Why Arnprior?
The recent expansion of Highway 417
to four lanes west of Ottawa and
continued work west of the town of
Arnprior has brought Arnprior even
closer to Ottawa, and has now truly
become a bedroom community.
New home construction over the past several years has been consistent with three separate
neighbourhoods enjoying continued growth as people are choosing Arnprior as a financial
alternative to the Ottawa housing market. There are currently over 150 new homes available for
sale with over 100 planned for construction.
Currently under construction is a new French language Catholic elementary school being built by
the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) which will accept over 250 full time
students and 36 day-care spaces for the September 2017 session. This school will service many
communities near Arnprior, as the closest school as of now is over 50 kilometres away in the west
end of Ottawa.
The Arnprior Shopping Centre on Daniel Street South is being redeveloped this summer as the new
owners (CT REIT) are renovating the existing building to allow for the relocation of its store on the
adjacent site to the north into a larger location. There will be a reconfiguration to the interior of the
mall as they re-brand the mall as an outdoor mall with access to all shops from outside.
The town is also progressing with
its downtown revitalization
program due to be completed in
2017, bring back the classic
warmth, beauty and charm to the
downtown area. All businesses
will remain open during the
construction period.
The road construction should be
limited to John Street for the 2016
season.

Why Arnprior?
With the high-tech sector of Kanata back on the rise, and the new National Defense campus at Carling
Avenue less than 30 minutes away, Arnprior is becoming a very attractive alternative to the east end of
Ottawa. National Defense will relocate over 8,500 personnel to the DND campus (the former Nortel
Campus) at Carling Avenue and Moodie Drive. These staff members will come from existing locations
in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. The site is midway between the DND Carling Campus and Garrison
Petawawa, offering an ideal location for DND staff employed at either facility.
Constant upgrades to Highway 417 through Ottawa coupled with construction for LRT (Light Rail
Transit) and the City of Ottawa’s improvement program for the 150th anniversary in 2017 leaves the
commute from the east end of the city to the Carling campus problematic at best. Phase 1 of the LRT
gets as far west as Tunney's’ Pasture by 2018, while Phase 2 gets as far west as Bayshore Shopping
Centre by 2023. With travel times of less than 30 minutes from Arnprior to the 416/417 interchange,
Arnprior becomes a very attractive alternative to east end living. With average house prices for
Orleans at $360,000 for May 2016, an average house price of $226,000 in Arnprior becomes very
attractive.
