continues to provide 24/7 Emergency
Services, Inpatient Beds, Palliative
Beds, Same Day Surgery, outpatient
clinics, Regional Breast Assessments
and Diagnostic Imaging (CT, Xray,
ultrasound and bone density). Yes,
there have been changes to services
and staff at TMH, but these changes
don’t mean that TMH is closing, or that
it won’t continue to be the Regional
Centre for Ambulatory Care.
Having the right instruments in our
tool box helps us attract and retain
the healthcare professionals we need
at our local hospital. Our Foundation
continues to need your financial support
to provide medical equipment, the
government doesn’t fund. Help us help
you and your loved ones to save lives!

A Year at a Glance

Chair of the TMH Foundation
What a year it has been! We have celebrated many
successes from our Golf Classic last August which
raised over $86,000 to our fall Gala which continues to
defy the odds and raised over $284,000 net.
Through the changes in health care there is one
constant - you. Your support for our Hospital and our
Foundation remains true. Without your financial support we cannot provide
our health care professionals with the equipment they need to provide us with
exemplary health care - be it in the Emergency Department, in-patient unit,
clinics or surgery. This fiscal year, we raised over $1.5 million through sound
money management and fundraising appeals to purchase: ureterscopes,
anesthetic ultrasound, instrumentation for ACL and other orthopedic surgery,
a new ultrasound for diagnostic imaging, pulmonary function system, telemetry
unit, bladder scanner and an ECG machine.
We remain focused on our donors and community to ensure that you have
access to the best health care. This means we continue to support QHC TMH and their equipment needs for 2013/14 as well as look to health care
projects in the community we can support through the Kay Stafford Fund.

Understanding Health Care
IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Community Health Centres
operate as a non-profit under
a volunteer board of directors
with the goal to create healthier
communities and reduce the
pressure on the acute and long
term care health system. They
link individuals and families with
programs and services to address
various health conditions.
Community Care Access
Centre or CCAC is funded
by OHIP, and responsible for
connecting you with the care
you need, at home and in your
community. They can coordinate
the specific care you need to stay
in your own home longer such as:
meal preparation, assistance with

bathing and dressing or you require
the services of a professional such
as a physiotherapist, social worker
or nurse.
Health Link coordinates the
sharing of patient information
between family doctors, hospitals,
home care groups and other
community supports so that
patients will spend less time waiting
for services. It will also give you a
team of health care providers at
all levels of the health care system
that will know your individualized
plan. For patients being discharged
from hospital, the Health Link
will allow for faster follow-up and
referral to services like home care,
helping reduce the likelihood of readmission to hospital.
Was a huge success with over
300 walkers and runners coming
out to show their support for
Trenton Memorial Hospital. It was
a beautiful, sunny day. Dr. Robbie
Iny, Honorary Chair for the event
announced over $18, 600 was
raised for new medical equipment
at the Hospital. Special thanks to
the City of Quinte West and Tri
and Run Sports who organized
this great event.

Inheritance
If you are the last remaining spouse, the RRSP’s/RRIF’s you
leave to your children will be taxed at 50%.
However, if you purchase a “Joint Last to Die” insurance policy naming
your children as beneficiaries and change the beneficiary of your RRSP/
RRIF’s to the TMH Foundation, the end result is: Your Children get the full
value of policy, Your Charity get’s the net of RRSP/RRIFs and the Estate
gets a Tax Receipt for Charitable Donation thus offsetting the tax payable
on the RRSP/RRIF (in effect cancelling each other out). The insurance
proceeds to the children are tax free.

dollars in “stuff” crammed into your
garages, homes, lockers (and who
knows where else) and turn it all
into a donation for a good cause.
