Farm Fresh Reference Guide 2013 - 2014
1
Best Wishes from the
BC Ministry of Agriculture
What better place to discover new sources for local food than in the 2013 Fraser Valley Farm Fresh Guide?
British Columbians want to access fresh, locally-grown agrifood products and this guide will help you find them.
Our province has a very diverse food industry. Building the local market for B.C. foods is a key commitment of
government’s Agrifoods Strategy, a component of the B.C. Jobs Plan, to lead the agrifoods sector growth into
a $14-billion-a-year industry by 2017.
British Columbia produces more than 200 farm commodities and more than 100 species of fish, shellfish and
marine plants. Thanks to our hard-working producers and processors, the agrifoods sector generated close
to $11 billion in revenues in 2011 and directly employed 61,000 British Columbians.
Here in B.C. we have access to some of the healthiest, natural ingredients in our foods. When you buy local,
you not only provide fresh, nutritious meals for your family; you are also supporting B.C. farmers and producers
which, in turn, supports the B.C. economy.
The Fraser Valley Farm Fresh Guide is much more than a directory of places to buy local agrifoods products. It also offers the opportunity for you
and your family to explore the Valley - to meet the farmers, to learn more about where your food comes from and how it was produced, and to
have fun doing it.
Take a farm tour, go berry picking, lose yourself in a corn maze, visit a vineyard or an on-farm store - the choices are endless.
We want to continue to build the passion for local foods in British Columbia. To keep up to date on the latest in B.C. foods and beverages I
encourage you to visit: https://www.facebook.com/FoodsBC

BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation
BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation offers a variety
of different programs that help educate students on the
value of agriculture. Whether students are digging in the
garden or receiving some of BC’s best produce in the
classroom, making sure they know where their food comes
from is what we do best.
The BC School Fruit and Vegetable Nutritional Program,
delivers fruits and veggies to over 1,400 BC public and
First Nations schools throughout the province. The program
gives students the chance to try a wide range of different
produce, from baby cucumbers and peppers to apples
and blueberries. Thanks to local growers who provide the
fruits and veggies for the program, students have a greater
appreciation of what it takes to produce food.
Student chefs on the Take a Bite of BC are realizing
how much better cooking can taste with fresh, locally
produced product. 37 secondary school teaching kitchens
participating in the program receive product from local
producers at no cost. The generosity of these producers’
product donations gives student chefs the opportunity to
work with fresh, top quality product

Encouraging students to grow their own food is another
important way to get them to appreciate how hard farmers
work to produce food for us. The Spuds in Tubs program
gives students and teachers the tools and instructions on
how to grow their very own potatoes right in the classroom.
Since the students monitor the potatoes very closely from
the time they plant them in March to the time they harvest
in June, it instills in many of them a love of growing things
that will hopefully carry on into adulthood. They get to
experience the “highs” and “lows” of growing food, just like
a farmer!
This spring we have partnered with the BC Dairy
Association to add milk to the BC School Fruit and
Vegetable Nutritional Program for K-2 students. We’re
excited to add a new dimension to the program and create
great new partnerships within the Dairy industry.
Thanks to the partnership of so many valued BC growers
we can continue to educate BC students on the value of
supporting agriculture in our community.

W
elcome to the 2013 - 2014 edition of the Farm Fresh Reference Guide – the
18th year of operation. Our farmers sell what they produce either directly from
their farms or at area farmers’ markets. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself
with the Guide and our website at bcfarmfresh.com. Please continue to support
your local farmers, the people who bring you fresh, wholesome, quality farm
products for your families.
The Farm Fresh Reference Guide and our website at bcfarmfresh.com have
been very important contributors to consumer acceptance of local farm fresh
products. Consumers continue to contact us to find area farms where they can
get the fresh, nutritious local food that they are looking for. Take a look at our
product index. You will find a wide range of local food and other agricultural
products available. I urge you to be open to trying new products and visiting all
of the farms in our Guide this year.
On behalf of our farmers, I extend a special thank you to our many customers
and the advertisers who support our farmers. The Guide is available at all our
listed farms, but it is also distributed by various businesses such as Otter Coop,
Minter Country Garden and the Vancouver Public library. Also, the Fraser Valley
Library system helps us to distribute Guides through their member libraries as
do many other public facilities such as Tourist Bureau. Most farmers’ markets in
the area will have farm fresh guides available and we are present at most major
agricultural events in this area.

For your convenience, farms in
this guide are listed East to West
and are listed alphabetically in the
