junior Selynna Felix-Terrazas (V, UB, FX) and sophomore Maddy Cindric (V, BB, FX). Five of the GymCats showcased their work in two event lineups, including: junior Gabrielle Laub (V and UB), junior Krysten Howard (UB and BB), sophomore Kennady Schneider (UB and FX) and freshman Lauryn Mattson (V, FX). Freshmen Skyler Sheppard and Dani Spencer have appeared consistently in the lineups as event specialists on beam and the uneven bars, respectively. ► National Rankings (2.15.16) AND THAT’S ANOTHER #ARIZONASTICK In Berkeley, the GymCats recorded twelve sticks in three events (V, UB, BB), breaking their previous season record of seven sticks. Arizona saw sticks from: Lauryn Mattson, Jessie Sisler and Maddy Cindric on vault; Krysten Howard, Dani Spencer, Selynna Felix-Terrazas, Gabrielle Laub and Victoria Ortiz on bars; Shelby Edwards, Krysten Howard, Lexi Mills and Maddy Cindric on beam. ON THE AIR 9 Boise State 10 Georgia Monday’s meet will be aired live on the Pac12 Network with commentary from Amanda 11Arkansas Borden, Greg Marsden and Jim Watson. Seven of Arizona’s ten meets will be aired on a major 12Stanford television network this season, including six on the Pac-12 Network and one on Fox Sports. 13Denver The Pac-12 Championships will also be aired live on the conference network. 14Nebraska 15California MEET IN A MINUTE: ARIZONA VS STANFORD 16 Oregon State The Arizona GymCats returned home to McKale after two weeks on the road, Sat. Feb. 13. 17 George Washington In front of a crowd of nearly 3,000, the team hit 24 of 24 routines falling just short of a win 18Minnesota against the Stanford Cardinal, 196.65-196.15. The Wildcats started the night off by hitting 19Missouri the vault. The team was led by sophomore 20Arizona Maddy Cindric who stuck her way to a season high 9.85. On the uneven bars junior Selynna 21 Eastern Michigan Felix-Terrazas was Arizona’s scoring leader after she received a 9.825. In the third rotation, 22Kentucky Arizona showed their grit on their faces and in their routines. Three 9.85’s were earned 23 Southern Utah by seniors Jessie Sisler and Shelby Edwards, and junior Krysten Howard. Cindric stuck yet 24 Iowa another routine and received a 9.80. During the season rankings are determined every Monday morning by total season average from January 11 to Febrary15. After February 22 ranking is determined by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). Regional Qualifying Score An RQS is calculated by the six best regular season meet scores, three of which being road meet scores. The first meet against MSU attracted 3,707 fans to McKale and the second home meet against UCLA brought in 2,542 fans. Arizona’s average fan attendance this season is 3,025. LOOKING AHEAD The Wildcats will return home to take on the Washington GymDawgs. Arizona will be hosting its annual Think Pink meet to support breast cancer victims and survivors.
