rior to June 22, 2015, Warwick
Township did not have a “primary”
provider of EMS. The Township was
divided into “boxes,” serviced by
Warminster Ambulance (approximately
60% of Warwick Township), Warrington
Ambulance (approximately 30% of
Warwick Township), Central Bucks
Ambulance (approximately 5% of
Warwick Township), and Tri-Hampton Rescue (approximately 5% of Warwick
Township). An attempt was made over a decade ago by Warminster
Ambulance to stage an ambulance in Warwick. No adjustments were made
to dispatch protocols, and this attempt failed.
Recent years have seen a significant increase in demand for service from
those entities providing EMS to Warwick Township. Call volumes are
trending upward, and have increased about 15% since 2010. To put some
perspective on these numbers, in 2014, EMS responded into Warwick just
under twice a day. These calls vary, from the life threatening emergencies
presented by cardiac arrests, to basic life support responses for lift assists.
A “false alarm” in EMS is rare. The ambulance may not always transport a
patient to the hospital, but it is unusual for there to be no patient on an EMS call.
Also note that EMS calls sometimes are received simultaneously. Just
under 10% of the time, a second ambulance call is received in Warwick
before the ambulance finishes at the first call. This results in a mutual aid
response, from an ambulance further away. Furthermore, that number does
not reflect the number of times that the 1st due ambulance is on a call
outside of Warwick (primarily Warminster and Warrington). This also

WARWICK TOWNSHIP ADULT PICKLEBALL (AGES 20 & UP)
Delivery of EMS services in Warwick Township...continued from cover
Location: Pickleball Courts
2045 Guinea Lane (back of park) – use
driveway with split rail fence and follow to
the back
Pickleball is a game with elements of tennis,
badminton, and ping pong. Played with a
paddle and hard plastic ball, it provides hours
of fun for active adults, frequently replacing
other activities as their primary recreation. Warwick Township
Pickleball began in spring 2013 and grew from 2 to 247
members playing. The Township has six dedicated pickleball
courts ready for use.
To see what we’re about visit us at www.meetup.com/warwicktownship-pickleball. Interested potential players, both new
and experienced will find that we have a lot to offer. The
group now features four levels of play from social to
advanced. All groups have a minimum opportunity of 3 to
4 meetups per week. Since 2013 we have had over 800
meetup sessions and average well over 200 player
experiences per week in season.
New players are required to register for social and
beginner player sessions (listed on the meetup website).
All players must be registered on both the meetup site listed
above and at www.warwickrec.com. All funds collected go
toward the program costs as the organizers and event hosts
are 100% volunteers.
Experienced players can request evaluation and will be
assigned a group designation. Advanced players or players
with USAPA ratings will be placed accordingly. Paddles will be
provided for initial instruction with players. After an initial
period, players provide their own paddles. Township provides
balls, first aid supplies, an AED for all scheduled meetup
sessions and instruction for new players. Funds collected are
also used for windscreens, improvements to parking area,
triggers a mutual aid response from an ambulance further away. Our mutual aid ambulances sometimes came from
as far away as Hatboro and Chalfont, and occasionally even further.
Warwick Township officials executed an agreement to place an ambulance on Dark Hollow Road, beginning on
June 22, 2015. Placement of an ambulance in Warwick has had the following positive results:
• An ambulance is significantly closer to most, if not all EMS calls in Warwick Township;
• For the first time, paramedics often arrive at EMS calls BEFORE police;
• An ambulance almost ALWAYS arrives sooner now, than it would have prior to June 2015;
• An additional ambulance will be added to the resource pool serving Warwick Township and our entire region.
The ambulances we rely on to come into Warwick from the outside are seeing increased demands and reduced
availability to come to Warwick emergencies. Also, a significant increase in Warwick call volume is expected in 2016,
when the Bridges at Warwick assisted living facility opens.
Anecdotally, there have been several dramatic “saves” by our
local paramedics. The most recent was on October 11, 2015. EMS
and police were dispatched to a cardiac arrest call in Hidden Pond.
The ambulance was at the house with the victim in approximately
2 minutes. Police officers were even closer, and were already
performing CPR when the medics arrived. The medics took over
treatment, and applied a defibrillator. By the time medics got the
patient to the hospital, he was awake and talking.
Earlier in October, EMS and police were dispatched to a call for
cardiac symptoms in Heritage Creek. Medics determined that the patient was indeed experiencing a heart attack,
but noticed the patient’s spouse was also in distress. It turned out both husband and wife were suffering
simultaneous heart attacks. Both were transported to Doylestown Hospital and are expected to recover.
During an otherwise uneventful mid-October morning, EMS in the Warminster-Warwick-Warrington-Southampton
area got inundated with calls. Within an hour, ambulances were dispatched to crashes at Bristol/Valley (2 ambulances,
one each from Warminster and Warrington), Almshouse/Watson (Tri-Hampton), York/Ivyland (Warminster), and a
cardiac arrest at Southampton Estates (Warminster Ambulance into Upper Southampton). The EMS system was
stressed to the point that tow trucks arrived at the Almshouse/Watson crash before the ambulance. These brief
periods of furious activity are happening more often, typically at least once a month. The presence of the
Warwick/Warminster ambulance works to reduce the frequency and severity of these instances, and significantly
improves life-saving service to our residents and the community.

