The line for photos was nearly as long as the line to the food. Students didn’t want to miss getting that perfect party shot while they were in great clothes and looked goooood! Hayley Berry, Judy Bleau, Dalton Trumbo, Dick Tracy, Lillian Hellman and Ryland Brant prom committee Karen Gillis and Duy Tran were cochairmen of the prom committee. They were responsible for planning the prom from the ground up, including theme ideas, colors, running elections, listening to bands, and testing out caterers. Alisha Keyes, Demi Lovato and Lucy Liu “We had a big job and felt swamped most of this year,” Duy said. He and Karen were junior class president and vicepresident respectively. The junior class sponsors the prom annually for seniors with the considerable help of committee members, faculty and PTA groups. Karen said, “We did get to have some fun listening to local bands. We couldn’t make up our minds, so we hired three of them to play.” Kim Khardasian, Little Kim, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barryless 6 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 6 QUEEN & KING Christina Ricci and Kyle Hudson were elected this year’s prom king and queen. Christina is president of the National Honor Society as well as serving as secretary on the Student Council. Kyle is a member of the Student Council, president of Key Club, and was named all-state quarterback this year. Both are slated for UCLA, he in engineering and she in pre-med. They have been going steady since sophomore year. EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 8 Rashonda Clements and her parents Robbie Franks, Drury Lane and her dad MEET THE PARENTS 9 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 Although most dating couples knew each other’s parents, there were the new daters who were just getting to know each other. Meeting parents was a stressful, but necessary step for guys to do in order to go to prom with their dream girls. “I was so nervous meeting Drury’s parents that I wasn’t paying attention and I knocked their mailbox off its stand when I drove up, Drury’s dad was way cool and told me that he would fix it, but that I’d have to be careful driving with her in the car,” said Robbie Franks. Reata Jones, Donte’s mother, pulled a good trick on her son. “I never told Donte that I had called Rashonda’s parents so we could meet each other. We acted really serious when the kids came to be introduced and made them nervous. Then we told them what we’d done,” she said. Mugging for the camera are Mr. Damon Daily, father of Sally Daily, and Sally’s boyfriend, Norman Bates. (Right) Julissa Montoya’s older sister, Odelon, said that she meets every guy Julissa dates. Julissa hugs Odelon goodbye, while Taz Santiago gets the door for her. Say goodbye, Norman. Sally is ready to rock and roll at the prom. 10 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 10 ! S R E CHE TIMES! Do Your Thing! From the time they walked in, the girls were under review. Nominations for gown honors came in fast and furiously. Winners received year-long movie passes and restaurant freebies. All colors, all styles were in the running. The PTA furnished ballots when students registered at the door and were told to observe every dress and report their favorites. Black Beauty - Jessica Alba Most Fun - zany Annie Lennox Most Princesslike - Julie Andrews EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 12 Dream Machines 13 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 Yes! A Woody! Double Decker! Nothing says success like a fancy tricked-out ride to the prom. Some kids rented a hot-air balloon to sail away into the sunset, while others preferred the lazy, romantic clip clop of a horse’s hooves pulling a cabriolet. Limousines came in all sizes and styles. The wild woody stretch Explorer and giant white Hummer caused a lot of shock and awe, but even they couldn’t match the élan of the big blue Jag easy rider. EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 14 SENIOR STARS Prom is always the great send off for seniors everywhere. It’s their party, thanks to the junior class, faculty and PTAs. For the past four years, current seniors have looked forward to two things…walking across a stage and accepting a certificate of graduation and the big bash that celebrates their achievements. These seniors are either best friends or romantically attached. But it meant good tidings for their sales. Nearly every senior sent a flower to his or her choice as a prom date, asking that guy or gal to go. It was a fun and pretty way of avoiding face- to-face contact and possible embarrassment if the answer were “no.” Happily, most students reported that they got the date they asked for. 20 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 Jose, Mrs. Orton, Thanks for everything you’ve done for us. Lexie Bell, junior, has tried on 23 dresses and still hasn’t decided. Girls look for color, symmetry and flexibility. They want dresses that won’t constrict their movements. Dancing is hard work and a dress has to be able to stand up to it. Guys want a tuxedo that makes them stand out when they walk their dates into the dance. That first impression is important. Should a guy have a flat color or a high collar.? Should he have a cummerbund the color of his date’s dress or not? How about a white jacket over tux pants as a change instead of basic black.? Are white tie and tails in this season? The questions go on and on, while the expenses mount up. But that’s okay since the seniors have been working for years to prepare for this one night of passage into adulthood. She is just one of 209 senior girls who attended this year’s prom at the Menlo Park Country Club. PROM 2013 Tatiana Wilson and Dr e Martin proudly posed in fro nt of their posse before going to prom. Evening in Twilight was the prom theme which gave a nod to the Twilight film series by using posters of sites in Rome. 25 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 C oordinating the color scheme of formalwear was a major endeavor. Could the guys get the propercolored cummerbund? Could the dress be a little tighter? Would the store dye the shoes to match? We didn’t forget our rides, the all-important chariots of fun. A stretch Hummer or horse and carriage? The prom committee was frantically decorating, setting up photography alcoves, stringing lights, adjusting curtains and building sets, as well as constructing stages for the three bands to use just two hours before prom began. “We wanted the seniors to have a memorable prom, so we tried to do our best. The problem was that we were too tired to enjoy it ourselves,” said Courtney Wallace, cochairman of the committee. Duncan Mcleod, Sheila Sweeney and Bella Argent model their formalwear in an ad for Whatchamacallit Clothes Company. the Matthew Broderick had la ge right plan to get An Perkins to be his date for d prom. “Flowers, food an a good movie!” he said. EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 26 EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 26 Post-Prom BEACH BONFIRES PARTIES! 