To be inspired to inspire others...! Serve my own people! ! - Noel Kusunan - Rickson Poki - Angeline Alopea I have chosen to become an airline pilot ever since I was a kid, visiting the control tower at times watching the planes landing and taking off inspired me so much to experience the fun in flying so here I am with Continental Aero Flying School and it has already been great starting in learning confident about my abilities than I ever have one I learn to fly.! I always knew I wanted to fly at an early age. The 1st time I remember This chooses as a carrier option is a sure winner. All in all I’m grateful, thankful for this opportunity given.! getting on a plane was to port Moresby, I remember the plane lining up on the runway ready for take-off, when it started rolling with full power the thr ill I got was indescribable as it picked up speed along the runways until it was airborne, and that feeling ignited my passion from that moment on to one day be that person in front of the cockpit applying full power along the runway and maybe inspire another little boy or girl like me to also have this passion for aviation and take up this amazing career.! 34 www.ContinentalAero.com I have chosen to become an airline pilot because that was my dream ever since I was a kid. I always had a dream to fly in an air line company in my own country. IIt was my dream to serve my own people rather than letting other foreigner serve my people!! Well, thanks to Continental Aero Flying School for fulfilling my dreams. It is one of the best schools I have ever come across. This school had given me the courage and knowledge I needed and I am thankful to God for bringing me to such a school like this.! Flying Time ! Picture by! Telefomin / MAF PNG ONLY PILOT CAN DO Back in the place where I hailed from, it is very mountainous with rugged terrains and fast flowing rivers which isolates it from rest of PNG. No road links nor River or sea to transport Goods and basic services to the 40,000 people of Telefomin. The only access to basic services is by Air. Many small third level airlines are very dedicated and reliable in providing Air Transportation. I'm very challenged to serve my people in Telefomin with pride only through flying since when I was a kid. I think only becoming a pilot can make them feel proud. It was a challenge to me that I still have since when I was a child. I see PNG pilots flying there but since due to remoteness, some left for green pastures. - Solomon Bong 5 www.ContinentalAero.com P R I VAT E P I L OT & COMMERCIAL PILOT The adventure of flying begins with your private pilot’s license. With this license you can venture out into the world of aviation. Whether you plan to fly for fun, give rides to friends and family, provide yourself with transportation, or simply build time and experience for future ratings, it all begins with the private pilot license. While achieving the private pilot license, you will receive instruction in the basic operations of an airplane. Although some people try to finish much of the ground training before they start flying, we feel that the best approach is to integrate the ground training with the flight training. You will be in the cockpit from day one getting hands-on practical experience. Ground training will cover diverse topics such as airport operations, radio procedures, weather, navigation, and more. The first major goal for you is to fly the airplane solo. During your solo flight training you will learn manueuvres such as emergency procedures and takeoffs and landings, as well as how to operate safely at a tower-controlled air port. The first solo flight is an experience that is never forgotten. After solo, you will move onto more advanced lessons covering areas such as night and cross-country flying. ! Whether your professional goal is to fly a Boeing 747, a crop-duster, or a Cessna 172 for hire, you must obtain a commercial pilot’s license. The commercial training focuses on advanced aerodynamics, professionalism, passenger considerations, and the rules and regulations that govern commercial operations. Additionally, the commercial training program will teach you to fly an airplane to higher and more precise standards than were required in the private pilot training program. As a commercial student you will also learn to master the operation of a complex-aircraft. Most students opt to earn an instrument rating after their PPL in the U.S. This is a great way to build the required hours between the private certificate and the commercial certificate. 56 www.ContinentalAero.com SAFETY Fundamental Principles Safety is paramount in all Continental Aero Flying School ground and flight operations. Leadership Vison There are a number of paths to an airline piloting career. Regardless of which path you take, you will ultimately need a combination of pilot certificates and ratings, flight experience, and a great attitude. Importantly you will need to build flight time. One constructive way to do so is to obtain a Certified Flight Instructor License. This will allow you to use your new skills to train other pilots while enhancing your own skills and knowledge, building flight experience, and doing so while earning money. Other options for building single-engine flight time include flying for small cargo operators, crop dusting, pipeline inspecting, or doing sight seeing flights, etc. Once you have acquired a few hundred hours of flight time, it will be time to attempt to get a multiengine flying job. These are more challenging to obtain because the insurance requirements on the operators are more stringent. That is where having a good number of single-engine flight hours will be helpful. We can recommend strong enough the need to network with other pilots who are one or two steps ahead of you. The greatest way to achieve employment in aviation is through the recommendation of a pilot currently employed with the operator where you are applying. Because operators are entrusting their pilot work force with expensive aircraft and the lives of their passengers, character recommendations are almost, if not as important as flight experience. The airline piloting career is a superb way to make a living. We wish each of you the best in your endeavour.! 10 www.ContinentalAero.com Airline Audit Experience & Hiring after the course! ! After receiving your pilot licenses and ratings, you will need to build flight experience. One constructive way is to obtain a Certified Flight Instructor certificate. This will allow you to use your new skills to train other pilots, which should enhance your own skills and knowledge while building your flight experience and earning at the same time. Other options for building single-engine flight time include flying for local radio traffic stations, small cargo operators, crop dusting operators, pipeline inspecting operators, etc. Once you have acquired a few hundred hours of flight time, you can start applying for multi-engine flying jobs. These are more challenging to obtain because the insurance requirements on the operators are more stringent. That’s where having a good number of single-engine flight hours will be helpful. CAFS highly recommends that you network with other pilots who are one or two steps ahead of you. In the next 20 years, the demand for pilots will reach unprecedented levels creating tremendous employment. opportunities for new pilots. Aviation industry suffers not only from shortage of pilots but also qualification of young pilots. Since Pilots are responsible for lives of the passengers, they need to be qualified to pass aptitude test from the School as well as Civil Aviation Authority pilot licensing examinations and check-rides.
