Letter from the Executive Director
Tonight is a celebration of APL’s journey – how the school
came to be, the exciting things going on today and our
aspirations for the future.
To think that this all started just four short years ago with four
students and a big dream is incredible to me. Alison Moors
and our three founding families – the Brewers, Gordons and
Mohazzabfars – were determined to create a school that
could effectively educate all types of learners – including
those across the autism spectrum. They believed they had
the right model to change the face of inclusion at the
elementary and middle school levels. Most importantly,
they had the passion, tenacity and vision to turn their dream
into a reality.
I wanted to join the team at APL precisely because of this
vision and the incredible dedication of the founders, staff and
families that were pushing it forward. Creating effective,
inclusive programs at the K-8 level is the critical new frontier
in education and APL has already assumed a leadership role
in this area.
We fundamentally believe that inclusion works – we see it in
action every day at APL. With our individualized curriculum
and focus on character development, we know that all types
of learners – including those across the autism spectrum -can thrive side by side. Success all depends on a strong
community of teachers, parents, a network of leading
professionals and all of you to make it happen.
Our goal is to deliver a truly top notch program and continue
working to scale this model to touch as many deserving

Letter from the APL Board President
Welcome to the 4th annual APL fundraiser. On behalf of the
students, teachers, staff, Board of Directors and families of APL, I
would like to extend a sincere thank you for supporting this most
important event with your time, enthusiasm and generosity.
Over the course of four years many have given their heart to APL.
In 2007, a small group of ambitious and passionate parents
weighed the educational options available for their young children
and without hesitation agreed, "not enough." There was no real
educational opportunity for their special needs children to work
side-by-side in the classroom with typically developing children.
After witnessing the success of Alison Moors’ precision teaching
model, an idea took flight -- create an independent school for
students from kindergarten through middle school that provides a
rigorous academic curriculum individually tailored to each
student’s learning style. The school would promote an inclusive
and positive learning environment. APL would disprove the tired
myth that students of all abilities could not learn and grow
together. And now 4 years later we see that this dream has truly
taken flight.
Most recently, APL has enjoyed an exciting and productive year.
Under the direction and leadership of our new Executive Director
Jennifer Annable, our student enrollment has more than doubled
in size from 1 7 to 43 students! A performing arts enrichment
program has been instituted at APL in partnership with Broadway
Bound -- APL’s first musical production “Grease” will be performed
this spring. A visual and digital arts enrichment program lead by
Seth Zeichner, professor at the Seattle Art Institute and an
animator involved in creating Nickelodeon’s “Blue’s Clues,” has
recently begun. Students are learning still and video photography,
animation, sculpting, painting and drawing. APL recently received
a grant from software developer Adobe to further the program.
And finally, APL in partnership with the University District YMCA

has developed and implemented a physical education program for
all students.
In January, “The Today Show” toured APL and featured our very
own Executive Director Jennifer Annable on “American Story with
Bob Dobson.” After the tour, Bob Dotson commented on how
exceptional he thought APL was. Bob confirmed what we hold to
be true -- all children can learn together and thrive in an inclusive
environment.
We are very proud of what we have accomplished to date – but
we have even bigger dreams for the future. We want to ensure
we maintain the quality of our program, increase our outreach
within the community, build out our technology infrastructure and
continue to innovate in our education programs. We can only do
this in partnership with all of you.
I am honored to be a part of this journey and such a worthy

RULES OF THE AUCTION
Registration: At check-in, you will receive a packet with your bid
number. Keep your number with you! By bidding in the Live or Silent
Auction each bidder agrees to these Auction rules.
Silent Auction: All items in the Silent Auction have a corresponding bid
form. To bid on an item, write your bid number on the bid sheet next to
the preprinted amount of your choice. All Silent Auction items will have a
“Guaranteed Purchase” bid. By signing your bid number in this box, the
bidding on this item closes and the item is now yours. Once you write
you bid number on the bid sheet, do not cross your number out. As each
Silent auction area closes, an Auction representative will circle the
winning number on the bid sheet.
Live Auction : Once the Live Auction begins, it will continue without
intermission until all items have been auctioned. To enter a bid, the
bidder signals either the auctioneer or one of the spotters. Use only the
bid number assigned to you. The auctioneer will determine who the
Successful bidder is. Please hold your bid card so that the number can
be easily seen. The auctioneer acknowledges winners of Live Auction
bids and the purchaser will sign a bid sheet, which will be brought to the
table. This signature will constitute a legal contract to buy. In the event
of any disputes between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final
discretion to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer the item in
dispute. The value set forth for items being auctioned are donors’
estimates and are not warranted by the Auction for general value. All
sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds except where
noted.
Payment: A signature constitutes a legal contract to buy. All sales are
final and there will be no exchanges or refunds unless otherwise
specified. All items must be paid for by evening’s end unless you are
using the Express Checkout system. We accept checks, MasterCard,
and Visa. For items that are jointly purchased by two or more parties,
the signer is the designated payee. Please make your own
arrangements for reimbursement by your co-purchasers.
Express Checkout: Participants who wish to speed up their checkout at
the end of the evening may request Express Checkout when you receive

your package at the beginning of the evening. Participants will be asked
to leave a signed black check or credit card slip.
Time Limit: Unless otherwise stated, use of condominiums, houses,
dinners, cabins, tickets, services, etc., is to take place within one year
following the auction, at a time mutually agreeable to both the winner
and the donor.
Warranties : The APL Auction committee has attempted to catalog to
describe the items and property correctly, but all items and property are
sold “as is.” APL neither warrants nor represents, nor shall in no event be
responsible for the correctness of description, genuineness, authorship,
provenance or condition of property. APL reserves the right to withdraw
any item for sale prior to the call for bids and/or prior to payment
completion and reserves the right to adjust the donor’s estimate of retail
value.
Removal : At the end of the Auction, proceed to Check Out to pick up
your merchandise.
Liability: Each person issued a bid number assumes all risks and
hazards related to the auction. Each bidder agrees to hold APL, its
elected and appointed member and employees, the auctioneer, the
organization, sponsors, and/or volunteers connected with the Auction
harmless from any liability arising therein.
Note: All purchases are tax deductible as provided by law. Please
consult a tax advisor regarding tax law and items purchased at the APL
Auction. APL does not explicitly or implicitly endorse any of the products
