ave Group, the dream
venture of Late Ponty
Chadha exemplifies success in every sphere. Built from
scratch, this huge conglomerate
of businesses is today one of the
largest in all arenas it ventured
into. Envisioned by the Late
Kulwant Singh Chadha way back
in 1963, Wave Group has been
steered by his long term vision
and today boasts of an impressive
portfolio of businesses, including
sugar manufacturing, distilleries
and breweries, real estate,
malls and multiplexes, beverages,
sports, education, paper and
entertainment.
Started as a sugar crushing
business, the major industrial diversification of Wave Group started with their paper unit and they
finally diversified into real estate,
with the onset of Centrestage Mall
(now Wave Mall). Talking about
this diversification and why they
chose to venture into real estate,
Manpreet Chadha, vice chairman,
Wave Infratech shares, "For my fa-
W
The indisputable leaders
Success at Wave Group is not measured by profitability alone. It must lead
to the happiness of all stakeholders involved to be truly successful
ther Ponty Chadha, the reasons
were very clear. He could envision
that we needed another stream
and back then the real estate
seemed like the new upcoming
sector. Noida became a focal
point because of DND coming up,
its connection and integration
with Delhi" For their foray into retail and real estate and their first
project, the Wave Mall (earlier
Centrestage Mall), Chadha expresses that they are thankful to
Shipra Group and Late Harpal
Singh for launching the project as
a joint venture with them. "He
convinced my father to enter this
business through this joint project. They were leading the project
until Harpal Singh passed away.
We then started managing the
project more profoundly. This is
how we began as a small player
in this field and then slowly expanding into Ghaziabad,
Lucknow and Ludhiana," says
Chadha. He adds, "It was at this
juncture that with a project in
Greater Noida we commenced
into the residential projects."
"The philosophy of the group
has always been to collaborate
with experienced stakeholders
from the real estate sector. Wave
Group started the journey by collaborating with the Uppal Group
in helping to develop their second
residential project at Greater
Noida. After getting the hands on
experience in development of
residential and commercial property, the group along with the experienced partner succeeded in
getting the license for HI TECH city
project at Ghaziabad. The award
of license to the Wave Group gave
impetus to expand the business
horizon to Mohali and was successful in getting license for developing 300 acres of mixed land
use project. Then the projects in
Sector 18 Noida came along and
the journey has been very exciting
till date," avers Chadha.
Wave Group's policy has been
to efficiently and effectively optimise its diverse businesses and
maximise output by participating
in all aspects of business. This has
resulted in exponential growth in
the group's productivity, its ability
to transform industries and in creating opportunities for entirely
new market segments. The business model has evolved significantly through strategic investments in services and
technologies, ensuring that the
Wave Group maintains its competitive advantage in every sector.
The USP of the organisation is
keeping promises and reciprocating to the investors. Reciprocation
every time and on all commitments given or taken is what
makes Wave Group, the company
it is today. Besides this, the group
also believes in delivering as
promised; Wave Group also
spends extra months to go into
the very deep of the project and
convert them into efficiently execution able projects. The company does this prior to the stage of
designing. It is only then that the
promises are made while maintaining a healthy bottom line.
Every successful journey has a
long story of roadblocks and obstacles on its way. The ones who
overcome them are those who
have achieved success in its
purest form. It is interesting to understand how the patron of the
group - Late Ponty Chadha overcame obstacles during his entire
journey. The Late Ponty Chadha's
biggest acumen in business was
his deep study of roadblocks and
converting those roadblocks into
strength. He always ensured that
once the person has crossed the
obstacles, they shall never enter
one's life again. In fact, he was
such a great leader that he made
sure he filtered them at his own
level and never let them percolate
down to the group. The roadblocks could be taken care of by
the Late Ponty Chadha because of
the philosophies ingrained in him.
Determination and hard work towards a clear goal is what has
helped the Wave Group pass
through any difficulty. For the
Chadha family, the biggest priority
has been work; work is the primary focus for them than any other aspect in life, a choice the family has made and is extremely
happy about.
A typical business house
would count the growing wealth
as its success but Wave Group
thinks otherwise.

