On her 84th birthday, she invites her family, a few close friends and a taxi driver to celebrate her life as a painter. The celebration is an opportunity for Virgie to own up to what most of them already know – how the family have coped with a singleminded mother who chose the painter’s easel over the kitchen sink. What they don’t know and which engulfs them like a lorry load of bricks, is Virgie’s intended birthday gift to them. The content of After Electra runs deep, but the rapier wit that April de Angelis gifts to her characters shines a joyful light on the very darkest subject matter. £10.00 - £12.00.
