2007 FIM SPEA TRIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTATION Vito Ippolito FIM President In 2007, the Trial World Championship will see its 33rd edition since the first World Championship was held in 1975. During all these years, many Champions have taken part in this competition and have contributed in making it famous. Riders such as Dougie Lampkin and Jordi Tarrès, each with seven titles; Dougie’s father Martin Lampkin who was the very first World Champion; Yrjo Vesterinen, Eddy Lejeune, Thierry Michaud and many others up to the current holder of the world title Adam Raga - all have equally earned their place in the gallery of Champions. The competition of Trial, born as “observed Trials” more than a century ago, is run today at FIM level with riders in different competitions according to their age, and was also the first to be run for women at world level. Competitions for young riders are the FIM Junior Trial World Cup and the Trial Youth Cup for riders between 16 and 18 years. These young riders represent the future of Trial, as they will become the Champions of tomorrow. The Women’s Trial World Championship, which was the first female Series at world level in the motorcycling sport, and the Trial des Nations have more and more participants every year, and much work is invested in training camps to develop this sport by attracting more female participants. Within the world of motorcycling sport, Trial has undergone a particular development, mainly because in essence it is very different from all other motorcycling sports. It is the only one in which the most important factor is not the speed, but the ability and skills of the riders while crossing obstacles. The 2007 season has already started with the Indoor Trial World Championship, which greeted us with fantastic battles between the various competitors, and is enjoying increasing success each year. This year the Trial World Championship is visiting a new venue: Guatemala, a Central American country. It is another overseas venue besides the traditional event in Motegi. It is very important for Trial, and for the motorcycling sport in general, to be present on more continents: the presence of a World Championship round will help the development of the sport and we have to work hard in order to achieve a goal which concerns not only Trial but all our sport: to try to be present on all continents. 2007 FIM SPEA TRIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CALENDAR 2007 INDIVIDUAL TRIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 1 01.04 GP Spain Mancha Real 2 21-22.04 GP Guatemala La Antigua 3 27.05 GP France Senez 4 02-03.06 GP Japan Twin Ring Motegi 5 01.07 GP Italy Erba + European Ch. 6 08.07 GP Poland Myslenice + European Ch. + Women’s W.C. 7 15.07 GP Czech Republic Kramolin 8 29.07 GP Great Britain Hawkstone Park 9 02.09 GP Andorra Sant Julià 10 23.09 GP Belgium Spa-Francorchamps + European Ch. + European Ch. + Women’s W.C.