The Village Improvement Association of
Doylestown (VIA) is delighted to announce
that the 41st Bucks County Designer House
& Gardens will be located for the first time
in Warwick Township. The community can
“experience the transformation” of a
quintessential 19th century farmhouse on
nine acres at Foxwood Manor, 1596 Turkey
Trot Road, Jamison PA. More than 30
professional designers and landscapers
will be enhancing this home and restoring its beauty.
The women of the VIA and its Bucks County Designer House &
Gardens committee will host this fundraising event from May 1 - 29.
Proceeds from the event benefit Doylestown Hospital and the
organization’s mission to enhance the quality of life in the community
through service and education. The VIA greatly appreciates the support
of Warwick Township and its residents for this worthwhile event and
takes its role seriously as temporary residents of this wonderful
community. The VIA will do its utmost to be a considerate, good
neighbor during this short time.
The first activity is the Empty House Party on February 28, 2–5 pm,
when visitors can explore the house and grounds before interior and
exterior designers begin to work. Design boards will be on display in
the undecorated areas depicting the future room plan including style,
color, furniture, fabric and accessory selections; designers will share
their vision and process for bringing out the unique beauty of this home.
Guests will enjoy lite fare and refreshments from several area eateries,
breweries and wineries, along with music, raffles and a silent auction
of distinctive gift baskets. Over the next several weeks, designers and
landscapers will be hard at work bringing out the beauty of Foxwood
Manor. At the elegant Preview Gala on April 29, 7–10 pm, (VIP reception
6-7 pm), guests will be the first to see the transformation revealed while
enjoying gourmet hors d’oeuvres, buffet dinner, open bar and music.
The 41st Bucks County Designer House & Gardens at Foxwood
Manor will open to the public for House Tours May 1 – 29. Visitors
should plan to spend two hours touring the house, pool area, pool
house, spring house, expansive grounds and gardens. The Designer
House will be a shopper’s delight with designer décor available for
purchase as well as unique accessories, fashions and crafts available
in the Carriage House boutiques. Visitors may also enjoy a quiet respite
at the café to enjoy a lite lunch, snack or a variety of hot and cold
beverages.
This month long event is the largest fundraiser held by the Village
Improvement Association of Doylestown, (VIA), a non-profit
organization. The VIA was founded in 1895 by women who were
concerned that dusty Bucks County roads caused a variety of healthrelated issues for their families. Fourteen women gathered on April 26,
1895 to form the VIA and dedicated their efforts to improving the quality
of life in the Central Bucks community. What began as a grass-roots
effort to address health concerns evolved and the group established
the first visiting nurse service in Doylestown. In 1923, they founded
Doylestown Hospital and VIA members continue to oversee the
governance of this award-winning health care system.
The efforts of the VIA extend
beyond health services to support the
local community. It offers one-time
grants
to
community
efforts;
educational
scholarships
for
outstanding high school seniors
pursuing health-related careers and
women seeking professional careers.
Through its Welfare Fund, the VIA
provides a variety of support through
local agencies and social services for those in the community with
emergency needs.
The VIA is excited to share a vision for the future: Doylestown Hospital
is meeting the growing demand and interest in cardio-thoracic and
vascular services by embarking on a transformative renovation and
expansion of the heart center within the Richard A. Reif Heart Institute.
These renovations will be designed to broaden services and enhance
patient safety and privacy. They encompass expanded patient areas,
additional clinical space including state-of-the-art technologies and a
new technologically-advanced Endovascular Surgery Suite. To help the
Heart-Institute-of-the-future become a reality, a portion of proceeds from
the 2016 Designer House will be earmarked to support this effort. Early
investors serve as a driving force to kick off this critical initiative at
Doylestown Hospital.
For information about the Bucks County Designer House & Gardens,
please visit BucksCountyDesignerHouse.org or call 215-345-2191. For

PHASE 2 ON-LOT SEWAGE VISUAL INSPECTION FORMS FOR 2016
By Nancy Ehrmann-Cheatle, Code Enforcement Officer
In January 2016, theTownship sent letters to all households in phase 2 of the Warwick
Township on-lot sewage management program. These households are required to
have their on-lot sewage system pumped by December 31, 2016. They must file a
visual inspection form that is to be filled out by their waste hauler. We also need
a copy of the receipt from their hauler.
Warwick Township is requesting that anyone who is part of phase 2, return their
completed forms to us as soon as possible. If you have lost or misplaced your
form, you can obtain a copy by going to our website at warwick-bucks.org (permits
and forms) or you can pick them up at the Township administration building.
In 2011, Warwick Township adopted the on-lot sewage maintenance ordinance to
ensure basic maintenance of on-lot septic systems in the Township. Septic tanks must
be pumped at intervals not to exceed three years. You only need to register for the program one
time but you will be notified every three years in reference to pumping your tank. Pumping your
tank regularly will greatly reduce the chance of accumulated solids escaping the tank and clogging
other components, especially the drainfield, which is the most critical component of most septic
systems. In addition, pumping the tank wregularly will prolong the life of any on-lot system.