Changing Noida’s landscape
Realty giant DLF is all geared up with its new project, the Mall of India, a brand
new concept that will change the course of Indian retail industry forever
nce a barren land, Gurgaon is today a bustling commercial and premier residential city. Among many
other factors, it was due to the buildings created by
DLF that gave Gurgaon the unique identity that it still holds.
After Gurgaon, now it is the turn of Noida and the rest of
NCR to experience the same dynamic change in its retail
landscape. Not only that, with the Mall of India the realty giant is set to change the retail experience in the country forever. After numerous exceptional and path-breaking retail
masterpieces, DLF, with its accrued and acquired experi-
O
ence, expertise and entrepreneurship, is all set to create history again and redefine the world of retail in India by presenting the DLF Mall of India. With an expertise of more
than six decades in the industry, DLF is now presenting the
marquee project that is going to create a benchmark in the
retail business of India - DLF Mall of India at Noida. The
Rs1100 crore project which is spread across the retail space
of 2 million sq ft (GLA) is set for launch in the second quarter of 2014. The idea of Mall of India came to the group
about five and a half years ago when a research was conducted by AC Nielsen. It was found that the city had a large
audience and the fact that that this is a growing city and will
attract a larger audience in the coming time. Elaborating
further, Pushpa Bector, senior vice-president, DLF Utilities
Ltd, says, "With this research, it was certain that the market
was already there and secondly, we got a really good location as at DLF, we believe in choosing the best location possible. With the Mall of India, we got a location that is at the
mouth of Noida and caters to Expressway, Noida, East
Delhi, Mayur Vihar, South Delhi and even Central Delhi.
With good connectivity, within a ten minute drive time, one
can attract a good density of population to this project. The
market was very much there, waiting to be tapped. We are
very excited about it.”
A brand for one and all
A diversified business portfolio, strict adherence to quality and thinking ahead of
times has helped DS Group maintain its position as one of the leading brands
ailing from Barot in Karnal District, Lala Dharampal
started his career at a young age from Chandni
Chowk. The business he chose was intertwined
H
with the city's culture and the two were virtually inseparable. Simultaneously, he started taking interest in the intricacies of perfumery business. Slowly, Lala Dharampal began
to learn the unique characteristic of each itr. Over time, his
personality, behaviour and ability to learn became increasingly versatile. He acquired vast knowledge in both the
fields. The group was founded in 1929 when Lala
Dharampal set up a small perfumery shop in Chandni
Chowk. The urge to create a business around consumer
tastes and preferences led Lala Dharampal to innovate
quality products made out of essential oils like agarbattis,
flavoured supari, gulabjal and tobacco.
In 1940s, the firm started focusing on manufacturing
chewing tobacco. Lala Dharampal was a visionary whose
quest was to create a business around consumer tastes
and preferences, and innovative quality products. Later on,
his younger son Satyapal joined the business. He inherited
the qualities of high virtues, innovation and aspiration to be
the best in one's business. Satyapal was an exemplary entrepreneur who achieved excellence by nurturing an enterprise reflecting quality and innovation. And also drafting
the blue print to build and strengthen the outlook for future. He was bestowed with the title of Sugandhi - Master
of Fragrances by his peers. In 1972, the firm was incorporated as a private limited company. In 1979, Dharampal
Satyapal (DS) was incorporated. Then came a moment
which changed the market dynamics in this segment forever. The legacy of the company was taken forward by the
next generation Ravinder Kumar, Late Sunil Kumar and
Rajiv Kumar. Today, the company continues on its growth
path propelled by the enthusiasm of Ravinder Kumar and
Rajiv Kumar.
Delivering quality
time and again
Getting better with
every challenge
Creating value for
customers
For a brand to be successful, it has to be a consumer
friendly enterprise, something that Dr Anil Sharma
made sure to turn his company Amrapali Group into
A consumer oriented approach coupled with right
intent has taken Mahagun Group to the top of the
ladder in the realty industry
Real estate development is not just about
constructing projects; it is a foundation of society,
believes Harish Sharma of Aadhar Group
f you are determined and are passionate about your desires in life,
there is nothing that you can't
achieve. Dr Anil Kumar Sharma is a
man who fits this description. He was
always passionate about building
buildings. Hailing from a small village
Punarakh in Bihar, this young dynamic civil engineer is a pass out of the
prestigious IIT Khadagpur. After doing
