A Wonderfull Mother
A mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine,
And He molded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks, fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me.

Remember in Prayer
As members of the parish faith community, it is
our responsibility to remember both in concrete
and spiritual ways those who cannot celebrate with
us each week because they are ill. Those who are sick in
turn, remember all of us daily in their prayers and in their
sufferings. We experience many blessings because of
their remembering us. And so...please remember in your
prayers:

It is always a pleasure to thank those that give of
themselves whenever they see the need. One of these
people is Mr. Gus Kaprales. Thank you Gus for all the
food donations that helped with the Fall and Spring
Pancake Breakfast, hams that fed the less fortunate as
well as providing the main course for the Easter Vigil’s
reception. Kleopatra, his daugter is a 5th grader attending
St. Ferdinand School.
A Prayer for the Armed Forces
Almighty God, stretch forth Your mighty
arm to strengthen and protect the men and
women of our Armed Forces. As they face
the myriad of challenges and decisions that
each day is destined to bring, may they be anchored by
their faith, protected by Your presence and comforted by
the knowledge that they are loved by You and by this
community of faith. Grant that, meeting danger with courage, and all occasions with discipline and loyalty, they
may truly serve the cause of justice and peace to the
honor of your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
May God keep you safe!

From the Pastor:
Yesterday, May 12th, the children from our schools received their Fist Communion. For the first time in their lives they
were invited to be at the Table of Our Lord. We congratulate all of the children on this special day and we thank everyone who
helped them prepare for the momentous occasion; parents, god-parents, religious teachers and all the priests who helped prepare the
hearts of the children (in their first Reconciliation) to receive the Body of Christ.
Occasions like this remind us that we should have respect for the Holy Eucharist and the receiving of Holy Communion.
We should remember the enthusiasm we had the first time we “received” and bring that to each and every time for the rest of our
life.
Last Sunday I quoted from our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI regarding the importance of celebrating each Sunday. This
Sunday please allow me to quote from him on the subject of receiving Communion, from Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum Caritatis – Eucharist as the source and summit of the Church’s life and mission.
“The Synod Fathers also discussed the personal conditions required for fruitful participation on the part of individuals. One
of these is certainly the spirit of constant conversion which must mark the lives of all the faithful. Active participation in the eucharistic liturgy can hardly be expected if one approaches it superficially, without an examination of his or her life. This inner disposition can be fostered, for example, by recollection and silence for at least a few moments before the beginning of the liturgy, by fasting and, when necessary, by sacramental confession. A heart reconciled to God makes genuine participation possible. The faithful
need to be reminded that there can be no actuosa participatio (active participation) in the sacred mysteries without an accompanying
effort to participate actively in the life of the Church as a whole, including a missionary commitment to bring Christ's love into the
life of society.
Clearly, full participation in the Eucharist takes place when the faithful approach the altar in person to receive communion.
Yet true as this is, care must be taken lest they conclude that the mere fact of their being present in church during the liturgy gives
them a right or even an obligation to approach the table of the Eucharist. Even in cases where it is not possible to receive sacramental communion, participation at Mass remains necessary, important, meaningful and fruitful. In such circumstances it is beneficial to
cultivate a desire for full union with Christ through the practice of spiritual communion, praised by Pope John Paul II and recommended by saints who were masters of the spiritual life”.
Let this reflection help us all deepen the way we celebrate each and every Mass.
I would like to thank all the people who supported the Building and Maintenance Fund. Besides the individual donations
we also received donations from the parish organizations; the Usher’s Club -- $2040, the Highlander’s Club -- $1000, Good Shepherd Club -- $900, Friendship Club -- $100. There was also an altar gift from the Confirmation students of Polish School for $4000.
We have also received $400 for the First Anniversary of their First Communion from Polish School students. Thanks to all these
donations we are able to continue working on the many things that need attention in the school, church and rectory. Once a month I
continue to celebrate Mass asking for special blessings for those of you who have been so supportive.
I wish you a happy Sunday and Happy Mother’s Day and blessed test of the week.

In honor of saving our planet, St. Ferdinand Parish and School has started a paper
recicling program. The recicling helps teach and promote environmental stewardship
and awareness, and raises funds for our school and church. Help us save our planet by
recycling: magazines, catalogs, newspapers, mail, office paper and paperback books. A
large collection bin is located in the parking lot and is available 24 hours for drop-offs.
Please do not put cardboard or phonebooks in there! Thank you!