WHAT IS EMERALD ASH BORER?
merald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire, is an exotic beetle that was discovered in
southeastern Michigan near Detroit in the summer of 2002. The adult beetles nibble on ash foliage but
cause little damage. The larvae (the immature stage) feed on the inner bark of ash trees, disrupting the tree's
ability to transport water and nutrients. Emerald ash borer probably arrived in the United States on solid wood
packing material carried in cargo ships or airplanes originating in its native Asia. Emerald ash borer feeds
exclusively on ash trees in North America. Tens of millions of ash trees have been lost to this pest, which
usually kills ash trees within 3-4 years of infestation.

Soccer Stars 1
NEW
It's never too early to develop a child's love of soccer
and athletics. Our Soccer Starters program is the
perfect introduction to soccer basics, promoting
physical fitness, creating a positive attitude,
developing coordination, and sportsmanship.
Instructor ratios are kept small to ensure each child
gets the much needed individual attention. We know
the importance of first getting kids interested and
motivated before they are able to absorb the
necessary lessons. Thematic games and fun
exercises are designed to inspire and challenge
young players, but also allow them to meet with
successes that keep them interested in learning
more. Learning the fundamentals, and developing a
love for the game starts here. Kids that start with us
have a real advantage as they mature. We believe it
is our duty and privilege to get your kids started off
right and develop a passion for the game that will
last a lifetime.

Soccer Stars 1
It's never too early to develop a child's love of
soccer and athletics. Our Soccer Starters program
is the perfect introduction to soccer basics,
promoting physical fitness, creating a positive
attitude,
developing
coordination,
and
sportsmanship. Instructor ratios are kept small to
ensure each child gets the much needed
individual attention. We know the importance of
first getting kids interested and motivated before
they are able to absorb the necessary lessons.
Thematic games and fun exercises are designed
to inspire and challenge young players, but also
allow them to meet with successes that keep
them interested in learning more. Learning the
fundamentals, and developing a love for the game
starts here. Kids that start with us have a real
advantage as they mature. We believe it is our
duty and privilege to get your kids started off right
and develop a passion for the game that will last
a lifetime.

Soccer Stars 1
It's never too early to develop a child's love of
soccer and athletics. Our Soccer Starters program
is the perfect introduction to soccer basics,
promoting physical fitness, creating a positive
attitude,
developing
coordination,
and
sportsmanship. Instructor ratios are kept small to
ensure each child gets the much needed
individual attention. We know the importance of
first getting kids interested and motivated before
they are able to absorb the necessary lessons.
Thematic games and fun exercises are designed
to inspire and challenge young players, but also
allow them to meet with successes that keep
them interested in learning more. Learning the
fundamentals, and developing a love for the game
starts here. Kids that start with us have a real
advantage as they mature. We believe it is our
duty and privilege to get your kids started off right
and develop a passion for the game that will last
a lifetime.

It's never too early to develop a child's love of soccer
and athletics. Our Soccer Starters program is the
perfect introduction to soccer basics, promoting
physical fitness, creating a positive attitude,
developing coordination, and sportsmanship.
Instructor ratios are kept small to ensure each child
gets the much needed individual attention. We know
the importance of first getting kids interested and
motivated before they are able to absorb the
necessary lessons. Thematic games and fun
exercises are designed to inspire and challenge
young players, but also allow them to meet with
successes that keep them interested in learning
more. Learning the fundamentals, and developing a
love for the game starts here. Kids that start with us
have a real advantage as they mature. We believe it
is our duty and privilege to get your kids started off
right and develop a passion for the game that will
last a lifetime.

REMINDER

It offers one-time
grants
to
community
efforts;
educational
scholarships
for
outstanding high school seniors
pursuing health-related careers and
women seeking professional careers.

• An ambulance is significantly closer to most, if not all EMS calls in Warwick Township;
• For the first time, paramedics often arrive at EMS calls BEFORE police;
• An ambulance almost ALWAYS arrives sooner now, than it would have prior to June 2015;
The presence of the
Warwick/Warminster ambulance works to reduce the frequency and severity of these instances, and significantly
improves life-saving service to our residents and the community.

rior to June 22, 2015, Warwick
Township did not have a “primary”
provider of EMS. The Township was
divided into “boxes,” serviced by
Warminster Ambulance (approximately
60% of Warwick Township), Warrington
Ambulance (approximately 30% of
Warwick Township), Central Bucks
Ambulance (approximately 5% of
Warwick Township), and Tri-Hampton Rescue (approximately 5% of Warwick
Township). An attempt was made over a decade ago by Warminster
Ambulance to stage an ambulance in Warwick. No adjustments were made
to dispatch protocols, and this attempt failed.
Recent years have seen a significant increase in demand for service from
those entities providing EMS to Warwick Township. Call volumes are
trending upward, and have increased about 15% since 2010. To put some
