Crafts Council Nederland
Dutch Belief Crafts Council Nederland At Révélations Grand Palais, Paris 09-13 September 2015 Floris Wubben Crafts Council Nederland believes in: Studio Floris Wubben represents the latest generation of craftsman/designer. His work is positioned at the intersection of functional product and sculptural work. The machines, designed by Wubben for the manufacturing of products, are an important part of the creative process. Characteristic forms are the outcome of the combination of the use of natural materials and the influence of the maker on the production process. •6 The importance and innovation of crafts. • 6Innovation that emerges from tradition. • 6A renewed implementation of materials 6 and techniques. • 6New and sustainable production methods. • A revived significance for crafts. The current revaluation of crafts can be seen as a sign of the times: in times of uncertainty we return to what is familiar and safe. But this interest in crafts goes beyond a nostalgic throwback to old traditions. Crafts represent a thoughtful way of design and making and are focused on a long-term relationship between object and user. Crafts Council Nederland doesn’t only stand for tradition and preservation of knowledge, but also focuses on innovation of techniques, design, and meaning. It is through this dedication that crafts evolve and are given a new importance. Bernard Heesen Bernard Heesen was trained as an architect, but worked in the glass studio De Oude Horn of his father, Willem Heesen, during his studies. This is where he began experimenting with glass. The coincidence in the production process adds to the shape and expression of Heesen’s products. He is one of the most innovative glass artists in Europe. Révélations At Révélations 2015, Crafts Council Nederland presents four leading Dutch maker-designers, and each represents at least one of these beliefs. Wandschappen The work of Nicole Driessens and Ivo van den Baar from Wandschappen is characterized by constant innovation from technology and materials. The makers manage to implement many different materials such as felt, textiles, paper and epoxy resin. Traditional techniques are used as inspiration and are translated into a new context. The process of the development of a product is just as important as the outcome. Dienke Dekker Dienke Dekker experiments with existing production techniques and innovative materials. Beautiful and surprising products originate from the combination of different crafts. Over the past few years, she intensively studied weaving techniques; she mastered them and applies them to unusual material. The outcomes are intermediate forms of production, which function as autonomous works. Crafts Council Nederland is the allencompassing platform for contemporary craft. It is the place where art, fashion, design and heritage all unite and where craftsmanship is nurtured and passed on to a new generation. As a key unifier, concept developer and initiator, Crafts Council Nederland is building an infrastructure to help preserve and encourage intangible heritage and to make craft techniques future-proof. www.craftscouncil.nl info@craftscouncil.nl In collaboration with Ateliers d’Art.