his MBA and Law from Patna, he
started his career with NTPC, NPCC
and worked with Bihar Civil Services
for about 12 years. Though he was an
achiever academically with an excellent meritorious background, he decided to foray into the realty sector.
He describes his journey as tough yet
enjoyable. Coming from a mediocre
or middle-class family and understanding the need an importance of
a shelter, he launched his first residential project in the year 2002 in
I
Noida called Amrapali Exotica catering to the common man. And after
that, there was no looking back.
It takes a lot of courage to leave a
sorted life and job to chase your
dream. Sharma is one of those who
are not afraid of taking risks in life.
Though he started his business, he
lacked two most important factors
that are prerequisites for a business
to flourish - creditability and credential. "My educational background really helped me achieve creditability
and my work allowed me to earn
credentials. Gradually, I succeeded
in achieving both," says an overwhelmed Sharma. But, this was just
the beginning. There were many
more challenges to overcome.
Among several such challenges,
Sharma feels one big challenge was
to bridge the gap between demand
and supply in India. "The gap is so
wide and difficult to fill, but
we are trying
our best," he
says. Sharma's
vision has taken
Amrapali to
greater heights
by completing
the construction
of projects
spread over
more than 100
acres.
ahagun Group is a conglomerate of companies operating in real estate and hospitality sectors. The flagship company
Mahagun India Pvt Ltd was incorporated in 1995 with the objective of
carrying out real estate construction
and development
with primary focus on residential
real estate.
However, over the
years, the group
incorporated/acquired some
more companies
and made its foray into development of commercial real estate as
well as hotels.
"We have already delivered approx
7.00 million sq ft of real estate and
the projects involving development
of approx 15.00 million sq ft are currently in hand at various stages of development," said Amit and Dhiraj
Jain, directors of the group.
The decade starting from 1990
saw opening up of economy leading
to private sector participation in real
estate development in a big way. "My
father, who also happens to be an
engineer by profession, saw a huge
opportunity in this area and started
development of multi-storied flats in
Ghaziabad. From that stage onwards,
M
it has been a continuous journey towards setting higher and higher goals
for our business, which we have been
able to achieve through our sincerity,
dedication and absolute commitment to our customers," says the duo.
The keys to brand success are self-
definition, transparency, authenticity
and accountability. Mahagun believes
in complete transparency, backed by
ethical practices, coupled with timely
delivery of quality product to the customers at reasonable prices. Both the
brothers are brimming with confidence and have a vision to take real
estate to newer heights not just by
constructive development but by environment friendly development.
The vision of the group is very clear.
It wishes to usher a better tomorrow
by giving people an improved quality
of life and living standards.
eaving a lucrative job is never an
easy option for anyone unless
guided by passion to do something remarkable. Harish Sharma,
chairman and managing director of
Aadhar Group followed his passion
and instinct to do exactly that. Leaving
a quality profile job, he turned into an
entrepreneur. Today, he is the face of
an established brand, which is a reputed name in the realty sector. It required courage and hard work to realise his dreams and take Aadhar
Group to these heights and evolve as
a committed brand in such a short
span. After turning almost 40 lakh sq
ft of residential and commercial land
into architectural landmarks, Aadhar
Group promises to come up
with more such unmatched quality
projects. When one takes risks in life, it
may lead to success or failures at
times, yet both are equally important.
Sharma too had
this thought in
mind when he
took the decision
to step aside and
venture into the
realty sector.
Founded in 2006,
the group has
prospered immensely since its
inception. Aadhar
Group recently
announced a
L
commercial real estate project.
Hailing from a middle class family
and having a tough childhood made
Sharma realise early on in his life the
value of hard-earned money. "We
make sure the client's investment is
safe and profitable. Unlike any other
developer, we ensure that our projects get completed not just on time,
but at times before time committed
schedules. This is because we value
people's hard earned money and
don't want their gruelling effort to go
in vain. It is my responsibility as a businessman to deliver on time. I make
sure that I don't spend money taken
by them on any of my personal
needs. I am in this business not just to
earn money, but to serve the society
as well," says Sharma.
He proves this by sharing that he
only takes Re1 as his salary every
month as CMD of the company.”

