All guests are asked to observe and remain behind the string barriers.
Diplomas and certificates will be distributed immediately after the
exercises in front of the Addison Gallery of American Art.
All guests, including individuals using cameras or video equipment (with
the exception of Academy-authorized photographers), are asked to respect the
integrity of the ceremonies during the Commencement Exercises by remaining
outside the circle and behind the seniors throughout the distribution of diplomas.
Following the distribution of diplomas, the head of school and the faculty invite
graduates and their guests to a reception in Flagstaff Courtyard or,
in case of rain, in the Smith Center.

AURELIAN HONOR SOCIETY PRIZE—awarded to a member of the
graduating class who, in the opinion of the faculty and fellow classmates, is
outstanding in sterling character, high scholarship, and forceful leadership
Other awards honoring seniors were announced previously.
O f special note
This program's title, "Order of Exercises at Exhibition," reflects a tradition,
harking back to the late eighteenth century, when Academy students publicly
exhibited before their schoolmasters their mastery of the school's curriculum in
order to earn a diploma. Academy graduates gave a Latin dissertation, a Greek
dialogue, and an extract from Scott's Lady of the Lake, among several other
declamations, according to the program of exercises of August 21, 1821.
Seniors carry roses in the tradition of Abbot Academy. The Abbot roses are
provided through the generosity of the Abbot Academy Association.
