Let’s Test our Science! 1) You have two bars of iron. One is magnetized along its length, the other is not. Without using any other instrument and avoiding north south direction basis, can you find out which is which? 2) Place 2 fingers at the end of a yard stick. Slowly move the finger toward each other. As you will discover always meet in the middle of yard stick. Now place both finger in the middle of stick. Slowly try moving the two of them out to the opposite ends. This time you will find that one finger remains in the middle while other moves to the end. Can u explain why? 3) A clever scientist in his lab can bring pure water to a vigorous boil, then immediately pour the water over his head without scalding himself. How does he do it? 4) Is balancing a baseball bat vertically on your hand easier with the larger end at the top or with the smaller end at the top? Support Your Answer. 5) You're on a train that's moving forward at 50 mph. You throw a ball in the direction that the train is moving. Relative to you and the train, the ball leaves your hand travelling at 20 mph. From the point of view of someone standing alongside the tracks, how fast is the ball moving? 6) How can you sink a needle that is floating in a bowl of water without touching it, dropping anything on it, or shaking the bowl? 7 “The finest task for an Engineer – to survey, to plan, to suggest resources and material, assemble them for task in hand, implement and produce results” -SIR M.VISVESVARAYA - 7) If a light oxygen tank were tied to a bird so that it can breathe on the moon, would the bird fly faster, slower or the same speed as it does on earth? (Remember that there is less gravity on the moon) 8) Two identical jars are placed on a scale, each with one fruit fly in it. One fly is flying and the other one is sitting. Which jar weighs more & why? 9) You have a cup of water with one cube of ice in it. When the ice cube melts would there be more water, the same amount of water, or less water in the cup? 10) It is estimated that the earth weighs 6 sextillion tons. How much more would the earth weigh if one sextillion tons of concrete and stone were used to build a large wall?