Propelling the law of nature
Ashish Kumar, the managing director of Schwabe India is determined to take
the company forward to be at the forefront of natural medicinal products

market, the need to establish a manufacturing facility of
Dr Willmar Schwabe India Pvt Ltd in India was felt. That
is how Schwabe forayed into the Indian market. The
brand entered the country with the aim to provide quality products at affordable Indian price. A one of-its-kind
manufacturing plant of the company was then set up in
Noida, Uttar Pradesh which started its operation in
1997. The plant deploys the best of technologies available worldwide.
Making sure that the quality is not neglected, everything is at par with the standards followed elsewhere in
the world. Schwabe imparts high grade training to its
employees in the original German homoeopathic formulations, while respecting the local legal framework.
Ever since its entry in India, the brand has seen
growth. Taking the legacy forward, Ashish Kumar, managing director is shouldering all the responsibilities of
Schwabe India and is the main face of the company in
the country. If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you
will have to settle for the ordinary. And, Kumar was never
amongst those who would settle for the ordinary. He
joined Schwabe five years back and since then there has
been no looking back.

he journey of the company started from a small dispensary called Willmar Schwabe's Central
Homoeopathic Dispensary and a publication of

the homeopathy medicine coming from this dispensary

Asheesh Sethi is a perfect example of a self-made
man who has achieved immense success and fame
with dedication and passion towards his work
othing tastes better than
success. And if success has
been achieved with one's
own determination and perseverance, it is a different high altogether. Asheesh Sethi, chairman of
Noshe Oceanic Advertising is one
success story that needs to be told
again and again. A business that
started off on a small scale as a
mere necessity turned into a passion and has today become a super success, becoming an inspiration for many.
In 1989, at the young age of just
19, Sethi set up Noshe Oceanic as
an advertisement collection agency
in Daryaganj, New Delhi for the
Indian Express Group. This was his
first entrepreneurial step. Noshe
Oceanic is the pioneer in retail advertising. In earlier times, there
wasn't much advertising in the retail sector. Sethi soon picked up a
few accounts and then the journey
just went on towards success.
N
Sethi's continued focus on retail
led him to become the most successful advertising agency in the
segment. He shares, "When we
started, it was a one man army. I
picked up my first account of a
small little store New Ways
Department in Chandni Chowk.
Then the client list just kept getting
bigger." The focus on retail did not
change in the first 15 years.
However, today the company has
more than 140 clients in retail. It
represents almost every retail store
in North India and also some in
South India. As the company grew,
so did the client list in various other
sectors beyond retail, including real
estate. So, from mom and pop stores
to SMEs to some Fortune 500 companies, Noshe managed to expand
in every way possible. It also took its
clients to a more organised platform.
His plush office in Noida is an exquisite place and they are proud to be
India's first advertising agency to have
an in-house
production
house. "We
have everything inhouse, we created the entire
facility here so
that there is a
backward integration and
a 360 degree
offering in the
real sense,"
he says.
Innovation is their key to success
Maintaining quality and innovation can make any brand successful. It is
something Supertech Limited too believes in and practices
ndia's leading real estate developer, Supertech was
founded in 1988 and since then has been scaling new
heights with each passing day. The company has set
new trends of architectural finesse in the contemporary
global scenario touching the horizons of excellence.
Established under the dynamic leadership of RK Arora,
chairman and managing director, Supertech Limited, the
organisation has created various landmark projects.
Talking about their initial journey and their first project,
Mohit Arora, director, Supertech Limited shares, "My father started his career with a job as an engineer with a
construction company. From there on, he got into civil
contracting business and did that for a few years. In 1988,
he started his own real estate business. Our first project
was Supertech Homes, which was a series of 25 threestorey apartment buildings. Our first big group housing
project was Supertech Residency in Vaishali. So, we started from here and have today grown and expanded into
many areas."
Today, the company has 38 ongoing projects across
Delhi NCR, Meerut, Moradabad, Rudrapur, Haridwar and
Bengaluru. It has already converted more than 33 million
sq ft land into residential and commercial spaces. With
projects worth Rs18,000 crore in hand, the company has
I
over 90 million square feet under construction. The leaders and skilled professionals of the company have
worked towards launching out-of-the-league projects to
take real estate sector to the next level. Supertech pioneered the concept of mixed-use land development in
India and to come up with high rise constructions in
North India.
Talking about the group's philosophy and unique selling proposition, Arora says, "Our USP or philosophy is
innovation in the real estate industry."