THANK YOU 503
Once again, the spirit of St. Ferdinand’s made the 41st
Usher’s Pancake Breakfast a memorable event. We
opened up with a large group from the 7:00 a.m. Polish
Mass and their spirit carried us through the entire
morning. Our menu consisted of fluffy pancakes,
sausages, juice and a wide assortment of raffles to help
pass the time.
We would like to acknowledge the main winners:
Pictured above, is Giancana Grego with Dr. Mastalerz

Roses to those on the Way of the Cross
It remains our sincere hope that through word and deed,
education and example, we young and old one heritage or
another, would all come to know that our care for Our
Church — His really, is done through small and not so
small gestures of help and support. As a source of hope
and inspiration it is our intention to publish those names
in print who have done outstanding work in the course of
the week to “plant a rose” so to speak along the way as
we carry the cross in the glory of the victory “He” won.
Our part though small can and does grow. We might need
to see the proof. The names are both a thank you and attempt to have lots of roses where ever “the cross” is.

"Happy Mother's Day" means more
Than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
We never get to say.
It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I honor you.
But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
With pleasure and with love.
Best wishes to all
Mothers!

Increase Your Intake of HIGH IRON FOODS
The United States Department of Agriculture recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for iron varies
with age and sex. For most males eligible by age to
be blood donors and for postmenopausal femals, it is
10 mg per day. Premenopausal females should
ingest 15 mg of iron per day. It is a good idea to read the
Nutrition Facts Label of all the foods you eat and
calculate how much iron is in your diet. Foods that are
good to eat to increase the amount of iron in your diet are
listed below.
Liver, beef, pork, poultury, and fish are excelent
source of dietary iron. Those foods cointain heme
iron, which is readily absorbed by the body.
Shellfish, such as shrimp, clams, mussels, and oysters
are also good source of iron
If you do not eat meat of fish, other food with high
iron content include:
Iron fortified cereals
Beans or legumes—especially kidney beans,
pinto beans, and chickpeas
Vegetables—such as peas, spinach, and
lentils
Fruits—especially apricots and raisins
Enriched and whole grain breads
Molasses
Absorption of iron from any the sources above can be
improved by eating vitamin C-rich foods at the same
meal. Vitamin C-rich foods include orange jiuce,
grapefruit, cantelope, green peppers and tomatoes.
If you do not eat meat, or fish, or poultry, avoid
drinking tea with meals. Tea cointains tannins which
will decrease the absorption of iron. Legumes (peas
or beans, for example) also cointain compounds that
decrease the absorption of iron. Vegeterians ahould
eat these foods with a source of vitamin C.
While this information, from the American Red Cross, is
given to a person, after coming in to be a Blood Donor is
refused due to a low Blood iron count, anyone/everyone
can benefit from this information to help them improve
their diets.
Our Spring Parish Blood Drive is on

szacunku do Najświętszej Eucharystii.
życia i misji Kościoła.
Serce pojednane z Bogiem uzdalnia do prawdziwego uczestnictwa.
Niemniej jednak należy zwrócić uwagę, by to słuszne stwierdzenie nie wprowadziło pewnego automatyzmu wśród
do stołu eucharystycznego.
św. pozostaje konieczne, ważne, znaczące i owocne.
Funduszu
naprawy i rozbudowy. Poza indywidualnymi ofiarodawcami dziękuję za złożenie ofiary Klubowi Marszałków $2,040; Klubowi
Podhalan i Miłośników Tatr $1,000; Klubowi Dobrego Pasterza $900; Friendship Club $100; dar ołtarza od osób bierzmowanych w
języku polskim $4,000 i rocznicy Pierwszej Komunii św. $400. Dzięki waszej ofiarności możemy prowadzić niezbędne prace
remontowe w budynku kościoła, szkoły i plebanii. Za wszystkich ofiarodawców w każdym miesiącu odprawiam Mszę św. o
potrzebne łaski dla Was.
Życzę Wam miłej niedzieli i radosnego świętowania Dnia Matki oraz błogosławionego tygodnia.
Ks.
Prymicje w parafii!
20 maja 2007 ks. Krzysztof Cistoń odprawi swoją pierwszą Mszę św. – Prymicje. Ze względu na charakter tej Mszy św.
i błogosławieństwo prymicyjne udzielane indywidualnie, Msza św. została przeniesiona o godzinę wcześniej. Zamiast
serdecznie zapraszamy.

Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 13, 2007
Ogarnijmy wszystkie dzieci gorącą modlitwą, aby to wydarzenie
celebrowały z największą czcią przez całe swoje życie.
Po raz pierwszy w pełni uczestniczą we Mszy Świętej:
