Sport Facilities
The Centro Universitario Sportivo (C.U.S.) of the University of
Pavia carries out competitive activities both in the university
circuit (participation in the University National Championships
and in national and international activities) and in the circuit
of the National Sports Federations in many disciplines,
such as Canoeing, Rowing, Volleyball, Rugby, Fencing and
Archery. Most of the C.U.S. sport facilities are located at a
walking distance from the Faculty of Engineering where the
courses of the Laurea Magistralis in Computer Engineering
are delivered. Please refer to http://cus.unipv.it/ for further
details.

Future has deep roots.
The University of Pavia
The University of Pavia, one of the oldest in Europe, was
founded in 825 A.D, as a school of Law, Science and
Medicine. Many renowned humanists and scientists studied
and taught at the Alma Ticinensis Universitas, mathematicians
such as Gerolamo Cardano, who discovered the Cardanic
joint and the solution to cubic equations, Eugenio Beltrami,
well known for non-Euclidean geometry, physicists such as
Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the battery, physiologists like
Camillo Golgi, awarded the Nobel prize for neural networks,
and many others. Nowadays, the multidisciplinary University
of Pavia includes all disciplines, five campuses hosting about
25000 students and the largest Residence Hall system in Italy.
The University Sports Centre (CUS) offers modern training
facilities.
The School of Engineering offers a Laurea Magistralis
(Master of Science) program in Computer Engineering.
Three basic curricula are offered, respectively on Industrial
Automation, Computer Science and Multimedia, and
Services Engineering. Courses are given in English
by highly-qualified professors with an internationally
recognized scientific activity. The syllabus focuses on
applied mathematics, economics, management and
curriculum-specific subjects. The Industrial Automation
curriculum comprises Automation and Advanced Control
Systems, Process Control and Control of Robotic Systems,
Embedded and Real-time systems. The Computer Science
and Multimedia curriculum includes Multiprocessor
Architectures, Computer Networks, Performance
Evaluation, Multimedia Systems and Technologies,
Computer Vision and Human Computer Interaction.
Service System includes Business Analysis, design of
Enterprise System, Service and WEB Systems Design.
Lectures are integrated by lab activities, seminars and
tutorials, delivered by industry leaders and visiting
professors from all over the world. Students may join a
DMP (Double Master Program) with other Universities. In
this connection, a peer to peer agreement has already
been activated with Chinese Universities, namely Tongji
(Shanghai), HIT (Harbin), UESTC (Chengdu). Under a
DMP, students get two Master Degrees (e.g. a Chinese one
and an Italian one). In a DMP students spend compulsory
semesters in our university and with the DMP partner.
Admission Requirements
A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Software
Engineering, Information Systems, Electronics or similar
topics acknowledged by the Italian Government is
required. In some cases, a legalized translation of Degree
Certificates into Italian by the Italian Consulate is also
required. Lower-income students are entitled to apply for
EDISU scholarships. Please contact the Welcome Point
indicated at the end of this Flyer.
Organizing your stay
A special office has been set up to facilitate the organization
of your stay. The service is established under the supervision

Degree, Internship and Thesis
Our educational activities greatly benefit from the
vibrant international research activity carried out by
faculty assigned to the Computer Engineering Master
Program. Many courses include lab activities where
students can practice and be involved in experiments
relating to course topics. The labs dedicated to teaching
activity are equipped with modern electronic instruments
and computers, as well as state-of-the-art software tools
and experimental set-ups. MS students develop a thesis
with a University of Pavia Tutor. Typically, a thesis is an
innovative project, an experimental system or a research
study. Research activity is performed during the last
MS semester in University labs and/or in companies
and bodies with specific agreements with the University.
Moreover, a PhD School in Electronics, Computer Science
and Electrical Engineering has been operative for over
twenty years at the University of Pavia which is designed
to train researchers with a cultural background which fits
the innovation requirements of today’s Information Society,
from the standpoint of both scientific originality and design
ability.

Career Opportunities
Throughout the International Master Program in Computer
Engineering students will improve their technical and
scientific skills, as well as their ability to operate at an
international level. All the members of the teaching staff
have lasting and fruitful collaborations with leading
companies in Automation, Computer Science and Service
Systems Engineering nationally and internationally.
Interesting job opportunities for graduate students can
be created in Italy and abroad thanks to the involvement
of teaching staff in European or International Projects
involving companies and research centers. Our students
will already be interacting with foreign companies at
the time of their graduation project which can even be
developed abroad with the support of an ERASMUS
Placement.
The University of Pavia is among the universities that possess
the most estensive Residence Hall system in Italy. The
majority of its students are housed in its 15 Halls. The most
ancient ones date back to 1564 (Collegio Borromeo) and
1567 (Collegio Ghislieri), while the two most recent ones
(Collegio Maino and CollegioVolta) were founded in 2000.
Students can choose also other accommodations if they
prefer.

The Language Centre
At the University of Pavia thirty-odd mother-tongue
foreign language experts provide language support
services for staff and students alike. Services include:
Italian as a foreign language: the Language Centre is
an authorized centre for the CILS exam (Certificazione
di Italiano come Lingua Straniera) in Italian as a foreign
language. The Centre runs exam sessions in June and
December leading to the CILS certificate awarded by the
Università per Stranieri di Siena.
