She co-founded Mile Square Theatre in Hoboken, New Jersey, and now serves as Producer for LOCAL in Boulder. Rachel received the 2012 CultureWest Award for Best Season by an Actress. Andrew Russell (Waiter, u/s Nick Carraway) was last seen in the Arvada Center’s production of Legally Blonde. In addition to The Great Gatsby, Andrew can also be seen in Lyle The Crocodile with Arvada Center’s children theater. Andrew is a recent graduate from the University of Northern Colorado and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre. Nicholas Kemner (u/s Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, Waiter) is making his Arvada Center debut. Local credits include: The Rocky Horror Show, Arcadia, The Pillowman (Wit Theatre Company); and Hamlet, The Importance of Being Earnest (73rd Avenue Theatre Company). Nicholas is a graduate of Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington where he received his Bachelor of Arts in General Theatre and Theatre Performance. Scott Fitzgerald (Author, 1896-1940) was an American author of novels and short stories, whose works are the paradigmatic writings of the Jazz Age, a term he coined. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century and is considered a member of the “Lost Generation” of the 1920’s. He finished four novels: This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, The Great Gatsby (his most famous), and Tender Is the Night. A fifth, unfinished novel, The Love of the Last Tycoon, was published posthumously after his death from a heart attack at age 44. Simon Levy (Playwright) is an award-winning theater director and playwright, who has been the Producing Director/ Dramaturg with the Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles since 1993. He has taught Playwriting at University of California, Los Angeles Writer’s Extension, served as a site evaluator for the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council, and is a member of numerous organizations, including the Dramatists Guild, Society for Directors and Choreographers, and Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas. His stage adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby premiered at the Guthrie Theater in 2006. 8 Gavin Mayer (Director) Arvada Center: A Christmas Carol: The Musical, Curtains, Miracle on 34th Street, and Legally Blonde (True West Award Best Musical). Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the School of Theatre at Florida State. Brian Mallgrave (Scenic Designer) serves as Resident Scenic Designer at the Arvada Center. Recent designs include Man of La Mancha (2013 Colorado Theatre Guild Henry Award and 2013 Broadway World Denver Award), Camelot, The Mousetrap, and Blithe Spirit (2013 Henry Award Nominee). He was the recipient of Denver Post’s 2011 Award for Ongoing Achievement in Scenic Design. Other companies for which he has worked locally include Curious Theatre Company and Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Vance McKenzie (Lighting Designer) is a freelance lighting designer working throughout North America. He recently designed A Christmas Carol, A Musical for the Arvada Center, It’s a Wonderful Life for THEATREWORKS and the regional premiere of Jane Eyre at the Lakewood Cultural Center. Other designs include: The 39 Steps at Breckenridge Backstage Theatre; Carry On with Ballet Nouveau Colorado; A Journey of the Human Spirit for the Newman Center; and Miracle on 34th Street for the Arvada Center. Vance has his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Grant Evenson (Sound Designer) has designed numerous children’s theater productions for the Arvada Center, including: A Year with Frog and Toad, Schoolhouse Rock Live, and the currently running Lyle the Crocodile. For the latter two he also engineered and mixed each show’s recorded music accompaniment. Equally at home in the recording studio, Grant has engineered for clients such as Hewlett Packard, Gannett, and Fox’s King of the Hill. Combining studio and stage disciplines, Grant’s sound designs are unique in that they often feature a large number of sound effects and production elements he recorded specifically for the production. Clare Henkel (Costume Designer) designed costumes for Nine (2011 Ovation Award), Miss Saigon, Cabaret, Sunset Boulevard, Ragtime, Twelfth Night, Chess, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Dividing the Estate, Camelot, and End of the Rainbow. Also Denver Center Theatre Company, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Old Globe Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego and San Jose Repertory Theatres, Aurora Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company, Dallas Theatre Center, Geva Theatre, Indianapolis Symphony’s Pops Consortium (including Carnegie Hall), Sacramento Theatre Company, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Idaho Shakespeare Festivals, and Maxim Gorky Theatre in Vladivostok, Russia. Diana has been the Wig Master at Denver Center Theatre Company for the last 19 seasons, where her credits include: Sense and Sensibility, White Christmas (Buell Theatre), A Christmas Carol, and Tantalus, to name only a few. Kurtz (Production Stage Manager) has been at the Arvada Center since 1995. She started on the running crew, moved into stage management and has been in this position ever since. E D U C AT I O N Students on Stage Summer Camps Arvada Center Summer Camp 2014 is a fun and creative way for children to explore dancing, acting, singing, painting, drawing, and more throughout the summer. We have almost 200 camp offerings this summer and are sure to have the perfect drama, visual art, music or dance camp for campers age 3 to 18. Our drama camp students will be performing in a variety of productions this summer. You don’t have to be a parent or friend of these young thespians to appreciate these great performances.