Quality construction at an

the success of Gaursons India Ltd
t all started as a small family business in the year 1995.
Today, that business has turned into one of the biggest
companies in the realty industry. Gaursons, under the
aegis of its Managing Director Manoj Gaur, has fully come
into its own. Reminiscing his foray in the world of real estate, Gaur shares, "Gaursons was envisioned with my father BL Gaur in 1995 with a project named Rishab
Apartments which had just 12 flats in Shalimar Bagh. With
our very first project, we earned appreciation of one and
all." Hailing from Ghaziabad, Gaur is born and brought up
in here only. His father was an engineer in the Railway

own construction business. The son joined his father in
the business after completing his graduation. Gaur completed BSc, LLB and then AMI Civil which guided him in

thousands of satisfied customers of Gaursons and delivery

Instead of waiting for things to happen to
him, Ritesh Malik of Creative Thinks
Media took initiative to make his life
change for the better
rom having a career anyone would envy and having worked with a
plethora of big names, Ritesh
Malik, managing director,
Creative Thinks Media chose
to do the unthinkable. He
moved out of the comfort
zone and launched his own
F
venture. Today he is a name
to reckon with in the advertising industry.
Starting and nurturing a
venture is no child's play and
requires a lot of understanding, experience, wisdom and
maturity. As far as the roadblocks are concerned, he
doesn't think he had to face
any obstacles worth mentioning in his entrepreneurial journey. These are things which
are always there in your life at
each and every stage; the art
is to learn how to overcome
them is what he believes. "I
have been very lucky as I got a
good team over a period of
time which has become family to me. Satvinder, Vikrant
and Pradeep have been my
strategy to overcome the
roadblocks and obstacles,"
says Malik.
For him, being an entrepreneur is the best thing that has
ever happened to him. His
success mantra is hard work,
punctuality, discipline, maintaining a high level of transparency with his clients and to
always try and be in a positive
frame of mind with a focussed approach towards
one's organisational goals. "I
always say this-I did my job as
a businessman and I am doing my business as an employee," he adds.

Topping the charts all the way
Vikas Khurana of Essence Communications has contributed to the field of
advertising immensely, making his company one of the best in the field
oming from a family
with no one even remotely connected to advertising, the accomplishments of Vikas Khurana in the
field are exemplary. This
founder-director of Essence
Communications is counted
amongst the most reputed
businessmen in the field of advertising today. Hailing from
Jagadhri, a small place in
C
Haryana, his father runs a logistics business with a fleet of
about 35 trucks and containers
and offices all across the nation. Brimming with fresh
ideas as a young man, he
brought some changes to the
working process of the company. However, early on in the
business, he realised that it
was not his cup of tea. In 2001,
he decided to start a printing
company and called it
Sameera Art. In 2002, he
opened another company
named Forte
Communications, in partnership with one of his friends.
This particular company
opened the doors for him in
the field of advertising. Buoyed
by the success, Khurana decided to enter advertising full
time. He shut all the companies except Sameera Art and
started a brand new company
called Essence
Communications in 2004
based out of Zamrudpur. The
very next year, he met
Anupam Giri from whom he
would get his freelance work
done. Through him, Khurana
understood the importance
of creative design in the field
of advertising.
Their first real estate project
was Mahagun Maestro.