27 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 If you’re lucky enough to live near the ocean or lake, then prom after party locations were easy to find. After spending several hours in tuxes with starched collars and ties, and tight dresses, seniors enjoyed kicking off those formal togs and getting down and grungy. No shoes, no problem. It’s bonfires and barbecue for a two a.m. boost and midnight swimming to refresh. Boom boxes blared great music while we roasted marshmallows and s’mores. The PTA parents did yeoman service providing plenty of food fuel and energy drinks as we partied the night away. Toward dawn, we dropped like rocks onto the sweet, soft beach sand for a good nap. “The beach was the ultimate post-prom party location!” “Sand, surf, friends, music...what could be better!? - Selena Jenkins - Caleb Sanderson “A fantasic way to end my senior year. Amazing memories were created tonight!” - Deena Wilkes “I don’t know which was better... the prom or the post-prom party!” - Jackson Underwood The morning sun woke us up from an exhausted night partying after prom. It was the best prom in ages, according to most of the seniors who attended. Bands from four different counties came to show out for music committee members. Marsha Sparks, junior class vice president, said,” We advertised before Christmas over the radio and by January 15, we had 31 bands lined up. We knew we would hear some good music, but we needed a band that could play for dancing as well as listening.” The result of this time-consuming enterprise was that three bands really stood out. “We couldn’t decide on which of the three until our principal said take them all and he would pay them through the general fund, “ said Terry Allison, junior class president. Razor Sharp practicing their set in the Edison High school hallway before their audition 31 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 Non-stop action meant that confetti and corsages flew across the dance floor and everybody got into the excitement of an Evening in Twilight. Unique to this the prom was a battle of the bands, which allowed seniors and their dates to dance to a variety of rhythms and beats. “We jammed best we could, but we didn’t measure up,” Danny Devine, Scalplock (L-R) Celtic Fire warmed up the auditions Joey John Prince was a busy soloist The Ice Bergs didn’t snow the judges The Jazzmen were a little too sophisticated for a prom Torchwood heated up with some western music BATTLE OF THE PROM BANDS TORCHWOOD 32 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 RAZOR SHARP CELTIC FIRE EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 32 ASK THE SENIORS... What ’ s so important about attending your prom? “I think that prom is great because it means you’re a senior and this is my party.” - Jeremy Irons “My band gets to play a set during prom. That’s great for us.” - Derrick Domino “It’s important to me because I’m in the prom court this year.” - Trisha Eddings “This is our last time to be together in a fun way before graduation. We’ll remember this forever because it’s so special.” - Wendy Chang “I love to dress up and have a great time dancing.” -Gayla Duncan “We don’t have this in Japan and I think it’s cool.” - Hiro Kamata 33 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 My Prom MY STORY Brandon Cailyn randon B & a e m m e urpl J P for Passion 43 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 Purple’s mystical qualities bind beauty and love forever. Jemma and Brandon both love purple and chose it as their prom colors. “Since the theme was Evening in Twilight, we thought it would be great to show up as Bella and Edward,” she said. They even brought cupcakes that echoed their fashion sense and shared with the other seniors at the prom. Brandon said, “I had a great time because nobody else was a well-coordinated as we were. Our parents rented us a Porsche like Alice’s.” Shiloh Bakery donated the purple/chocolate cupcakes for the prom. Cupid’s arrow went Gothic. Brandon Paul and Jemma Duffy EDISON EDISONHIGH HIGHSCHOOL SCHOOLPROM PROM2013 2013 II 42 42 t h A Twilig of Full onds m Dia ost of the hard work for the prom this year was done by the Junior Class, which presented one of the most spectacular events in the history of Edison. Class president, Julia Chappell, said, “We were able to earn a lot of money over the past two years with our projects. Several business owners’ kids are in the senior class and they really donated so that we could have a fireworks show.” Two local caterers and a bakery provided all the food for the seniors as well. The Shadow Creek Country Club opened its doors for the one-night event. 41 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 Twilight and midnight stars exploded into a fountain of shining beauty that we’ll remember for a lifetime. “For it was not into my ear that you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.” (Judy Garland) EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 40 Say It With Flowers and There Will Be Joy White orchids tell the story of a boy and a girl who were secret romantics and secretly admiring of each other. Both were too shy to say so until she found two beautiful tiny white orchids hidden safely in her book bag one day in English. 39 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 F lowers speak volumes when it comes to the human heart. Cailyn O’Conner and Luke Winters were secretly hoping to make contact with each other, but because they were too shy, nothing happened until their junior year in Mr. Foley’s English class. “We had just studied Walt Whitman’s When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed and I thought those flowers sounded pretty. I went to the florist and bought what I thought were lilacs, but turned out to be white orchids. But, Cailyn loved them anyway,” Luke said. EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 I 38 any a love note passed back and forth between Cailyn and Luke over the next two years. “I kept all of the ones he wrote me,” she said. Her favorite notes are the ones Luke scribbled on lunch sacks and scraps of paper 37 I EDISON HIGH SCHOOL PROM 2013 he found. “I don’t know why he never used notebook paper since that would have been easier.” Luke explained, “I think notebook paper is boring. I always looked for some crazy ways to say ‘I love you’ to her.” The prom request is her favorite note. Limousines added to the magical Evening in Twilight prom this year. There were many different kinds of rides, from Brandon and Jemma’s Porsche to a horse-drawn cabriolet. And her answer was simply “yes.” And then the love story became a reality within the magical framework of a mystical movie theme and dinner dance. Lights! Camera! Action!
